Page 2: Chilwell Primary School No. 2061chilwellps.vic.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/... · 2016-06-15 · June for Chilwell Students 3-4 Way Interview Day. Parents can collect students

Dear Families, 3-Way Interviews: Next week our students are looking forward to

discussing their learning with both their teacher and parents. At Chilwell we all take responsibility for the learning that takes place. Staff have completed reports which go home on Friday. Please read these prior to the interview and bring them. If you require time without your child present please inform staff as you begin the interview so that time may be allocated.

Sentral: This is the only way parents can arrange a time

to meet with your child and teacher. Times must be booked through the Sentral link on the school website - http://chilwellps.vic.edu.au/parent-information/sentral/ This site closes this Sunday at 10 pm.

Wednesday - Interview day. Children will attend school with their parents

on this day at the time "booked". If your child is attending care on that day please pick them up from the Multi-Purpose Room before the scheduled time. The interviews only run smoothly if everyone is on time and sticks to the allotted time. Before and After School care will operate as normal. This will be financially supported by child care benefit refunds. The care during the day does not attract financial support but is very reasonable at $35 per child.

Debating: Along with many parents and students I attended one of the two

debates involving our teams. All who attended could not help but be impressed with the way our children conducted themselves and debated the issues. The results were mixed, one win one second and two best speaker awards. Both debates were away from Chilwell. When a debate is at Chilwell I encourage all to come along and be impressed!! Thank you to Miss O and Jason Cole who have guided these students in the debating.

Mr McCumber: Scott has taken Long Service leave and is presently sunny

himself in a warmer environment for the next two weeks. We look forward to his return next term and wish him well on his leave.

Congratulations: I have a number of our students who need to be

acknowledged and congratulated. Firstly, two of our students, Noah Pitout and Joshua Brooks were selected

to represent Geelong in the CLFA Country Championships (Soccer) taking place in Bendigo over the Queen’s Birthday weekend. The Geelong team finishing 3rd. A very good result. Well done boys!

Page 3: Chilwell Primary School No. 2061chilwellps.vic.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/... · 2016-06-15 · June for Chilwell Students 3-4 Way Interview Day. Parents can collect students

Secondly, we sent 4 students to the Western District Level of the cross country competition. This is a very high level and to have 4 competitors is very impressive. The State level will be the next challenge for the 3 who have made it through. We wish Mia Kemp, Michael Rudd and Hugh Haebich all the best at the State competition. Although not going through to this level we congratulate Seb Dell’Oro on his achievements. Seb just missed the cut off.

Out of School Hours Care Accounts: Thank you to all the families who

currently have their accounts in the positive. As the term draws to an end we need ALL accounts to be zero or positive. Please help us with this request; your support enables our school to provide the service. Accounts that remain outstanding force us to withdraw the service.

Life Education: This program has once again begun in our school. We welcome back Gaye, the program teacher to Chilwell. A timetable for the program was provided in last week’s newsletter with a synopsis of the aims of Life Education.

Lightning Premiership: Today we sent two teams to compete at the next

level of competition. All the best to our football and Girl’s netball. We know they will compete hard, support one another and demonstrate great sportsmanship.

Birthdays. Happy birthday to the following students who celebrate their

birthday next week.

Regards, Gavan Welsh, Principal

As the cold winter nights are coming we are asking Chilwell families to help poor cats and dogs in need of warmth. We are asking you to bring in any unwanted blankets, towels or sheets. If you happen to be cleaning out your cupboards this winter and you come across any of these items, please bring them into your classroom for collection. Please note we do not accept pillows, doonas or any type of bedding that contain stuffing. The collection will finish at the end of the term. On behalf of GAWS (Geelong Animal Welfare Society) and the Social Service committee, thank you.

Parent-Teacher-Student Meetings Wednesday 22nd June, 2016

All Interviews will be 15 minutes in duration. Please respect this time.

Dear Parents & Carers, It’s approaching that time of the year where our staff want to catch up with you and your children want to show off and celebrate their achievements. Sentral will be used again to book times as we did with the initial meetings earlier this year. This time our students will be taking a major part in communicating their report and results and next stages of learning. Sentral opened on 7th June for you to book in a time to discuss your child’s progress with the teacher. This is also a time to listen to some of the achievements presented by your child. While we dedicated Wednesday 22nd June as the ‘Interview Day’, we understand some parents will not be able to attend and each teacher has opened up other times that may suit. Please see individual classroom teachers’ times when you login to Sentral. TIMELINE: Please respect this timeline • NOW – update your email details with the office staff – essential for your

booking • Tuesday June 7th @ 5pm – Sentral opened for parent bookings via the

• Sunday 19th June @ 10pm – Sentral closes – NO MORE BOOKINGS AVAILABLE AFTER 10PM! (Staff will access their bookings after this time so please stick to the timelines!)

• Interviews commence as per bookings. We have tried to create a simple process for you to follow and minimize disruptions in the office. Go to the Parent Portal at http://chilwellps.vic.edu.au/parent-information/sentral/ click on the logo and follow the prompts. We will set up Skoolbag with reminders too but please be prompt with your bookings and not leave it until the last minute! Congratulations Chilwell Knitters! This term we made a scarf for the National Wool Museum Scarf Festival. We chose the Myths & Legends theme of ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’. With kind guidance from Penny Williams and Jenny Colquhoun, students from all levels, designed, drew, stitched and created our very unique scarf. We submitted it to the Festival and we were thrilled to find out that we had won the Primary School Category. We won $100 which we have already invested in knitting needles and wool. The scarf is on display until September at The Wool Museum. Next term we will be knitting and crocheting wool to ‘Yarn Bomb’ our school trees. At this stage it will be held on Wednesday lunchtimes and we welcome anyone from our community, especially Grandparents to come and pass on their knitting knowledge. Please see Deb Fisher if you need more details.

Dear Parents, On the Federal Election Day – Saturday, 2nd July,2016 - Chilwell PS will be used as a polling booth. We wish to keep it as simple and easy as possible eg. sausages, bread, tomato sauce, onions, cold drinks. The BBQ would run from 8.00am. to 1.00 pm.
