PRESS RELEASEMay 21, 2018

Cinderella’s Closet of Monmouth County is pleased to announce the winners of the second Annual Service Scholarship and College Scholarship.

On May 9th, Cinderella’s Closet of Monmouth County awarded Service Scholarships to Juliet Cunningham from Allentown High School and Christine Merges from Middletown High School North. The Service Scholarship is awarded to volunteers who have shown dedication and leadership qualities over many years of service to our organization.

Juliet Cunningham became a volunteer back in September 2014. After attending our annual planning meeting, she helped with our fashion show and boutique. The following year, she also helped by becoming a model for our fashion show and the subsequent years, she became the liaison between the Leo Club at Allentown and our organization. Her main responsibility was to encourage her peers to join us as volunteers for our events. In 2017, she was an MC at our last fashion show and this past year she helped host one of our Senior’s-Senior Proms at a local assisted living facility. She has always been enthusiastic and energetic in everything we have asked her to do. We wish her lots of luck and success in college.

Christine Merges started volunteering with Cinderella’s Closet six years ago when she and her mom came and helped in the jewelry section of the Prom Boutique. Once she started high school, she has participated and helped facilitate each of our events, including the cookie-decorating /wrapping, sorting inventory at our storage facility as well as helping to managing the backstage area at the fashion show. In the last two years, she became the liaison at her high school and this year she coordinated the volunteers and entertainment for the Senior’s-Senior Prom at Arbor Terrace Assisted Living facility in Middletown. She has always answered our many calls for more volunteers or fund raising. We wish her many successes in college.

Juliet and Christine have been great role models for the younger volunteers in our organization and we will miss having them around but hope they will come back for their favorite event, the annual prom boutique.

We have awarded our College Scholarship to Demi Ardic of Keansburg High School. The award in the amount of $1,000.00 is in recognition of your commitment to academic excellence and community service. Demi will be attending Monmouth University in the fall and we wish her all the best. This scholarship is a merit-based scholarship awarded to a school senior who demonstrates strong values, commitment and motivation to pursue a college education. Demi was selected from several applications from around the state of New Jersey.

Cinderella’s Closet was founded in 2007 to help our peers attend prom in style while fostering the ideals of service to the community and academic distinction. It has been our dream to establish a scholarship for student who live by and strive for the values that Cinderella’s Closet promotes so that young adults are given the tools and support needed to carry those values into adulthood, becoming the leaders our world needs.
