Speaking from his San Fransisco home, Mr Birch told the local Devon newspaper it was ‘a moment of madness.’

He said: “It made me feel very English; being American one has to keep clinging onto these things.

“It was a relatively small project compared to

our other projects, but it is an important part of the village nonetheless.”

Mr Birch said he was looking forward to visiting the chip shop soon, as good fish and chips are hard to come by in Silicon Valley.

Manager Jay Oyarzarbal said the shop made everything in-house, using sustainable fish and local meat.

He added: “We’ve had a really good response so far and we’re happy to be here.”

Middleton Food Products are launching a new updated website this

summer. It will be more user friendly by being fully fluid and adaptable to different devices e.g. laptops, i-pads and mobiles. Plus the product layout will be more dynamic and easier to navigate within the site.

The website has details of all of the batters and their characteristics and there is an enquiry form to request samples, flowcups or a training visit. A new additional micro site has also been designed to highlight the exceptional after sales service provided by the Middletons Sales Team - so watch this space for more details and the campaign as it unfolds.

Ryan Baker concluded by adding “We believe that Middleton Foods provide the complete package for the Fish Fryer. With a team of Area Managers solely dedicated

to the fish and chip industry, our level of service to the customers sets us apart. Call us or visit our website for a free sample of any of our batters or to arrange a shop visit from our friendly sales team. We look forward to helping you to achieve the very best from your batter.”

This month’s featured fish and chip shop is in Norwich. The Grosvenor Fish Bar has been a family tradition for over 30 years. Serving freshly cut chips and perfectly battered fish, in a 1700’s listed building. In last year’s National Fish and Chip Awards they made the top 20 not bad considering co-owner Christian only took over from his father just 3 years ago.

Christian Motta, 43, worked for ten years in New York as an interior design and a costume designer

for film and TV sets before returning to take over the Grosvenor Fish Bar from his father Mal. Mal Motta was born in Italy but grew up in Wales, where his father ran a chip shop in Caerphilly which was once visited by Welsh singing legend Tom Jones.

“I always loved this shop,” he said. “I used to work in it when I was a 15 and when I had the opportunity to buy it and I thought it

needed a face-lift so we renovated it as a project.

The Grosvenor Fish Bar is a long established traditional fish and chip shop, with a twist. Serving the usual chip shop fare, plus an interesting selection of sandwiches and wraps including sea bass, mackerel, tuna and rock salmon.

They have seating downstairs for up to 50 – with ‘eat in’ and ‘take away’ at the same price. On my visit I took the alcohol route at the pub next door for If you want to have a beer or a glass of fizz with your meal, just order in the chippy and they deliver it to you at The Birdcage Pub just across the road.

who loved her experience was blogger ‘LelaLondon.’

“As it was our only full day in the city we had planned to cram in as much as we could. For fuels sake, we headed through The Lanes to experience the supposed magic Grosvenor Fish Bar.

I never thought I would be able to praise a chippy…but YOU GUYS. This is the fish shop of all fish shops. Recently refurbished, the 90-year old Grosvenor Fish Bar is all the English tradition you could hope for with a retro Americana twist. With limited space at the ‘Bar’ itself, the owners have turned the lower floor into a cave of impossibly quirky bunker dining but have also teamed up with the adjacent pub – The Birdcage – should you want a tipple with your fish feast. Delivery included.

Naturally, we did the latter.Surrounded by a gallery wall, trinkets,

and smiling hipsters a-plenty, we placed

our gargantuan order and watched the door excitedly from our 70s-inspired chairs.

Everyone’s heads turned as our order arrived. Taking up the entirety of our table, we powered through a Bass With Sass (crispy sea bass fillet wrap with lettuce and spicy mango salsa), Wako Taco (spicy steamed cod wrap, salsa, lettuce, cheese, sour cream), Shark Bites (shark nuggets served with a miso dip), a Cod Goujon (the classic), and fried pickles/battered gherkins with aioli. The stuff of childhood dreams.

