FROM THE PASTOR

THE FORCE – is with us once again as the latest installment in the Star

Wars series has come into our world.

SPEAKING OF FORCE – I heard someone say, “The Grand Canyon is

happening! The Grand Canyon ain’t done yet.” Heck, people keep finding

fish fossils on mountain tops and all this got me reflecting on the force at

work not only in nature but also in the cosmos.

The universe we are able to observe is about 15 billion years old. If the 4.6 billion years of the

Earth’s existence were expressed by way of the 12 hours on the face of a clock, then....

the first 2 hours and 51 minutes would be obscure;

at 2:52 the first rocks would appear;

at 4:00 the first life forms (bacteria & algae) would appear;

at 10:30 the first invertebrate life forms would appear in the seas;

at 11:25 dinosaurs would wander the land;

at 11:50 the dinosaurs would be extinct, and birds and mammals

would appear;

at 11:59:30 hominids would appear;

the last tenth of a second would cover the entire history of human

civilization on earth.

FORCES SCHMORCES - What does it all mean? Is there any sense or purpose or

goal for all this movement, for all of these “happenings”?

THE FORCE HAS A FACE – Today we are celebrating not only that the Force that creates

and sustains the universe is at work, but that this Force has a Face

and a Name. This Person is not the Last Jedi but Jesus the last

Messiah: THE MESSIAH who has been sent into creation to do

God’s will on earth as God’s will is done in heaven. In doing God’s will

the Messiah has established God’s Kingdom in its finality. Now He

invites us to share in His mission of establishing God’s Kingdom in its fullness when at the end

of time He will be “all in all” and there will be a new heaven and a new earth.

We are happy that you have chosen to

worship with us this Christmas.

Father Heim, Father Ellis, Deacon Giblin, Deacon Szewczak, Sister Marie Rose Gibson, RSM

and I wish a “Merry Christmas” to each parishioner and to our visitors. We pray that each of

us will be able to receive the Grace God wants to give us as we celebrate the birth of Jesus,

the Christ of God.

A SEASON & A SERIES

In our culture we have to work to remember that Christmas is a SEASON offering us this year

15 days to take in and to be taken up into the Mystery of the Incarnation.

CHRISTMAS OCTAVE

The initial eight days (octave) of the Christmas Season are especially solemn and grace-filled.

We’ll be marking the difference of these days by celebrating daily Mass in a different location

(Chapel) with a different schedule (9:00 AM) from December 26 through December 31. We

hope you can join us in exploring the Christmas Mystery more deeply and devoutly through

participation in daily Mass.

OFFICE CLOSED – Our Parish Business Office will be closed this Monday

and Tuesday December 25 and 26 and Monday, January 1. If you need a

priest, please phone the Parish Office and the pastor will get back to you as

he is able.

NO CONFESSIONS – Next Saturday, December 30.

May you have the spirit of Christmas which is Peace, the gladness of Christmas which is Hope, and the Heart of

Christmas which is Love. St. Ann Parish Staff

If you are already a member of

another church or parish, please take the

greetings of the people of St. Ann’s back

As we celebrate this great day of Salvation, we are reminded that many of our loved ones share in that unending joy of heaven—the reason for the birth of Jesus. Born into our humanity, he needed to eat, sleep, learn, laugh, weep and die. And though he shared our limits and vulnerabilities, he was not confined by them. Fully human and fully divine, he thus transfigured our bodies and spirits into so much more. This is the message embedded deep within the joy of the

Christmas birth. As we are fully engaged in our present lives, we are reminded that Christ’s birth is about dying into the joy of eternal beauty. For those who have lost loved ones we know this to be true—a painful truth at this time of year. And for people of faith, we know it to be our Christmas hope.

The “Little Blue Book” is filled with the wisdom of dreams. The message for December 13 reads: “The Christmas season is not a time of unmixed joy. There is also sadness, pain. It will be lonely for those who have just lost someone….I don’t have to resist the mixture. It’s already there in the feast itself.” And on Christmas, it speaks of memories of our loved ones. Cherish whatever memories may surface. Hold them close to your heart; drift into a dream about them. Grant them entrance; they are already with you. Allow the mix of tears and laughter to flow. It is healing. May you experience their presence as a Christmas gift to you.

“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him… announcing salvation.” Is. 52: 7-10
