EXALTED RULER MESSAGE

Thank you for electing me as your Exalted Ruler, which gave me the opportunity to attend the 155th Grand Lodge Session. I wish you all could have met me in St. Louis, what an experience! I didn’t meet all 8000 Elks in attendance, but I was able to put a dent in that endeavor. A lot of information was presented, and I will inform the Lodge officers and committee chairpersons what is expected and required of them.

Remember, Lodge business belongs in the Lodge room or committee meetings not in the Club Room.

Lodge meeting are open to every member. Please attend as many meetings as you can. Officers and committee persons will address any concerns you may have, and we would like your input. Our Lodge is guided by our members. Officers and committee people are voices for our members.

Our Lodge will be looking for a few new Lodge officers and committee people for the 2020 - 2021 Elk year, so please get involved now so you will know what is expected of you in these positions.

As a reminder, the sign at our entrance which states, "1st time - Guest, 2nd time - Friend, 3rd time - Member", is only a suggestion. It is not a statute or house rule. Our statutes require we encourage anyone and everyone to become a member. But guests and family members are always welcome at our Lodge as guests and should be treated as such. Be proud of your membership and lead by example, by showing love and compassion. Our Lodge will grow and prosper. We are the “BEST LODGE IN THE STATE".

Look for the Exalted Ruler's Trivia question in this month’s newsletter. June's ER Trivia winner was John Buza!

My motto this year is: Remember your obligation

and always be humble and kind

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MESSAGE

Hope everyone is having a great summer.

We have completed the work on the pavilion.

The work on the grill area is coming along very nicely; it is a work in progress and will be a very nice addition when we are finished.

We have a lot of great events coming up this summer and I hope everyone can attend. I will keep you posted as we move along with our different projects.

A special thanks to Bob Matteson and Ike Thygerson for all their help.

Lance Wright, Chair

NEWS FROM THE HOUSE COMMITTEE

Hi, I’m your new House Committee

Chairman; I would like to thank Leo for his service. I’m sure he’s enjoying his travels. In the past, I have served as a member of the House Committee several times and Chairman twice. I hope to continue improving the Club for all members.

Back to business. A recent question asked was, who can sign guests into the Lodge? Answer: Only Local Elk Lodge Members can sign in guests. Associate Members, Widows and LOE can’t sign guests into the Lodge.

Safety concerns and appearance: The House Committee is looking into replacing Chairs and Bar Stools in the Club Room. Chairs are over 30 Yrs. old and Bar Stools are approximately 20 Yrs. old. It would also be nice to replace tables.

All Lodge Members are invited to attend House Committee Meetings on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month, 6 PM at the Lodge.

Remember that Elks Membership Cards are required to be in your possession when you are at the Lodge. Be proud to show it.

Watch for flyers for food on Sundays. Check Events Calendar for activities, your participation is what makes a great Lodge.

Garry Gauthier, House Committee

Chairman

From the Membership Committee;

We would like to address an issue concerning membership. Our Lodge issues a membership card to those persons who pay $123.00 per year in dues. This

enables these members to vote on Lodge issues, sign in quests and have a say on how this Lodge is operated. Those persons who possess an identification card (ie), spouse, widow and associate member, as per Grand Lodge Statute 14.140 and the House Rules of Dixie Elks Lodge #1743, dated January 24,2017 - are not entitled to sign in guests or vote on Lodge issues.

An identification card is not a membership card. For those who possess an identification card and wish to bring in guests for a special event, you are required to submit a special event request form. This can be done by submitting said request to the Lodge Event Coordinator who will then present it to the House Committee for consideration. If you have not taken the Elks obligation at one of our Initiations, you are not yet an Elk. Applications for membership are located around the Lodge. Please fill one out completely and submit it for consideration.

We have many individuals who have helped our Lodge in all of our endeavors, we thank you for your efforts and support. Please adhere to our statutes and our by-laws. We as Elks are required by our Grand Lodge Statutes to do so, and as guests you are also required to adhere to our laws and are subject to the standards that we as Elks hold sacred. If you know of a delinquent member, please encourage them to pay their dues. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

ENF Corner Hi All.

