On behalf of thé Director-General, and within thé framework of thé UNESCO/People'sRepublic of China (Thé Gréât Wall) Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme, l ampleased to inform you that thé Government of thé People's Republic of China is offeringseventy-five (75) fellowships for thé académie year 2019-2020 for advanced studies invaried subjects for thé benefit of thé invited Member States (see Annex l).

Thèse fellowships are intended for thé students and scholars who wish to pursueadvanced studies or undertake research at undergraduate and postgraduate levels inChinese universities for a duration of one year. UNESCO/PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC 0F CHINA (THE GREAT WALL)

CO-SPONSORED FELLOWSHIPS PROGRMME 2019-2020

With a viewto promoting thé human resource development and capacity building ofdevelopingcountries and to enhancing international exchanges in thé field of éducation, culture,communication, science and technology and thé friendship among peoples of thé world, théGovernment of thé People's Republic of China has placed at thé disposai of UNESCO for théacadémie year 2019-2020, under thé co-sponsorship with UNESCO, seventy-five (75)fellowships for advanced studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levets. Thèse fellowshipsare for thé benefit of developing Member States in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Europeand Arab région (please see thé list of invited Member States in ANNEX l).

Tenable at a selected number of Chinese universities, thèse fellowships are intended forstudents and scholars who plan to pursue advanced studies or undertake individual researchwith periodic guidance from thé assigned supervisors in China for a duration of one year.Twenty-five (25) of thé 75 fellowships are especially intended for candidatures recommendedby thé Teacher Training Institutions supported by UNESCO-CFIT Project in thé 10 Africancountries to undertake an Advanced Training Programme for pré- and in-service teachers,teachereducators and trainers at East China Normal University. Most of thé study programmeswill be conducted in English. In exceptional cases, candidates may be required to studyChinese language before taking up research or studying in their fields of interest.

Selected candidates witl undertake their studies in thé host universities as visiting scholars.Extension or repeated award offellowships will be impossible underthe same UNESCOfellowships programme. Therefore, selected candidates who intend to continue their studiesor pursue degrees will need to seek other types of funding after thé completion of this one-year fetlowship. A. FIELDS 0F STUDIES AT SELECTED UNIVERSITIES

B. Eligibility

(i) Applicants applying for Général Scholar Programmes must not be older thanthé âge of forty-five (45) and hâve completed at least two years ofundergraduate study; and those who apply for Senior Scholar Programmesmust be a master's degree holder or an associate professor (or above)and notolder than thé âge of fifty (50).

(ii) English proficiency is required.(iii) Be in good health, both mentally and physically.

C. PROCEDURE FOR APPLICANTS FOR THE SUBMISSION 0F APPLICATIONSTO THE CHINA SCHOLARSHIP COUNCIL (CSC)

Only thé applications endorsed by thé relevant Government body (thé NationalCommission for UNESCO) are receivable by UNESCO.

Eligible applicants, after receiving thé endorsement of thé National Commissionsfor UNESCO of their home countries, must submit their applications in thé onlineapplication System on thé officiai website of China Scholarship Council(htt ://www.csc.edu.cn/stud inchina) by 15 March 2019 at thé latest with thé fotlowingmandatory documents:

(i) Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship in Chinese or English(thé form can be downloaded and printed after completing thé online application)

(ii) Notarized photocopies of highest diploma: Prospective diploma winners mustsubmit officiai proof of student status notarized by their current schools.Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attachedwithnotarized Chinese or English translation.

(iii) Académie transcripts: transcripts in languages other than Chinese or Englishmust be attached with notarized Chinese or English translation.

(iv) A Study Plan or Research Proposai (at least 500 words in Chinese or English)for thé study or research to be undertaken in China

(v) Recommendation Letters: Applicants for Senior Scholar Programmes mustsubmit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors orassociate professors familiar with thé work of thé applicants.

(vi) Thé form of Certificate of Language Proficiency stamped and/or signed by acompétent authority to prove thé applicant has sufficient language knowledgeto attend thé courses of study. (See thé form of Certificate of LanguageProficiency in thé annexes)

(vii) A photocopy of Foreign Physical Examination Form completed in English (théapplicant should keep thé original copy). Thé physical examination must coverail thé items tisted in thé Foreign Physical Examination Form. Incomplèterecords or those without thé signature of thé attending physician, thé officiaistamp of thé hospital or a sealed photograph, or those without thé signature ofthé applicants are invalid. Please sélect thé appropriate time to take physicalexamination, as thé result is valid for 6 month. (See Foreign PhysicalExamination Form in thé annexes)

Applicants shall also submit thé following documents if applicable

(vi i i ) Pre-ad mission Letter from designated Chinese university.(ix) Valid language qualification certificate (e. g. HSK certificate, IELTS or TOFEL

report)(x) Applicants for music studies are requested to submit a CD of their own works.