Even if you’re only in Norwich for one hour, you must find time to visit Grosvenor Fish Bar”.

Two major players tell us why P100 is their oil of choice

Call the Coastguard

Coastguard Fish & Chips...

Hayling’s premier fish and chip restaurant and take away is situated on the sunny South of the Island at Eastoke corner.

The Coastguard Cafe was originally Coastguard Cottages. It was first established in 1942 by Victor and Annie Elliott. They opened the business as tea rooms, with a fish and chip takeaway next door. They also ran a fresh shellfish and a fruit and veg stall at the front of the building.

The menu in those days consisted of cream teas, or eggs, beans, ham and peas etc. But in the 1960s you could order a beach tray, (which as its name suggests you could take it down the beach with you). And when you returned the crockery, you would get your 10 shillings deposit back which was equivalent to 50p in today’s money.

The business has been kept in the family since 1942 till present day and is still run by Jeff Clark and his wife Caroline, also Jeff’s mum Irene who is now in her late 80’s still has an active role in the business. Their daughters Charlotte and Hermione work their too.

Jeff tells us one of the secrets of their success in the fish and chip shop is using P100. “We only use the best ingredients, and after trialling all the leading brands we found that P100 outperforms its rivals. Add to that a very reasonable price, it makes it the right choice for our business.

Although we have been trading since 1942 we always strive to stay ahead of the competition.”

Top Shop Chooses P100Hennighan’s Top Shop was established in 1982 by David’s parents Janet and Richard Hennighan. Even then working for my parents it was apparent to David that all frying oils were different.

After a year experimenting with different oils and fats we came to the conclusion that P100 vegetable frying fat was the best choice for us and there are several reasons why. It is a natural ingredient which gives consistency in the taste and freshness of our fish and chips. P100 Vegetable frying oil is suitable for vegetarians as it is free from any animal fats and also additives. This oil is made from non-hydrogenated vegetable oil which gives low trans fatty acids. Another great reason why we use P100 is its odourless this was a major issue as we don’t want our customers to smell anything but good quality fish and chips.

After eating a portion of our fish and chips we want to make sure that our customers do not taste anything but Hennighan’s Top Shop fish and chips and this is why P100 is great as there is not extra taste. Even though fish and chips is a takeaway meal P100 does not offer a greasy meal. This product is one of the most important thing to have correct in this business.

P100 has OVER 60 YEARS of frying experience, helping to create great tasting food time and time again. Being refined to the purest level, P100 offers unrivalled consistency in taste & freshness from the first portion to the last.

“It is the consistently high quality of Frymax, together with our customer visit and support programme that keeps

the Frymax brand as the fryers’ favourite” says Andrew Marriott, Brand and Marketing Manager for Frymax. For the fifth consecutive year, four of the ten regional winners in The Best Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award are Frymax users. In addition, two of the five finalists in the Best

Restaurant category are Frymax users, including the winner, Burton Road

Chippy. “When you consider the different frying mediums, such as dripping, various liquid oils and palm , coupled with the number of brands in the market, it is a testimony to the consistent quality of Frymax

that once again 40% of the finalists fry with Frymax,” says Marriott.

The strength and reputation of a brand depends on the experiences of its users. Strong brands earn the loyalty of their customers by their consistent high quality. Frymax have identified five fryers who have been using their product for over 50 years and more than 80 fryers who have used Frymax for between 25 and 50 years. Marriott sees this as a testimony to the consistent high quality of Frymax, “I doubt if there is another all vegetable brand in our marketplace that could make such a claim.”

Mr Solomou of Gerard Street Fish Bar in Derby who have used Frymax for over forty years says “Frymax is the best quality product. It gives long life, consistency of colour and always produces tasty food which our customers love and keep coming back for more. It is one of the foundations of our business.”

