Chris OReilly & Jim PettiwardDigital literacies are those capabilities which fit an individual for living, learning and working in a digital society(http://www.jiscinfonet.ac.uk/infokits/digital-literacies/)
JISC understands Digital Literacy to mean:This project was initiated as a collaborative project within London Met to foster increased awareness and understanding of digital literacies among both staff and students in the university. Phase 1Research students understanding and use of digital technologies and establish a team of student Digital Ambassadors to help co-create an online resource
Phase 2Pilot a process of engaging staff from subject areas in the Art, Media, Design and Architecture faculty in partnership with the Digital Ambassadors to create bespoke digital literacies resources for their area.
Phase 1What we discovered with a series of student interviews was that there was a huge variety in students Digital Literacies.
We decided to use this diversity as a key part of the resource.
Workshops (by students) for other students and faculties
Focus groups with staff in their teaching area and in their discipline
The idea is to build up more dialogue and discussion between staff and students about what digital practice means