Elks National Foundation (ENF) debuted another Grant offering for Lodges. This one is for $2,000 and is to shine a light on two important issues, Family Literacy and Homelessness Among our Nation’s Veterans. These issues face nearly every community, including ours. You can find more information about the new “Spotlight Grant” at Spotlight Grant Tool kit.

Here is an early “Hold The Date”. On Saturday, October 5, ENF will hold their annual fundraiser. This year we are going to have a western theme dinner and dance. More info to follow as we get closer.

We are also having our “Adopt A Purple Pig” contest. This is an easy way to donate, and you can win a great prize by having the heaviest Purple Pig.

Our donations are a little low this year, and if you are looking for a good 501-C3 to donate to, consider ENF. The Foundation gives us our Grants, many of our Scholarships, all our Drug Awareness Materials and all ENF Materials. Remember, you pick where you want your donations to go, i.e.: Veterans, Scholarships, Hoop Shoot, drug Awareness and so on.

Thank you to all whom support this wonderful organization. Donate online at Elks.org/donate. It only takes a couple of minutes and your donation goes right to work. Plus, it all comes back to our communities.

Judy Gauthier

Happy 4th of July to all July is a month for lots of fireworks and

noise. Please remember this is a very bad time for some of our veterans, especially with PTSD. The noise also scares our pets.

Thank you to all those people that attended our auction and a big thank you to the Veterans Committee for all their help. A big shout out to the Jr. ROTC for all their help, they are a bunch of great kids. Anyone wanting to attend the monthly Birthday Bash at the Ivins Veterans Home on the last Tuesday of every month you are more than welcome to join us, we start at 3:30.

Our Veterans get very excited when they get visitors. Thank you to all the LOE who donated such nice items to our veterans they were so grateful many cried.

Hope everyone has a great 4th and Pioneer Day.

Just because we are not meeting in July & August doesn’t mean we are not busy. In June we gave away some of the money we earned last year. Past President Maxine Thurston Gave checks to the following organizations: The Girl Scout Troop, The Children’s Museum, Cherish Families, and XP Foundation. Each recipient gave a short

talk about what they represented. We held the annual Father’s Day Breakfast to honor Dads. Thanks Virginia Hansen and crew for the yummy bagged omelets. Don’t laugh until you try one. The last meeting was a repeat of last year’s potluck, accessory sale, and grab bag. According to Chairman Kaye Petersen: "An evening

of tastings from around the world is planned July 27 at 6pm. Members, friends, and family are invited to Cruise with us from the Pacific to the Atlantic. On Shore cuisines

to sample are Mexican, Hawaiian, Japanese, Italian, French, Norwegian, and Jamaican. We will have a special sample of Christmas in July too. A table of delectable desserts will finish the evening. Tickets for On Shore tastings are six for $10 and additional or repeats $1.50. Raffle drawings for basket from each country will top off the charity

event. Thanks to all the LOE that are donating food and decor for this event! Mark your calendar."

Just a reminder that the Bewitching Brunch is coming on October 19. There are only 125 tickets and they go fast. Start decorating those brooms now. More details later.

Jan Frisbey, Reporter [email protected] 813-690-1516.

The Dixie Ladies of Elks

Big THANK YOU to all who helped me put on another annual successful Father's Day Breakfast.

We fed about 60 people. The weather was just right and I think everyone had a great time. I want to mention the people who help me organize this event: Randy Benson, Jerry

Stout, Walmart, Lance Wright, these people helped with the food and setup. Thank you Louie Benson, Gennie BD, Donna MacBean, Anita Jodon who donated food and helped serve. Thank you to Eyvon for taking the money and to my daughter Jennifer and my grandson Quaid who also helped me out.

Hope the fathers enjoyed the meal. Thanks for your support.

Loyal Bears Needed!

The Dixie Medical Center is getting low on huggable bears.

These lovable bears are a great comfort to children facing scary situations at the hospital, but they are almost gone.

And you are the solution! You can purchase new bears anywhere you shop, and place them in the donation box at the Lodge across from the main dining room doors. Please donate as many bears as you

would like so they can be on their way to comfort and calm frightened children at the Dixie Medical Center.
