• We allocate treasure to worship by paying our clergy, Director of Music ministry, section leaders and other musicians, keeping our pianos and organ in tune, buying music and supporting the work of the altar guild.

• Our worship is supported by many at CCPVW. Our clergy, choir, altar guild, ushers, acolytes, and lay Eucharistic ministers, prayer writers and leaders contribute thousands of hours annually to our worship.

• A vibrant church community must feed the hunger for knowledge of God in Christ found in all ages and stages of the faith journey. At Christ Church education begins at birth and never ends. We welcome people of all ages into our worship and our communion.

• We offer the following programs: First step group: ages 0-4, Godly Play: ages 5-9, Say What?: ages 10-14, Faith Full Families: all ages, Tadpole Playgroup: Ages 0-3, A Time Apart: Parenting Group, Children’s Choir

• Twelve members of our Parish (12 adults, 3 youth) were prepared for Confirmation in 2011.

• Adult education in 2011 has featured such topics as Islam and Christianity, The Gospel of Mark, The Book of Genesis, Life Cycles: Adult Christian Formation, conducted by David Riggs, as well as our Lenten Weekly Programs, conducted by Fr. Rick Fabian.

• The goal of education at CCPVW is to help adults and children know God and know about God, in order to transform their lives and the life of our community.

• Through the pastoral care provided at Christ Church we live out our calling to serve others in Christ’s, name within our own community. Our clergy and trained parishioners provide pastoral support by tending to the sick and dying, the suffering and the bereaved– within our parish and at Stanford Hospital. Led by our Deacons and pastoral care teams, we pray for the sick and provide practical support in the form of meals, transportation, cards, telephone calls and visits.

• We are blessed with beautiful buildings in which we gather for worship, celebration and meetings. Our facility also provides a community service by housing Carillon Preschool, used by 50 families in our region. Keeping our facility safe and sound is a challenge, but also a privilege and a duty that we owe to those who will grow up and be nurtured here.

• Much of the care of our facility requires the services of professionals. Last year we were able to replace the office and library roof and install solar panels and skylights. We repaired the kitchen dishwasher to help us minimize the use of disposable cups – relying on our china mugs for coffee hour. We also contract with grounds keeping and cleaning services, to keep the school, church and campus areas beautiful.

• Under the direction of our junior warden and volunteers, we schedule two parish work days each year, where parishioners with varying degrees of expertise all find something useful to do to enhance our shared space. We wash windows, clean out cupboards, paint and do small carpentry jobs. In addition, a long-range site plan was put in place this year. We are also fortunate to have a few volunteer gardeners who plant, water and care for our beautiful plantings.

• As every coffee hour and every Summer Sunday breakfast prove, we have a good time together. Parish Community can be seen as all those times we get together to enjoy our friends and reach out to newcomers, with no other agenda in mind. Our community events in 2011 have included the parish retreat at the Bishop’s Ranch in Healdsburg, an Outdoor Fall Kick-off Service and Picnic this past September, the Bishop’s Visitation & Confirmation Service in April, the annual All Saints’ Choral Requiem, our Christmas Banquet, Faithful Families Movie Night, The Victorian Tea for mothers and daughters, An Evening in Tuscany Fundraiser for Mission Ministry, Our Senior Recognition and Appreciation Luncheon, and many more fellowship events. In sharing our lives in this way we truly journey together in faith.

• We enable parish life by paying a parish administrator, buying office supplies, keeping the lights on, supporting the parish retreats & events, buying coffee and other supplies for coffee hour, mailing the Carillon Newsletter to those without email, buying archiving supplies and underwriting some of our social events.

• Our time goes to writing and editing the weekly This Week Newsletter & seasonal Carillon publications, planning the Bishop’s Ranch parish retreat, and every Sunday’s coffee hour, as well as all of our youth and Carillon Preschool events. It includes the work of the vestry, the treasurer, and the committee that works tirelessly to put together the Evening in Tuscany and Christmas Banquet events.

• We look beyond our walls to the needs of the greater world as we strive to live out our mission to serve others in Christ’s name. Our Mission and Ministry Committee has kept us focused on the Millennial Development Goals, while our Care of Creation Committee has brought an awareness of our carbon footprint to the forefront of our thinking and planning. For four years we have researched and worked to bring solar energy to the parish and school – something that happened this past year! We have sent thousands of dollars to our five Outreach recipient charities, both near and far. We have not forgotten the unfortunate close to us. Each year our volunteers throughout the parish feed the hungry through the coordinated efforts of Ruthanne Wrucke, Penny McCulloch and the InnVision team at Covenant Presbyterian.. We also support the work of our peninsula deanery and the diocese of California.

• We support our deanery and diocese through our annual assessment, currently $61,000. We donated $20,000 of our Evening in Tuscany proceeds to five worthy causes researched by our Outreach Committee that alleviate suffering throughout the world.

• Our Mission & Ministry and Care of Creation Committees are the main conduits of our ministry to the wider church and world. They guide our outreach spending, regularly provide breakfast and lunch to the homeless and bring green ideas to our church. Members of our parish work for our deanery and attend diocesan conventions. Our Rector, Director of Music Ministries, our Deacon and Clergy Volunteers serve on several diocesan committees and task-forces, to reach out in your name.

• Increase pledges by $60,000 (20%) • In 2012, we estimate that our expenses will increase by about $28,000.

This increase is due to a mandated cost of living increase in salaries of 2.4% for our staff (except for the Rector, whose compensation remains unchanged since 2010), and an expected increase in health care premiums, an increase of $15,000 for responsibilities added to our Youth & Family Ministries Director.

• Additionally, 2011 Income is expected to be approximately $32,000 short. • Our real-world need is a 20% increase in income for a balanced budget.

We are therefore requesting that every member of the parish increase his or her pledge.

• Some families have caught the vision and are increasing their pledge by 20%. Our vestry members have set this goal for ourselves and we are well on the way to achieving it. We know, of course, that these are tough times to ask people for more. Our hope is that in times such as these we will all become more aware of the blessings of our lives and that prominent among them are the blessings brought to us by this church. 19

As we are thinking about the future, please consider what we could do with more resources. • Overhaul the Carillon and make it digitally compatible. • Build a multi-purpose building to ease crowding for Sunday

School and preschool. • Add remaining carillon bells to complete it’s possible range. • Fund the site-plan for the church grounds and gardens • Buy a piano for the nave (current Steinway Grand is on loan

to us for 4 years) • Bring more guest speakers to Lenten and adult education

programs. • Increase our direct outreach budget. • Improve the Choir Room by upgrading storage, etc.
