The 12 animals are the rooster, the dog ,the pig ,the rat , the ox
,the tiger ,the rabbit , the dragon ,the snake ,the horse the goat (or sheep) and the
monkey.
Festival• The festival is the main
holiday.• It lasts for 15 days. • They have been celebrating
Chinese new year since 2000bc
• The festival is a time of celebration, feasting with the family, and letting of firecrackers.
Hong bao
• Red envelopes are handed out to younger generations by their parents , grandparents, relatives and even close neighbours and friends.
• Giving Hong bao is a Chinese tradition that happens during the Chinese new year.
Chinese lanterns
• They let off lanterns the last they of the festival.
• They let off hundreds of lanterns.
New Year resolutions
• Common Chinese new year activity includes• Cleaning the house.• Purchasing new clothes.• Paying off debts.• Painting their door and window panes.• Getting new haircuts.
Facts• The Chinese New Year is celebrated in other
countries as well.• Two countries that celebrate the Chinese New
Year are parts of Ireland and New Zealand.• Most people take a week of work and visit
their home towns or villages.• Everything is closed for at least three days
(New Year’s day and the two days after) even stores that normally stay open 24 hours.

symbol of wealth
Chinese calendar
• The beginnings of the Chinese calendar can be traced back to the 14th century B.C.E legend has it that the Emperor Huangdi invented the calendar in 2637 B.C.E.
The Chinese parade• The parade is the main event of
the Chinese new year celebrations.
• It is in one of the top ten parades in the world.
• It is full of colour and imagery.• It is a display of ancient Chinese
customs and traditions.
The Dragon Dance• Dragons dances are
performed at New year to scare away evil spirits. During the dance the performers hold poles and raise and lower the dragon. Sometimes one man has a pearl of wisdom on a pole and he entices the dragon to follow him to the beat of the drum as if searching for wisdom and knowledge.