New UsersFrymax continues to gain new users from all sectors of the market. Mr. Vella of Pizza Amore in Glasgow , a dripping user for 30 years switched to Frymax two years ago. “Since moving to Frymax my trade has increased by over 30%. The food is lighter , less greasy and has a much cleaner taste. I won’t move away from Frymax.“

My Plaice Fish and Chips in Gorleston , Great Yarmouth moved from an own label blended vegetable fat to Frymax two years ago. Owner Neil Bains says “ Moving to Frymax has been one of the best choices we’ve made in our business. Customers love its unique taste and quality which has helped us achieve national awards. In aiming to be the best you have to use the best and that is Frymax.”

Lakeside Takeaway in Cheltenham had used a hydrogenated fat for over 30 years. Last year they changed to Frymax. Owner John Izamis says “ Frymax  produces a lighter and crispier product. The customer feedback from day one has been very positive. I am also using less oil because Frymax lasts longer. I was so impressed with Frymax that I encouraged my sister to make the change in her shop. The results have been just as positive. We will not change from Frymax.“

The Premier Cafe in Budleigh Salterton had used another branded palm oil for  nine years . Twelve months ago they changed to Frymax. Owner Simon Blisset says “I wish I had changed to Frymax years ago. I thought our fish and chips were good but now with Frymax they are even better. The comments from our customers have been remarkable. The product retains less fat and has a cleaner and crispier taste. The longevity of the oil is better than any other oil I have used.”

Andrew Marriott says “We thank our loyal users and our many new customers for their support in keeping Frymax at the top.”

“There Is No Substitute For Quality” says Andrew Marriott of Frymax

The Fryers’ Favourite For Over 60 Years.

Chippy’s is a real family concern, currently in the fourth generation of fryers and with eleven family members involved in the business. Established in 1955 and with the addition of successful mobile and catering businesses Chippy’s is run by Glenn and Chris Edwards, with family help of course!

Alongside the family there is another consistent factor which has helped them produce great tasting products. And that is Frymax which they have been using as their cooking medium since 1955. “We fry in Frymax which is of consistent quality, odourless and doesn’t transfer taste” says Glenn, “This means our customers get delicious fish and chips every time.We have never had a complaint about Frymax in sixty years!”

Frymax is produced from top quality pure white sustainable premium palm, which is additive free and contains no hydrogenated oils. Not only does it guarantee consistently good results, its performance is long lasting without any deterioration in quality.

The Chippy’s family know that to produce the best you have to use the best and there is none better than Frymax.

TIME TO SWITCH TO

FRIWITE!

Pure, light, and cost effective – a few of the many

benefits that has seen fish friers throughout the

UK switching to FriWite 100% long-life vegetable

oil. Containing no hydrogenated fats and less

than 1% trans fat, we take a closer look into

what else you love about FriWite.

Lorenzo Andreucci, Central Chippy, Kinross, Fife“Since I tried FriWite, I haven’t looked back. I find that my food is

crispier and the flavour is fantastic. I’ve noticed a difference in how much longer its frying life is – and even towards to end there is no

foaming and it still has a pleasant smell. Overall, I am very pleased with FriWite and can’t imagine using anything else”

Simon Hunter, Barnby-Dun Fish & Chips, Doncaster“FriWite has exceeded my expectations in terms of its quality.

It lasts longer and withstands high temperatures very well. My products fry with no aftertaste. I am very

pleased and can recommend FriWite to other friers.”

Marcus French, French’s Fish & Chips, Well-Next-The-Sea, Norfolk

“I am extremely satisfied with FriWite and would

happily recommend the brand to

other shops.”

Phillip Noise, Oakdale Fish, Poole, Dorset “We’ve used FriWite for years – it’s great

stuff! We love the results”

Mustapha Aitbouzit, Parker Street Chippy, Chorley, Lancashire“FriWite is a hard-wearing fat. I have been using for over three years now and I wouldn’t change for anything! It is competitively priced and I would highly recommend this oil to anyone. I use the best - now I can forget the rest!”

