4/17/2014 An Interview with the Stars of A Haunted House 2

Marlon Wayans continues to see just how far he can push the limits of comedy while setting a new standard for horror movie parody

films. A Haunted House 2 takes everything that was funny about the first movie and doubles it for the sequel.

The second movie begins where the first one ends creating a good transition between the two films. He does this by adding new key

characters played by comedian Gabriel Iglesias, and actress Jaime Pressly. In addition there are appearances from all the main characters

from the original movie such as “Cousin Ray-Ray” played by Affion Crocket, and Kisha played by Essence Atkins. Wayans was able to

make A Haunted House 2 one of those rare movies that not only delivers as a satisfying sequel but is even better than the first one.

In my interview with him, Wayans said “If I couldn’t make it as funny or funnier than the first one then I didn't feel like doing it, because I

didn’t want to whore out my franchise and I didn’t want to cheat my audience. When you set a certain level of expectations you should

always try to do better or top what you did last."

A Haunted House 2 is a movie that stands on its own and I’m sure it would be an extremely funny movie to anyone who watches it.

However, since it is a parody movie, I would recommend watching the following movies first: A Haunted House, Paranormal activity

2, 3, and 4 The Conjuring, Insidious, Sinister, and The Possession.

“I watch a 100 horror films 100 times in order for me to be able to put this together. People just like to be scared or feel something in a

movie, but to feel scared and have your fear eased with laughter makes it all good.” Wayans said.

The budget for A Haunted House 2 was much lower than your average Hollywood motion picture film. For the first film Wayans said he

used $1.7 million of his own money to fund the film, and made close to $19 million the first week the film was released. A Haunted

House would go on to become a huge success grossing close to $50 million in profits making a sequel almost inevitable at that point.

Surprisingly, the budget for A Haunted House 2 remained close to the same.

Also in the interview was Gabriel Iglesias who said: “Having that pressure of a small budget brings out your creativity, because you have to

be resourceful and you don't always have certain things at your disposal, which makes you constantly think how can we make this funny

without the use of this or that, and I think that makes for a more clever template.”

Iglesias makes the transition from being a standup comic to acting in A Haunted House 2. Iglesias plays the neighbor next door who's not

afraid to trade racial joke after racial joke with Wayans throughout the movie. Between Iglesias, Wayans, Jamie Pressly, and the rest of the

cast there’s not one race A Haunted House 2 doesn’t make fun of. This gives everyone in the audience a unique chance to laugh at

themselves.

A third cast member Affion Crockett said in our interview: “The biggest thing I will take away from working on this project is it’s a

blessing to do what we do.”

Wayans said he is open to the idea of turning the A Haunted Housefranchise into a trilogy, but for right now his focus is solely on

promoting A Haunted House 2.

“If there’s a strong demand from the fans then you can look forward to a third. Once again I’ll go on that journey trying to find that right story

that takes it to a different place, and hopefully we’ll be able to top number two!” Wayans said.

A Haunted House 2 will keep you on edge delivering as both a horror film and a comedy. It will make you jump right before providing you

comedic relief. There’s sex scenes, chicken fights and everything in between, which makes this a must see parody film. Wayans

encourages everyone to tell him their own opinions of the movie regardless if they’re good or bad by tweeting him @MarlonWayans, or by

tweeting the official A Haunted House 2 movie account @AHHMOVIE. You can see A Haunted House 2 in theaters this Easter weekend

on Friday, April 18th.
