Exalted Ruler’s Message
Wow-summer is finally here; and we are in full swing with
all of our summer Lodge activities.
Our funnel cake making at this year’s Tea Party Festival
was a success with 1,140 cakes made. The support from
the Lodge members was great with about 40 members
participating and getting those funnel cakes out to the
customers. We will be hitting the road soon with more
funnel cake making at the 4H Fair in Tolchester July 21,22, and 23rd. We will need lots of help to
cover those 3 days and nights.
June 16th our Lodge hosted a fishing trip for Vets from Perry Point hospital. Everyone involved
exhibited the true spirit of what the Elks are all about. The 10 Vets had an amazing day; and all 3
boats limited out. The 3 hosting captains were: Chuckie Price, Lenny Fletcher, and Kenny Fletcher.
I hope you were fortunate enough to speak with our guests while they spent some time and had
dinner at the Lodge. The entire trip was made possible by a Freedom grant which the Lodge
applied for and received.
The grants the Lodge receives to do things such as this for our Vets, children and community are
made possible by your donation to the Elks National Foundation (ENF). Let this be a reminder of
how important it is for EACH one of us to give to ENF. Only 180 of these grants out of 500 applica-
tions were awarded; and OUR Lodge was one of those recipients. If you want to learn more about
ENF just ask myself or Chairperson Diane Wadkovsky, or log on the Elks website, or better yet
come join the ENF committee; and get involved in planning another one of these events.
Please plan to attend the Charitable Donations Ceremony on August 2. The majority of the dona-
tions that will be presented to local charities are from slot machine proceeds throughout the year.
Three of the donations will be from ENF Grants.
Mark your calendar for the Elks Golf Tournament on Friday August 5th. My husband Tommy calls
the Elks tournament “the 5th Major”. If you don’t play golf, just come out and join us for lunch and
get in on the auction. Billy Meekins is working hard to put together a great day of gold and fellow-
ship.
Twelve members from our Lodge recently attended the State convention in Timonium.
Connie de Young of Dover Lodge is the new DE MD DC State Association President for the coming
year. Her motto is Membership, Fellowship, Success. I think we are on the right track. We have
added 14 new members so far and have no problem in the good fellowship department. I guess
that leads to….SUCCESS. Each lodge member makes it a success. Come out and join us soon!
The motto of the station of the Exalted Ruler is FIDELITY– faithfulness to a person, cause, or belief,
demonstrated by continuing loyalty and support.
Your Exalted Ruler,
Donna Moloney

Memorial Service
Chestertown Lodge #2474 was proudly represented by three of its members, David Reihl, Dr. John Arrabal and Robert
Raleigh at the Memorial Service of the 95th Annual Convention for the DE MD and DC Association.
David Reihl and Robert Raleigh (both Past District Deputy Grand Exalted Rulers) had the honor of lighting a candle for
each name that was called in the ceremony that commemorated departed members of each Lodge in the State Asso-
ciation. The lighted candles in four tiers on each side of the altar were a very impressive and touching sight to behold
after the last name was called. What an honor for Chestertown to have two of its members participate in this ceremo-
ny to remember our departed.
Dr. John Arrabal recited the Thanatopsis by William C. Bryant. The poem describes in several long stanzas the rela-
tionship of life and death to nature. Kudos to “Doc” for his recital of the entire poem from memory.
David Reihl, Dr. John Arrabal, Robert Raleigh
Jackie Phillips was installed as DE MD DC State Association Treasurer
on Sunday, June 12. We are proud to say that Jackie is a member of
Chestertown Lodge #2474.
A brief summary of the duties of the State Association Treasurer include
receiving all monies from the State Association Secretary, paying the
bills of the Association and Camp Barrett, acting as Treasurer for all
committees, maintaining accurate records and filing written reports and
statements. The State Association includes five districts and
38 Lodges.
Anyone who is familiar with the precise and accurate manner in which
Jackie fulfills her obligations as the Treasurer for Chestertown Lodge is
not surprised that she was asked to take on the immense responsibility
of Treasurer of the State Association. Please convey congratulations to
Jackie and wish her well in her new position.