Nick Vine, The Village Chippy, Bedworth, Warwickshire “I think customers nowadays are more aware of what they are eating, so I let them know that I am frying in a healthier alternative with FriWite posters and window stickers. I like that FriWite it is non-hydrogenated and has less than 1% trans fat – it sets it apart from other oils. The results are impressive and my food tastes great – I’ve found the right balance with FriWite.’

A huge congratulations from all at Testo limited and Chippy Chat to Michael Vernon of Vernon’s Fish

Bar (Crewe), winner of the competition featured in  our Chippy Chat March magazine. Michael answered our question correctly (Total Polar Material) , and was selected at random as the winner and has been given a brand new Testo 270 cooking oil tester worth over £350!As you can see from the images below, Michael couldn’t be happier with his new recruit. The cooking oil tester  will not only save Vernon’s fish bar money on oil consumption, but will make certain that their Fish & chips are always top quality.Testo’s 270 allows you to determine within seconds whether cooking oil needs changing. To do so, it measures the ‘Total Polar Material’ (TPM) content in the oil, which is a sure indicator of its quality. It will then provide you with a reading and based on the colour of the screen display

you will know the current state of the oil.To get your hands on a Testo 270 visit their website for full detailswww.testo l imi ted .com/testo-270-cooking-oil-testerLook out for further competitions in Chippy Chat or online at www.chippychat.co.uk

Last year more than 50 people took part, helping the Brae chippy to raise a whopping £10,000 for the

Fishermen’s Mission.  This year the proceeds will be split

between the Fishermen’s Mission and Alzheimer’s Research UK and Cancer Research UK.

Frankie’s manager Carlyn Kearney said: “As ever, the 10-mile, 20-mile and 40-mile routes will be open to cyclists of all ages and abilities so we hope you will be able to come along and have a fun day – with a fish supper from the UK’s best fish and

chip shop waiting for you at the end!  “Once again we will be holding a

bumper raffle and we would appeal to local businesses and individuals to help by contributing prizes. It will be drawn at Frankie’s after completion of the cycle event.”

Frankie’s – the 2015 Fish and Chip Shop of the Year would love fish and chip suppliers and other shop owners to get involved too by donating prizes, cash or even sponsored riders for the event.

Registration forms can be downloaded from their website www.frankiesfishandchips.com or picked up from the shop. Sponsorship forms can be picked up from the shop or one can be sent out – please call 01806 522700 to request one.

www.frankiesfishandchips.com/get-on-your-bike

Registration and sponsorship forms are now available for the fifth annual Frankie’s Charity

Cycle Sportive, which will be held on Sunday 30th August.

From the best-selling 42ND STREET Classic Sausage to whole chicken breast 42ND STREET Fillet Bites and Chicken Fillet Breasts, you can rest assured that you are serving the finest food with the finest ingredients.

The ORIGINAL 42ND STREET Classic Sausage is number one in fish and chip shops for a reason. Produced from only quality

prime cuts of pork, the Classic Sausage has been specifically developed to ensure fantastic flavour coupled with a succulent yet firm bite. The high pork content of 50% is what makes The ORIGINAL 42ND STREET Classic truly special – this percentage of pork means that it can justifiably be called a pork sausage – a status not many others can claim!

For great value, why not try The Original 42ND STREET Deep Fry Sausage, with a 40% pork content and the same exceptional flavour profile.

Due to popular demand, the same unmistakeable taste of The ORIGINAL 42ND STREET Classic Sausage is now also available in Gluten Free. Each batch is manufactured in the UK and laboratory tested to maintain the highest quality. This ensures each 50% pork sausage passes the maximum level of 20ppm, meaning gluten is completely undetectable.

