SIMPLE LIFE STARTS FROM THE KITCHEN

C O N C E P T

The goal of this project is to create a better experience for the user during the prepara-

tion of food ingredients in the kitchen. By using this kitchen sink system we can cook

food more efficiently, well organized, and feel the joy instead of suffering from disor-

ders and terrible messes. This design simplifies the procedures that people need to do

for preparing food in conventional way. Users can easily cut, transport, and clean the

ingredients with ease because it can be done in the same space of the sink. Also, the

specially designed container can be also stacked along the rim of the cutting board. The

food will never spread off the cutting board and the stacking containers can save much

space at the same time.

P R O B L E M

There are three different stages when we cook in the kitchen, preparing food ingredients, cook-

ing, and cleaning. However, we spend over 1/2 cooking time on preparing food. There are

many different tasks and tools are involved during the preparing process. It makes people feel

difficult and stressful.

Here are some interesting facts when we look into the preparing processes step by

step. We always repeat some certain actions again and again when we are in kitchen

such as washing food, transporting food into containers and cleaning cutting board…

etc. These repeated actions lengthen the time of the whole process and bring out

another issue is how to maintain the cleanness of environment while preparing food.

We always mess up the kitchen when preparing food: different sizes of containers and

tools everywhere; water accidentally splash on the counter top or fl oor and those make

the kitchen looks like battlefi eld everyday.

If we can reduce the repeated actions and draw the connection between each action to

simplify the workfl ow, we will work more effi ciently and have more pleased experience

when we are preparing food ingredients.

Can we increase the space around the sink ?

First, I develop my ideas around the sink area. During the preparing process, we have to

wash food, clean tools or containers frequently. Therefore, developing concepts around

sink area has rich opportunities to reduce steps.

How to organize the containers and make them easier to access?

It always makes people frustrated to see unorganized containers scattered around the working area. The

problem could be solved by two approaches. First, it could be improved with easy-to-access placement of

the containers. Secondly, if we can provide space where we can store and organize the containers at the

same time, it will accelerate the working speed by reducing the distance to reach all the items we need.

How can I arrange a smooth workfl ow for preparing food with the sink integrated with the most frequently?

Through breaking down all the steps in the procedure of preparing foods and analyzing the connection be-

tween each step, it can make me be clear about fi nding out the unnecessary movements. Then, I can draw

a plan to rearrange the workfl ow and relocate the tools in the sink area objectively.

This kitchen sink system contains several creative attributes that improve the expe-

rience of cooking. As I mentioned earlier, we always repeat some certain actions

while preparing food. Therefore, if we can reduce the repeated actions and draw

the connection between each action to simplify the workflow, we will work more

efficiently and have more pleased experience when preparing food ingredients.

First of all, I developed my ideas around the sink area is to reduce steps as we

wash food and clean tools or containers frequently during the preparing process.

In order to eliminate the unnecessary movements, I break down all the steps in the

procedure of preparing foods and analysing the connection between each step.

Then, I can draw a plan to rearrange the workflow and relocate the tools in the sink

area objectively. Therefore, sink allows users to work mainly on the top of it and to

use the space effectively.

The colander / container set and cutting board can be placed in A, B or C position.

This provides the fl exibility for users to arrange everything in the working area.

The specially designed container can be also stacked along the rim of the cutting board.

With the new solution, the food will never spread off the cutting board and the stacking

containers can save much space at the same time.

In order to cover different function areas, I place the

faucet in the center of the sink which is unconventional

location where it always sit at the back.

R i n s e & C o l a n d e r a r e a /

We can put the ingredients in the colander set for the

food preparation. We can use the this for containing

the ingredient in large volume. The pores in the bottom

of the container allow we dry the food after the rinse,

such as spaghetti and salad.

C o m p o s t & D r a i n i n g a r e a /

User can adjust the placement of the compost container

according to their demand. Also, they can use this area

as the temporary dishes placement to drain the dishes.

C O N C E P T

DESKCO is the table and chair set designed for the public library space. There are many

different activities take place in the library such as reading, meeting or using laptop…

etc. DESKCO can be functioned for different purposes by simply rotation. It’s also able

to create the small meeting space for group of people.

Nowadays, with the development of technology, people’s

working space is no longer limited in the originally defined

ones. By using the laptop or smart phone, people can

choose wherever they want to do their works. Therefore,

we can find there are different activities might happen in

the public place at the same time, such as reading, talking,

using laptop or meeting. In order to deal with this change,

some articles of furniture plays the most important role to

make the space can be used in different purposes.

In the public indoor space such as library, people like to do their

works without being disturbed by others. In this kind of indoor

space, we may encounter some different problems and one of

the most important problems is how to provide people or groups

a space to work well and feel comfortable with each other. This

furniture system, DESKCO, is adjustable and easy to create indi-

vidual meeting space by simple drag and rotation.

The concept of this bedside lamp is developed base on the brand I’ve chosen ±0. I de-

veloped my concepts according to the brand’s philosophy, target market, competitor,

materials and design language I’ve research. One of this the most important idea of ±0 is

how to design the product that can be used intuitively. Therefore, the idea of this bed-

side lamp is try to lead users to use it in the intuitive way.

±0 believes that designing things that coexist together is nat-

ural. It’s not just about matching colors or shapes; it’s about

designing the harmony between these devices and life.

A shape that is “just right”

They create shapes that can be used for a long time, that,

while loosely following the trends or the lifestyle of the time,

are not swayed too much by fashion.

A size that is “just right”

Things are on the small size. They seek that feeling of com-

fort that comes from returning to an appropriate size from

thoughts of being too greedy in terms of size.

A price that is “just right”

They aim for prices that are affordable, the kinds of prices

that are within your reach at the time you want an item.

As their name suggests, ±0 products seek to be at the center

of the vacillations in people’s preferences. They seek to be in

the middle of people’s confl icting desires, to be the happy

medium.

Stylish: Minimalism

Color tones: Achromatic colors

Functional: Without too many buttons and interface.

Material: Plastics with mirror polish painting

Many people like to read books on the bed before sleep. We turn

on the bedside lamp for reading and turn it off when we ready to

sleep every day. This design used the different way to turn on

and off the light by using the action we place the book instead

of fi nding the switch to turn it on and off. Therefore, we can use

the bedside lamp more intuitive without any additional action to

operate it.

C O N C E P T

In this design, pop art is added to the design elements because the bright colors and repeated

combination are widely applied in pop art, which coheres with the essence of this design.

Making use of the features of LED, such as small volume and low temperature, I place LED under

the acrylic board shaped like a puzzle. By pressing the board itself, the light shot and with the

use of LED, different colors are produced so that by combining we can transform them into the

images or words that we want.

In the busy society, how to relieve pressure is an important issue. Taking a shower is one

of the most useful ways to get rid of stress. As we know, taking a shower does not only

clean the body but also symbolize of the purifi cation of soul. Therefore, taking a shower

is kind of enjoyment; modern people put more and more emphasis on material and

spiritual lives; as a result, home SPA is the future trend for the bathroom equipment.

In the childhood, the building block is the start to inspire children’s potential and creativity. Combining the idea of the building block and LED, I create the new building block, LED LeGong. By day, the creative building block is resembled as the fantasy world belonging to children; by night, the building block becomes the colorful night light which ac-companies them into sleep.
