MS Excel & SPSS is perhaps the most impor-tant computer software programmes used in the area of research today and that is the reason so many prospective research scholars are re-quired to learn how to effectively use them in order to enter or remain in the workplace.

From the viewpoint of the research, particu-larly those in the field of education, the use of MS Excel & SPSS as an end-user computing tool is essential. From the viewpoint of the employer, particu-larly those in the field of information systems, the use of MS Excel & SPSS as an end-user computing tool is essential. Not only are many business professionals using Excel to perform everyday functional tasks in the workplace, an increasing number of employers rely on them for decision support.

Today, end-users employ MS Excel to create and modify spreadsheets as well as to author web pages with links and complex formatting specifications. They create macros and scripts. While some of these programmes are small, one-shot calculations, many are much more critical and affect significant financial deci-sions and business transactions.Widely used by businesses, service agencies, volunteer groups, private sector organizations, scientists, students, educators, trainers, re-searchers, journalists, accountants and others, MS Excel & SPSS has become a staple of end-users and business professionals. The magnificence of Excel & SPSS is that each they can be used as a receiver of workplace or business data, or as a calculator, a decision support tool, a data converter or even a display spreadsheet for information interpretation. MS Excel can create a chart or graph, operate in conjunction with Mail Merge functions, import data from the Internet, create a concept map and sequentially rank information by importance.

This 3-day workshop, focusing on a practical approach and on-hand working on computers, will be conducted in a low-stress informal en-vironment with easy step-by-step guidance and training in solving business and managerial problems using MS Excel & SPSS (originally, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences).

Mr.M.M.ShankarA commerce graduate and MBA from Univer-sity of Madras and has been working as a fac-ulty in MBA Programme for the past 9 years & as a consultant for last 3 years. His areas of interest include Research, Marketing Research and IT and has also presented articles in Na-tional Joumals. Mr.Shankar regularly provides training programme in SPSS for both Research Communities and Corporate members.

The course is introductory (not elementary) and non-technical. Some familiarity with the computer is helpful but not essential. The tar-get audience include academicians.