When it comes to chicken, 42ND STREET know that only the best will do. That’s

why only welfare-audited succulent whole muscle chicken breast is used in both The Original 42ND STREET Battered Chicken Breast 120g Fillet and Chicken Fillet Bites. Each chicken piece is coated in specially developed flavours and spices, resulting in a light and golden crispy outer coating, ensuring satisfaction with every mouth-watering bite.

James Houlston - YFF Finalist 2015 and Guest Editor

Let’s go back to the start, I was 13 and needed a part time job to earn some money, Gregg and Caroline Howard

had just opened their 2nd Our Plaice shop and they needed a potato person - perfect.

I was trained in all aspects of potato preparation, there was a lot to learn but I had plenty of time. It started off as just a way of earning my pocket money doing a couple of hours every night after school but this was all to change, I had caught the bug and I wanted to learn everything else there was to know about fish and chips.

After I had been working with the Our Plaice team for 2 years there was a chance for me to move on from just potatoes, even though I have learnt this is one of the most important and key aspects of our job creating the perfect chip - get this right and you are half way there.

I moved up to being a runner for the frier and working on the counter serving; I was still only youngster but I had a lot of interest in the job I was doing. Working alongside the then current Young Fish Frier of the Year and Gregg Howard (a true captain of our industry) was a great opportunity for me to take in as much knowledge as I could.

When I was 17 it was time for me to

move up to a full time frier but I was still new to fish frying in my eyes and still had a lot to learn before I was ready to enter myself into the Young Fish Frier competition.

After 2 years of being a full time fish frier and asking as many questions as I could along the way, I felt I was ready to give Young Fish Frier Of The Year my best shot.

The goal I set myself at 13 is finally becoming reality and it’s the best decision I have made. What a great 8 months they were. Entering the competition opens more doors in the industry than you could imagine and you get the chance to network with people with the same interests as you.

Being involved gets you invited on trips to see all different sides of the fish and chip industry, we visited Isle of Ely Produce twice to see all sides of potato farming, we went to Amsterdam to visit Florigo ranges, Petershead White fish market and processing plant, Kerry foods took us to their flour mill, AAK oils gave us a tour of their oil factory.

I am very passionate about our industry and it’s a great career for any young person to choose, fish and chips is our heritage and would encourage anybody to get involved, we are one big family.

There’s a clear reason Norwegian cod and haddock tastes so good. And it’s not just our water.Norway’s pristine waters give our cod and haddock their distinctively chunky, succulent white fl esh.

But just as importantly, our vessels freeze their catch at sea to lock in the Arctic freshness. Wherever you

see the Norge logo in fi sh & chip shops, you can rest assured that the cod or haddock you order is the

real thing, of exceptional quality and sustainably caught from our abundant stocks. Enjoy!

Bow Wow Wow!

Bowpicker fish and chips is a dry dock gillnetter boat owned by Linda and Ron Ford. Found on the Oregon

coast in Astoria. Their menu is pretty straightforward. Fish and Chips. Whole order or half order. Sodas. That’s it. It’s made fresh to order — crispy with a flaky interior. Sprinkle on a little malt vinegar and dip it in the homemade tartar sauce. This place is an old Bowpicker fishing boat that they pulled out of the water and converted into a walk-up food boat. They fry up fish as quickly as they can until they run out. So get there early! The local newspaper sums up the place nicely. Follow the old men, and you’ll find it.

A fish and chip shop that tweets “Weekly update: We are open

Wed-Sun 11ish -6, weather permitting and unless we run out of

fish. Have a great week” has to be part of our fish and chip

abroad feature.

