BASICS OF FIBRE OPTICS

This introductory course will allow learners at 'O' level standard of education to gain an understanding of optical fibre cables and of the basics of fibre networks. Together with the application form and payment, applicants are requested to attach a photocopy of their ID Card (front and back). Applications without full payment and photocopy of ID card are considered incomplete and will not be processed.

Applications will be received at The Office of Part-Time Courses, MCAST Main Campus, Corradino Hill, Paola from Monday 24 February to Wednesday 5 March 2014 between 0830hrs and 1900hrs. Applicants wishing to apply before Monday 24 February 2014, may do so online.

Please note that the dates scheduled online are only indicative and the exact starting date will be communicated to applicants by E-mail by the Office of Part-Time Courses.

Enrolment Conditions

• The College reserves the right not to run a course if there are insufficient applications or for any other reason deemed important by the College, in which case payment will be refunded in full.

• The dates and times of courses shown on the Prospectus are subject to change by the Administration according to operational requirements. No requests for refunds will be entertained because of such change.

• Senior citizens are eligible to a 75% discount on all part-time courses or as otherwise indicated. A photocopy of the “Kartanzjan” should be attached to the application form. Applications without a photocopy of the “Kartanzjan” will not benefit from this discount.

• MCAST full-time students will benefit from a 50% discount on all part-time courses. • No discounts apply for the City and Guilds / BTEC / ITEC/ CCNA programme, registration and

examination fees.

Cancellation Policy

• The course fee is non refundable for candidates who choose to withdraw their application. However it may be transferred to another course of the applicant’s preference. This has to be done prior to the closing date of the application period.

• A full refund of the fee will be effected by MCAST in the event that the College is unable to provide the course.

City & Guilds / BTEC / ITEC Programmes and other foreign Awarding Bodies

It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that applications for examinations are duly filled in and submitted at the corresponding Institute. Late applications will be subject to a ‘late application fee’.

Running of Courses

To all eligible applicants:

1. Course Starting Date – All eligible applicants shall receive an E-Mail indicating the starting date and venue. Dates scheduled on the MCAST website are only indicative.

2. Cancellation of Lectures – Cancellation of lectures will be communicated to students via SMS on the mobile number indicated on the application form.

Course Examinations and Certification

Successful completion of courses certified by MCAST entitles the student to either a ‘Certificate of Attendance’ or a ‘Certificate of Achievement’. Further information on which type of certificate one can achieve can be obtained from the course outline available on www.mcast.edu.mt/shortcourses

1. Certificate of Attendance – A certificate will be issued if attendance exceeds 80%.2. Certificate of Achievement – To obtain a Certificate of Achievement, a student must; • Attend a minimum of 80% of the course • Pass successfully the test/assessment.

A student will not be eligible to sit for the final test/assessment if he/she has not attended 80% of the course.

Full Certification

Courses to which an MCAST Level and number of ECTS/ECVET have been assigned can be used as building blocks leading to a full certification.

As an example, it may be possible to take separate units at level 4 in engineering totaling up to 30 credits and thus qualify for a Level 4 Certificate in Engineering. The combination of units needs to be approved by MCAST.

Units can also be taken separately and in such cases a single unit certificate will be issued after successful completion of the unit.

Ċertifikazzjoni

Korsijiet li ġew mogħtija Livell mill-MCAST kif ukoll ġew assenjati n-numru ta’ ECTS/ECVET, jistgħu jservu ta’ ħolqa f’katina li twassal biex persuna tikseb Ċertifikat jew Diploma.

Pereżempju, wieħed jista’ jieħu numru ta’ unitajiet fl-inġinerija li jkunu kollha ta’ Livell 4 u li bejniethom iġibu 30 krediti u hekk jikkwalifika għal Ċertifikat ta’ Livell 4 fl-Inġinerija. It-taħlita tal-unitajiet tkun trid tiġi approvata mill-MCAST.

L-unitajiet jistgħu jittieħdu wkoll separatament u f’każijiet bħal dawn, l-istudent li jtemm il-kors b’suċċess jingħata ċertifikat għal dik l-unità partikolari.
