RECTORS REFLECTIONS
Later on this month we will have
an opportunity to give thanks for
the many ways in which God has
blessed us. When we look back
on the past year, we may
discover that even in challenging
times there were moments of
blessing. The memories will be
different for each one of us: the
birth of a child, the smile from a
loved one with dementia,
recovery from an illness, a new
job, re-connecting with an old
friend, a great book you just
discovered, a meal so good that
you can still taste it, etc. During
the next few weeks, I invite you to
take some quiet time to reflect
and then thank God before the
festivities of Thanksgiving Day
arrive and the various blessings
we have received are lost in the
shuffle.
In December, out of gratitude to
God who gave His Son, we have
multiple opportunities to offer
thanks in tangible ways. We are
invited to give gifts of our time,
our talents and our treasure. In
this newsletter we offer some
opportunities to give of yourself.
Please do not feel obligated to
respond to every opportunity.
Choose the one or ones that you
feel most drawn to. Perhaps you
want to help provide a water
purifier for a family in the
Dominican Republic or
medications for people who lack
even the most basic healthcare.
Perhaps you want to fill a
shoebox with gifts for a child
somewhere across the world. You
may want to give of your time to
wrap a gift basket to be given to
someone in our community.
Maybe the gift that suits you best
is to rake the leaves of an elderly
neighbor. Our response to any of
these opportunities is a tangible
expression of our gratitude.
On All Saints Sunday we hung abanner to remind us to fellow
Christians in Syria and other parts
of the world who risk their lives
each day that they profess their
faith in Jesus Christ. We should

never forget the voice of the
martyrs. If you feel moved to
reach out to a Christian in Syria to
let him or her know that they are
not alone, I invite you to look over
the materials in the parish hall
and consider donating a Syrian
Outreach Pack with a blanket,
knit hat, bed sheet, socks, solid
color T-shirt, towel and soap or
shampoo. Christians will then
distribute these to their Muslim
neighbors who are in need.
I pray that the entire month may
be one of giving thanks for you
and you loved ones.
Yours in Christ,
Bill+

VIEW FROM THE PEWGive Back
ovember is National Family Caregivers
Month, when we pay tribute to the more
than 65 million Americans who provide care for
those unable to care for themselves. Some are adult children tending to aging parents.
Others are private nurses hired to lend a hand.
They can be grandparents raising grandchildren,
parents raising kids with disabilities, loving
neighbors or close friends. And whether the
caregivers you know come from church groups,
local charities or your own backyard, they all
deserve at least a months worth of thanks.
Without further ado heres a list of ways to
celebrate The National Caregivers Association.
(NFCA)
1. Offer caregiver a few hours of respite time so
he or she can relax or spend time with friends.
Enlist local community centers to volunteer
support, such as transportation help to help
free up a caregivers time.
2. Send a letter or card of appreciation or a
bouquet of flowers.
3. Encourage local business to offer a free
service to caregivers throughout a month.
4. Help decorate a caregivers home for the
holidays or offer to address envelopes for his or
her holiday cards.5. Give a caregiver tickets to a local comedy
club, or your favorite funny movie or book.
6. Find 12 photos of the caregivers family and
friends. Make a special calendar he or she
can use to keep track of appointments and
events.
7. Offer to prepare Thanksgiving dinner.
8. Encourage decision makers at your place ofworship to ask for prayers for the ill and those
who care for them. See if they can create
certificates of appreciation to be filled out by
care recipients.
9. Start a caregiver support network or buddy
system. It would give caregivers in the area an
opportunity to meet and lend each other
support.
10. Identify the help caregivers need most.
Organize a volunteer network to respond to
those needs.
11. Encourage a community organization to
sponsor a healthcare equipment loan
program. Members may have canes,
wheelchairs, commodes and other expensive
equipment they no longer need.
12. Help a caregiver find new educational
materials and support through the NFCA
website, thefamilycaregiver.org
13. Honor caregivers with an event that
recognizes their contribution and provides
them with the opportunity to have some fun
(Your Retirement Advisor, Church Pension Fund)
You are all always in my prayers. In His love and Peace,
Doris J. Weiler

WATER: ESSENTIAL TO LIFEBy: Deacon Debbie
hroughout the Old and New Testament
water is a frequent theme. In Exodus, God
instructs Moses to strike a rock to bring forth waterfor the Israelites. In the Gospel of John Jesus talks
to the Samartian woman at the well about the
living water only he can provide. Water is an
essential aspect to our faith as Christians. But
water is also essential to humanitys physical
survival. Most of us in this country are blessed with
adequate access to clean drinking water. Want a
glass of water, just go to the kitchen sink, turn a
handle and voila clean water flows! Want bottled
water? Just go to the local supermarket and there
it is!
Contaminated water can carry a host of
pathogenic microogranisms and parasites
resulting in illnesses such as cholera, dysentery,
typhoid fever and hepatitis, some of which can be
fatal.
As I mentioned in my
sermon for All Saints Day,
Father Bill and other
missionaries from our Diociese
will be going to the Dominican
Republic next year in late
Februrary. They will be working
with those who, among other
things, do not have access to
clean drinking water. The
team will be teaching the
Domincans how to build a
simple water purification
system using buckets.
As I also mentioned in my sermon, God has
redeemed us by adopting us as his children. Until
the day of Christs coming, we are to show that
love to others. Starting with the first day of
Advent we will launch the Water: Essential to
Life campaign so that we can send Father Bill on
his mission trip not only covered
with prayer but with these life
giving water purification systems.
The whole system costs about
$50. Today there were 47
people in church and if everyone
gave just $1, one of these simple,
life giving systems would
practically be paid for! Lets
leave the world a better place as
we are called to by showing
Gods love to others!

THANK YOU NOTEFr. Bill received the following note from Tricia Moses mother that he wanted to share with the parish:
Dear Reverend Hinrichs,
A belated thank you to you and your congregation for making Sams baptism so
special. Youve always made us feel so welcome and we appreciate people giving up their
seats so we could be together and have a good view of the ceremony.
Every time weve been in your lovely church (4 baptisms and a Christmas pageant),
weve been treated with warmth, kindness, and generocity and it was very much appreciated.
Sincerely,
Kay DePuy