Starting at 11 am, across Marine Drive from Astoria’s Columbia River Maritime Museum, you’ll see them waiting in a single-file line stretching down the steps and into the gravel. What they want is the same thing they had last time, the same thing they have every damn time, the only thing on the menu: The most famous fish and chips in Astoria. They are served in three-piece half orders and five-piece full orders out of a 28-foot-long, 1932-christened, converted gillnet boat called Bowpicker Fish & Chips, which for 15 years has been dishing out fish instead of hauling it in, from a parking-lot dry dock. In an old cannery town on the Oregon Coast, this is what passes for a food cart. (Across the street, the gas station has a falafel cart of the more traditional sort, but the line’s at Bowpicker). But don’t ask for halibut or cod or something. Astoria has no use for halibut. The breaded fish at Bowpicker is 100 percent Pacific Coast Albacore tuna, the steak of the sea, caught by local fishermen and fried lightly in a golden batter. And for a mere $10, you get five chunks of breaded albacore that add up to something like a half-pound. It is tender, and it is moist, and you do not need the lemon wedge. Heck, you barely need the tartar sauce—although you’ll use it.But damn: that tuna. There are no fine seafood restaurants in Astoria—none survive the tourist-free winter, said the man serving salmon chowder one morning. There is just this one amazing chip shack. And I submit: It’s good enough for you, for mewww.bowpicker.com

The colourful book, titled ‘Where Do Fish and Chips Come From?’, follows main character ‘Bonny’ (the

namesake of Simpsons Co-Founder Bonny Ritchie) on an adventure meeting the likes of Fisherman Frank and Farmer Fred. The book explores where their food is sourced from and how it is prepared.

Co-Founder James Richie, from Simpsons Fish and Chips, said: “Teaching children the source of their food is incredibly important to us. Children often see food when it’s in packaging or cooked and ready prepared so we hope with our book to show little ones the process. In particular with Fish & Chips, how little is involved from sea to plate. Just fresh, natural ingredients, simply prepared and cooked.”

Where Do Fish and Chips Come From?’ will be available from Simpsons Fish and Chips this summer. Simpsons launched the book recently at the Priors Road shop to schoolchildren from St Mary’s C of E Infant School.

Simpsons have won several awards including the Isle of Ely Produce sponsored ‘From Field To Frier’ Award at The National Fish and Chips Awards 2015.

The famous chip shop only uses natural ingredients with no MSG, salt or bulking agents which have absolutely no artificial colours or flavouring.

Simpsons Fish and Chips is the only MSC certified chip shop in Gloucestershire. The MSC hallmark is awarded to people who commit to using only fish that is sourced responsibly.

James added: “Fish and chips are not as unhealthy as everyone thinks it is, and that is something that we wanted to get across in the book. It should, of course, be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet but it has real nutritional value - especially the way we cook it!

The book reflects the steps we take to create healthy fish and chips and our aim is to educate children on sourcing food responsibly and introduce them to the journey that it has to take in order to be enjoyed.”

Book, Line and SinkerSimpsons, Cheltenham’s famous chippy, have

launched a book to educate young children on the journey of fish and chips from ‘field to fork’. The book will teach children about the source of their food and

the truth behind where fish and chips come from.

Not long now until Isle of Ely Produce and Chippy Chat open their doors to chip shop

owners and managers so they can see first-hand the journey a potato makes before it

reaches their shops.

FREE TRADE OPEN DAY!

It will be an important day for suppliers too  as much of the day will be spent exchanging ideas and listening to key

speakers presenting ideas from across the industry.

The event will be held on Monday 7th September in Ely, Cambridgeshire and will be available on a first come first served basis. The KFE open day is on September 6th so many people stay over and choose to visit both.

Included in the day will be a visit to one of the biggest potato farmers in Cambridgeshire. He will demonstrate just how much it takes to grow the

perfect potatoes. We will also have on display millions of pounds worth of farm machinery too at the farm and also some live demonstrations.

We will also supply refreshments during the day too.

It is also hoped then that many people will stay on in Ely for the evening and then meet up later for a meal and a few drinks whilst discussing the latest trends in the industry and how everyone can get involved with promoting fish and chips!

Isle of Ely Produce once again sponsor the ‘From Field to Frier Award’ in the National Fish and Chip Awards 2016, organised by Seafish. This event is an extension of that commitment to the industry.

