THE CHURCH OF THE RESURRECTION-A PARISH OF THE DIOCESE OF GREENSBURG PAGE 2
From Father Jim’s Desk … Things That Cannot Be Explained Have you ever experienced a connection with God that personally and deeply affected you? Perhaps it happened during prayer or you experienced some sort of divine intervention. If it has not happened yet, don’t worry—it will. The truth is there are many ways in which God communicates with us throughout our lives. God is always here calling us forward in faith and guiding us through the storms we encounter. We often cannot explain to others the fullness of the experiences we have had with the divine, and that is the work of the Holy Spirit. The power of the Holy Spirit is undeniable, and the Apostles sure experienced that power on Pentecost. They were scared, hiding, and worried. They weren’t ready to do anything except hide from their fears. They needed to encounter the power of the Holy Spirit. Have you ever felt stuck in your life? Perhaps you are afraid during this unprecedented time or afraid to make tough decisions in daily life. If so, trust in the power of the Holy Spirit. Pray often and know that you are in good company with the Apostles. They too needed help. Upon receiving the Holy Spirit, they accomplished great things! Let us embrace what God has waiting for us by seeking our Lord each day and having the courage to believe! As we celebrate Pentecost it is important to be recharged in our lives. Just like the Apostles, we too need to be reboot-ed from time to time with the energy of the Holy Spirit!
SECOND WAVE: RETURNING TO PUBLIC MASSES!
It is with such great joy that we will be having public Masses available starting June 1, 2020. Our first weekend Masses with be on June 6th/7th. There are a few important guidelines we would like to highlight today in preparation for this wonderful return.
1. The Sunday Mass Obligation remains lifted by Bishop Malesic for the foreseeable future to all the faithful in the Diocese of Greensburg. This means that no one is required to attend Masses. Diocesan Streamed Masses will continue!
2. Masks will be required upon attendance of all Masses. Please bring your own Mask with you. We will have a few extra new Masks at every Site just in case you don’t have one but please be mindful there are only a few.
3. Please respect Social distancing. Seating will be 6 feet apart. Families of the same household may sit to-gether. Ushers will help guide you to seating upon entry.
4. Hand Sanitizer will be places at all entry ways and we ask that you please sanitize upon entry and exit of our Churches.
5. Please refrain from socializing in Church before or after Mass to prevent close gatherings. 6. Singing will be kept to a minimum. 7. Offertory Baskets will be placed in a stationary location and not passed around. 8. At the Sign of Peace, please simply give a wave or other non-touch gesture to those around you. 9. All are encouraged to receive communion in the hand. 10. There will be no greeting after Masses so that all may return to their vehicles without gathering.
As part of our recommencement plan, we, like other parishes, will see a few adjustments to our weekend and daily Mass schedule temporarily. I want to emphasize temporarily for these modifications are only in place to allow our staff to properly abide by all regulations we are required to follow. We will maintain a clean and sanitized environ-ment in all our Church sites!

GOSPEL MEDITATION - Pentecost Sunday
You can feel so small standing by the seashore. The vast-ness of all that is before you expands much farther than your eye can see. What is happening on the other side? As tides continue to ebb and flow, what occurs as they come and go remains largely a mystery and the effects of their presence unknown in your sight. Yet, things are moving and changing as you gaze upon the water, as the thumbprint of their presence is left behind. The greater the wind and wave, the greater the effect. But even a gen-tle breeze leaves its humble mark upon the seashore on which you stand. The smallest pebble still makes a ripple in the great blue expanse of ocean waters. It doesn’t need to be big.
You never know the full impact of your smallest gesture or simplest of words. A yes or no, agree or disagree, here or there, this or that can influence time and history in ways you may never know. The Holy Spirit is like that: fierce and torrential, and then almost still and silent, creating and recreating nonetheless. Coming as a gentle breeze or a gusty wind, God’s Holy Spirit continues to move over, around, and into the waters of our lives. The Spirit brings fruit and unknown possibilities to what we humbly bring with us and that same Spirit eventually brings all to fulfill-ment in Christ.
The first disciples didn’t have much. They possessed sim-ple faith and a willingness to go into unchartered territory with a love of their friend-God, humble offerings, and a knowledge that they were not alone. This allowed them to do amazing things with very little. Do you believe that you are being led and that you have a purposeful life? We often do not realize our value because we do not think that the little we have is good enough. How wrong we are! A little flour mixed with water and embraced by a prayer of blessing transforms simple offerings into the magnificent Eucharistic presence of God. If the Holy Spirit can do such amazing things with these humble gifts of the earth, even more can happen with you. Don’t underestimate the value of the smile you gave a stranger, the door held open for an elderly widow, the listening ear offered to one who was lonely, the tolerance given to the wounded soul who is angry, and the loving shoulder you offered as a cradle under the head of someone in pain. Modest gifts offered with love can be transformed by the Spirit into wondrous blessings you may never know. It’s Pentecost. Trust. You are not alone.
