Fertilizer
Adapt fertilization to soil analysis.Nitrogen (N): 110% in comparison to other mediumearly varieties.Potassium (K): approx. 200 kg K/ha before plantingand 250 kg K/ha after tuberisation improves qualityPhosphate fertilization according to standard advice.Organic manure will help to maintain crop vitality. Manganese and magnesium will encourage a strongfoliage and prevent premature senescence.

General production advice ware potatoes
CHOPIN has a good dormancy.Allow the seed to acclimatize to the local conditions before planting.Tuber and/or soil treatments are advised to control Rhizoctonia, Silver scurf and other soil borneskin diseases. Azoxystrobine as a soil application shows good results on many fungi. The best quality will be reached on fertile and medium heavy clay-soil types. Avoid soils with high common scab risk. When planted on heavier soil, a good structure is crucial.Avoid fields which are sensitive to common scab.Plant CHOPIN 3 cm deeper to obtain for a stronger root system and nutrient uptake.
Emergence is uniform with a good foliage development. The use of metribuzin is recommended before emergence. When applying post emergence, use thelow dose system.Weather conditions have a strong influence on metribuzin effectivity, adapt dose to thecircumstances.Irrigation is advised under dry circumstances.Irrigation results in a more uniform product with better cooking quality.Preventive spraying against Phytophthora is advised.
Aim for a dry matter content of 20 %.Start to measure the dry matter content about 3 weeks before the expected harvest date.CHOPIN has a good tuber detachment. In general, CHOPIN has a good stolone detachment and early skin set. CHOPIN is quite resistant against bruising, unless extreme conditions occur.

Storage
CHOPIN has a good dormancy, therefore ambient storage can be used for the first months afterharvest. Mechanical cooling is required for longer than 4 months storage.REFRIGERATED STORAGEWhen harvested under normal circumstances, mechanical cooling can start very soon (3 days) aftercuring. A cool and dry product prevents increase of silver scurf.Prevent dehydration, cool with a small difference between cooling air and product temperature.Reduce temperature 0,5 - 0,7 degrees a day to a stable value of 3°C-4°C.Ventilate regularly, but briefly, to prevent CO2 accumulation. Any fluctuation in temperature, combined with condensation, can result in early sprouting and ahigh risk of Silver scurf.