The From Field to Frier Award recognises businesses for their excellence in potato knowledge, sourcing and storage, and their attention to detail and skill in producing quality chips.

If you who want to buy a personalised numbered licence plate you can expect to pay top dollar for the

most sought after number and letter combinations available in the UK. The most expensive numbered UK licence plate ever was the ‘F1’ plate which sold for £440,000 in 2008. The proud owner, Afzal Khan placed the Formula One initials on his Mercedes-Benz McLaren, which interestingly enough cost £200,000 less than the plate itself at the time. It has since been reported that he would consider selling the plate for a cool £10 million.

In a world where buyers are limited by the number and letter combinations they can use on their car, finding a special personalised number plate is rare. Car owners can get these items directly from the DVLA, or they can peruse  eBay  to find a wide variety of cherished number plates for sale or you can call George F White direct.

The two plates for sale are TA T1EP8 ATOIf you like the look of either of the

plates featured on this page please contact Laura Carr on 01388 529538 or email her at [email protected]. Why not make her an offer – we’re sure that she will accept less than £10 million.

This business has been under the ownership of the vendor for 15 years, and has since, built up an extremely enviable reputation within the local community. Trade received is predominately repeat custom from the local community although excellent scope exists to gain new business through a little marketing. The business has only been brought to the market due to the vendor’s wish to relocate.

The business premises occupies a single storey unit, located within a purpose built row of shops on one of the main roads into the estate. The front of the property looks straight to street and there is ample on street parking directly outside and in the surrounding area. The property benefits from large display window at the front of the building and the sales area provides a welcoming environment. The business is fully fitted to an excellent standard, with all necessary equipment required to operate a business of this nature, including a 3 pan fryer which is situated behind a large service counter. The area also benefits from a spacious food preparation area and a convenient storage area. The business is offered at walk in condition, and no further work is needed before new owners commence trading.

Kings Business Transfer are delighted to present to

the market a long established traditional English fish & Chip takeaway ‘Denholme Fisheries’, situated in West Yorkshire - occupying a prime trading corner position in the delightful village of Denholme, a small town in the Bradford Metropolitan Borough.

The fish and chip shop has been established on the same site since 1908, and is therefore an integral part of the local community that is undoubtedly cherished. Over the years, the business has earned a truly enviable reputation within the local community which benefits from high levels of repeat custom.

Currently offering only fish & chips, scope already exists to take the business further by adding to the menu. The business operates 42 weeks of the year and opens 4 and a half days of the week on very minimal hours; with the vendors only frying 18 and a half hours a week. This therefore provides new owners with further scope to increase opening times to generate greater levels of profit.

The premises itself is equipped to a high standard with an extensive range of good quality and valuable catering equipment; all of which has been well maintained. The sales area is bright and airy to create a warm and welcoming environment.

The sale of the business also comes with a large, self-contained 3 bedroom property which spans four floors. The accommodation is almost twice the size of neighbouring properties; making this aspect of the sale particularly attractive. The ground floor comprises a dining room, kitchen and a cellar beneath. The first floor comprises a living room, 1 double bedroom and a shower/ bathroom. The second floor incorporates two double bedrooms and bathroom. The property overall benefits from having many of its original features; including wooden beams, ceiling roses, ornate cornicing and a large cast iron wood burning stove.

Denholme Fisheries is a very lucrative business with tremendous scope and potential. Currently run by the owner, the fish and chip shop aims to provide the very best of fish and chips to the local community. It should be noted that there is currently a new housing estate being built in the area, which will add to the already extensive customer base that the business has built up. To avoid disappointment, viewing is highly recommended at the earliest opportunity.

Denholme Fisheries is available for sale, exclusively through Kings Business Transfer on a freehold basis, for offers in the region of £170,000. If you require any further information on this business please do not hesitate to contact us on 0844 7011 823, quoting the reference 43806.
