DE FLOREThe eclectic De Flore café brings something fresh and new into the neighborhood for visitors to see. Working in conjunction with the gallery on the above floor, the café displays modern and quaint interiors along with several artistic pieces. At the gallery, various exhibitions are held by organizations such as the Korean Fashion Illustration Organization. Visitors can freely take breaks in between at the café. The friendly staff serves all the basic coffee varieties, such as Americano, Latte, Cappuccino, along with blackberry ade and maesil (plum) ade as caffeine-free options. HAMILTON HOTEL CLOSED FOR RENOVATION It has stood over Itaewon Station since it opened in 1973. With 166 guestrooms, dining rooms, swimming pools, and a shopping center it’s been a staple and landmark of the neighborhood for decades. For the past few weeks, the famous hotel has been undergoing obvious renovations with a notable lack of windows. The reinvigorated orange staple of Hannam-dong is set to reopen in May of 2015, just in time for bikini weather.

MEET THE OWNER

Welcoming visitors at the beginning of Gyeongridan street is the Hidden Cellar liquor store and bar. Its cozy interiors and casual atmosphere, where you can walk up to the fridge, grab a drink, and take it to go or sip it at the bar, make it the ideal place to relax with friends.

Running the enterprise is Tobias Jerling, who hails from South Africa and brings his passion for New World wines and great scotch to people in Korea. “There isn’t enough justice done for New World wines,” says Tobias. “A lot of places sell French wine, but I like doing something different.” Since he imports the wines from South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and Chile, he can offer the bar’s popular wine on tap for just W12,500 for a bottle. His current favorites are spice roots Murviedro and the Goats do Roam, a Bordeaux-style blended red. For the cold winter, Tobias recommends the fortified Port and Sherry wine, which will be available soon along with a new snack menu.

Harry Big Button

Hard, heavy metal rock is a rare jewel among the Korean indie scene, and Harry Big Button far exceeds expectations. Named after the British slang for a cheap-looking, vintage car stereo with chunky big buttons, Harry Big Button deftly combines vintage influences with modern styles to create their own unique take of post-hard rock music.

Formed in 2011, it is currently made up of lead vocalist and guitarist Sungsoo Lee, Neil Smith on bass, and Taegi Keem on drums. Take a listen to the energetic and lively “Perfect Storm” EP to get a taste of their powerful vocals and heavy instrumentals. Inspired by surrounding friends, relationships, current affairs, and the inner voice from deep within, you’ll sense the passion and energy that the band carries. Going forward, the band plans on releasing a new album and creating unique shows for their audience. They’ll be live at the upcoming “6th Club Crawl” at Itaewon on Saturday, December 6 at 9:00 PM for a good head-banging night. 2011년에 결성된 이 3인조 밴드는 현재 리드보컬 겸 기타리스트 이성수, 베이스의 닐 스미스, 그리고 드럼의 김태기로 팀을 구성하고 있습니다. 파워풀한 보컬과 헤비한 사운드가 돋보이는 EP앨범 "Perfect Storm"은 그들만의 음악세계를 잘 보여주고 있으니 꼭 들어보시기 바랍니다. 듣는 것만으로 열정과 즐거움이 느껴지는 그들의 음악은 주로 친구, 관계, 시사, 내면의 목소리에서 영감을 얻어 탄생한다고 합니다. 현재 밴드는 새 앨범의 발매와 함께 팬들을 위한 잊지못할 콘서트도 준비 중이니 많은 기대바랍니다.
