From the pastor… The Second Sunday in Ordinary Time – God’s grace is always extra-ordinary even during ordinary time. In today’s first reading Isaiah the Prophet declares that the Lord said to him, “You are my servant, through whom I show my glory.” The Prophet goes on to proclaim that “God is now my strength.” God made Isaiah a light to the nations that His salvation may reach to the ends of the earth. Today’s Responsorial Psalm says “Here I am Lord; I come to do your will.” In the 2nd reading, Paul greets the people with “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” Paul tells the Corinthians that we have been sanctified in Christ Jesus and we are called to be holy. John the Baptist testifies that Jesus is indeed the Son of God. During this week of ordinary time, may we get on the band wag-on, along with Isaiah, Paul and John the Baptist, all to glorify God. I recommend you get out your book on the lives of the Saints and look up this week’s feasts on the internet. Monday is in honor of St. Sebastian – a martyr & patron saint of athletes; Tuesday is St. Agnes, Virgin & Martyr; Wednesday we pray for the Legal Pro-tection of Unborn Children; Thursday is the feast of St. Vincent, Deacon & Martyr; Friday is in honor of St. Francis de Sales, Bish-op & Doctor of the Church; and on Saturday we commemorate the Conversion of St. Paul the Apostle. Next Sunday’s Readings will be: Isaiah 8:23 - 9:3; 1 Cor.1:10-13,17; Mt. 4: 12-23. The Knights of Columbus will be selling raffle tickets after the Masses next weekend. 1st prize - $5000, 2nd prize - $4000, 3rd & 4th prizes - $500 each, 5th & 6th prizes - $400 each, 7th prize - $200. Tickets are $5 and the drawing is May 2nd, 2020. For tax purposes – a report of parishioner’s 2019 contributions to the Church will be sent out in the next day or two. If there are any questions or errors, please feel free to call Paula at the office, so that any necessary corrections can be made. The Wall of Acknowledgment is one of the finishing touches needed in our new Social Hall. We hope to place names of those who were generous, supportive and made this parochial gathering space a reality. Personally I am so grateful to Al-mighty God for the good people of this parish. The pr iest-hood is not easy. A couple weeks ago, a priest from the Dio-cese of Charlotte took his own life in Swannanoa, near Ashe-ville. I regret, that like every other parish, we have a few dis-gruntled parishioners here, who are very vocal. The Book of Sirach says “and your friends will be like yourself.” You, as parents and we pastors would like to please everyone – but not even Jesus could not do that. Occasionally your chil-dren and some parishioners, know better than those in authority. God forbid those with serious responsibility and the corre-sponding authority should use that vulgar word “no”. For par-ents and pastors alike, it is important to accept and acknowledge that we are not perfect, yet God calls us to our vocations. We must remember that Jesus is the Savior, and not us. Matthew 11:18 says “John appeared neither eating nor drinking, and people say, He is mad! The Son of Man appeared eating and drinking and they say, this one is a glutton and drunkard, a lover of tax collectors and those outside the law! Yet time will prove where wisdom lies.” These are your pas-tor’s thoughts, so that I don’t find myself discouraged or brought to despair. We’ve got to accent the positive and be grateful to God and to those he sends are way, who truly are Christ like. To those who are so kind and supportive – I thank you & thank God for you. Let us do everything for the honor and glory of God. Lets’ continue to pray for each other.
