Notification of Hospitalization Illness or Impending Surgery

Hospitals are required to observe confidentiality and privacy laws and are no longer able to inform parishes of admissions of parishion-ers. It is now necessary for either the patient, him/her self, or a family member to notify the parish of his/her hospitalization. Ar-rangements then can be made for the parish priest to visit the pa-tient. Because of privacy laws we do not publish the names of the sick in our bulletin or announce them at Mass unless the patient or a family member gives us permission to do so. Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be administered upon request prior to a scheduled hospital admission or before any elective surgery. Please call the Parish Office at 973-694-5700. All calls are kept confidential.

A Reflec on From Fr. Ricardo In our day, the beau ful virtue of “tolerance” is con-stantly talked about. Its opposite, “intolerance”, is o en flung in accusa on at poli cal or cultural op-ponents. The opening of today’s Gospel passage shows Jesus being tolerant.

On this occasion Jesus had fixed his face firmly to go to Jerusalem. He knew He was going to His death. He had determined to take the shortest route; the shortcut lay through tradi onal enemy territory – Samaria. The Samaritans made it as diffi-cult as possible for Jews to make the yearly Passo-ver pilgrimage. Jesus’ request for shelter and food was no different. James and John were so outraged that they recommended destruc on of the village by fire. In spite of the refusal of hospitality and the spurning of Jesus’ extended hand of friendship, Je-sus did not deviate from His plan.

In our me of par san zeal and miserable bigotry of all kinds, some good people get the idea that their beliefs and methods are the only correct ideas and methods. The tolerance of Christ is not focused on mistakes, but on persons. Chris an tolerance sees the person with whom we disagree with eyes of love. Tolerance is never indifferent to evil. It is about loving the sinner. It is about fixing our face firmly on Jerusalem, and following Jesus, who died for all - even Samaritans.

What’s Happening in the Parish We encourage all parishioners with access to the web to visit our parish website, www.abvm-wayne.org on a regu-lar basis. On our website you will find our parish calendar of events, which is updated on a regular basis, Religious Education information and schedules, Youth Ministry info, the weekly bulletin, the link for Online Giving, and much more. Also on our website are the Mass Ministry Schedule and the Hospital and Nursing Home Ministry schedules. Again, please visit our website at www.abvm-wayne.org and mark it as a “favorite” so you can easily visit our site every day.