Applicants for fine arts programmes must submit a CD of their own works, whichinclude two sketches, two color paintings, and two other works.

(xi) Applicants under thé âge of 18 should submit thé valid documents of their légalguardians in China.

Applicants must submit ail thé mandatory documents mentioned above in thé onlineapplication System.

D. SUBMISSION BY THE NATIONAL COMMISSIONS FOR UNESCO 0FCANDIDATURES TO UNESCO

Letters of nomination and thé application documents should be sent to Mr StoyanBantchev, Chief of thé Participation Programme and Fellowships Section by e-mail(s. bantchev unesco. or ), with a.slo'neva unesco. or and v. loDvfâunesco. org incopy by 15 March 2019 at thé latest.

Each invited Member States can submit two (2) candidatures at thé maximum forGeneral/Senior Scholar programmes, and one of them should be woman.

Since twenty-five (25) of thé 75 fellowships are especially intended for thé candidaturesapplying for CFIT Advanced Teacher Training Programme, each UNESCO-CFITcountries are invited to submit four (4) candidatures (2 candidatures for regulargeneral/senior scholar programmes, and another 2 candidates from thé TeacherTraining Institutions supported by UNESCO-CFIT Porject). Among thé four submittedcandidatures, two must be women.

Hard copies of applications documents are no longer required and it is mandatory foreach nominated candidate to submit his/her application in thé online application System.Thé corresponding Sériai Number of online applications should be indicated when thécandidatures are submitted to UNESCO.

Candidates who do not fulfil thé requirement mentioned above, or submitincomplète application or submit documents after thé deadline will lose theireligibility in thé sélection.

E. SELECTION 0F BENEFICIARIES

UNESCO and thé Chinese authorities will sélect thé seventy-five (75) most qualifiedcandidates. Thé National Commissions for UNESCO of thé beneficiaries will be dulyinformed by UNESCO.

Candidates who do not receive thé result of their application by 15 August 2019 shouldconsider that their applications are rejected.

F. FACILITIES OFFERED BY THE GOVERNMENT 0F THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC0F CHINA

(i) Tuition waiver,(ii) Monthly stipends: CNY 3 000 (three thousand Chinese yuan) for Général

Scholars, or CNY 3 500 (three thousand five hundred Chinese yuan) for SeniorScholars to cover méats and pocket expense;

(iii) Accommodation**: free university dormitory or accommodation subsidy;

**lf thé host university requires students to live on campus, thé university willaccommodate scholarship students in university dormitory (usually twin room);if thé host university permits thé students to live off-campus, thé university willprovide monthly or quarterly accommodation subsidy as standard stipulatedbelow:

Général scholars: CNY 700 per month;

Senior scholars: CNY 1000 per month.(iv) Comprehensive Médical Insurance*** and Protection Scheme for International

Students in China.

***Fellows will need to cover a certain percentage of personal expenses.Fellows should carefully refer to thé policy terms and conditions provided by théinsurance company when claiming for compensations. In most cases, théinsurance company will request relevant documents and invoices. Any daimswithout eligible proofs witl be rejected.

G. FACILITIES OFFERED BY UNESCO

(i) one round trip international travel to and from China;(ii) monthly pocket allowance of US$ 80 (eighty US dollars), and(iii) a termination allowance of US$ 200 (two hundred US dollars) to cover excess

luggage charges at time of return to home country.

IMPORTANT: No allowance will be granted for financing or lodging any spouse ordépendent of thé fellows.

H. VISA

Ail fellows must obtain their visa from thé Chinese Embassy or Consulate in theircountry before their departure to China. As it requires at least three weeks for thédiplomatie missions to process visa application, fellows are advised to start their visaapplication as soon as they receive their award.

UNESCO and thé Government of thé People's Republic of China provide no allowanceto defray passport and visa expenses. Selected beneficiaries will hâve to secure theirown visas themselves.

NOTE: National authorities hâve thé responsibility to ensure that ail candidates are dulyinformed of ail thèse terms and conditions before they submit their applications.
