Our Mission

Children’s Services of Roxbury’s

(CSR) mission is to provide high

quality services to economically

disadvantaged children, youth,

families, and individuals there-

by promoting and strengthening

family life and individual growth.

Core Values

We serve with humility and treat

those we serve with dignity and

respect. We act with compassion

and patience, empathizing without

judgement. We operate with

integrity, knowing that the families

we serve need us to be true to our

word and we strive for excellence

in everything we do.

President & CEO Children’s Services of Roxbury

ince arriving at Children’s Services of Roxbury (CSR) in 2015, I cannot count the number times I have been asked: What makes CSR different than other service providers? What makes CSR special?

The answer is simple and always the same: People.

People are what make Children’s Services of Roxbury special.

The 6,000 families that are served across Massachusetts each year and the 400 staff members who serve them. Extraordinary people. Resilient, hopeful, committed people.

It is an honor to represent the legacy created by our organization’s founders, Reverend Richard Richardson and his wife of 67 years, Jestina Richardson. They are true stalwarts in the field of child welfare and distinguished champions of charity. We are grateful for their leadership and I am thankful to advance their vision.

Built by the benevolence of the Richardson’s, CSR has a long-standing heritage of commitment to quality, care and community. These are attributes that have served us well through nearly 50 years of growth, and they will continue to serve us in the future.

A colleague once noted, “CSR is well known but not known well.” With twenty-two programs, offices in four cities across the Commonwealth – often people cannot appreciate the depth and breadth of the programs we offer. The scope of services and the positive impact they have on the lives of so many, deserves to be celebrated. I am compelled to shine the brightest light possible on who we are and what we do.

More than just awareness, I want to share with the world why what we do is so import-ant…why what we do matters. It’s about nurturing. It’s about growth. It’s about healing. It’s about community. As I think about these reasons, one unifying theme resonates above all. Regardless of how or why a family walks through our doors…regardless of which program they choose…ultimately, it’s about Peace of Mind.

When a parent leaves their child in our daycare so they can go to work or school, we take pride in their peace of mind.

When a child is placed in a loving foster home, often the first in their life time they have felt truly safe, we take pride in their peace of mind.

When a child recovers from trauma and can build new trusting relationships, we take pride in their peace of mind.

When a family receives shelter, less burdened by the weight of homelessness, we take pride in their peace of mind.

That is what it’s about. CSR believes in a world where there is power in helping others. CSR believes in a world where there is power in helping ourselves. Our history is undeniable. Our service is proven.

To every donor, community partner, staff member and volunteer, thank you for all your contributions, efforts and sacrifices. Your hard work succeeded in making 2017 a truly remarkable year.

Wishing upon you and your families blessings, good fortune and health, today and every day.

With Gratitude.

families recieved intensive services to prevent child neglect or abuse (2017)

CSR believes that every effort should be made

to build on the strength of the natural family

system. Our goal is to find both short-term and

long-term placements for at-risk children and

youth with broad ranges of emotional, physical

and developmental needs. The Foster Care &

Family Stabilization programs at CSR are excep-

tional due to a commitment to supporting per-

manency through child-centered, family-focused

interventions.

services and helping families establish strong

foundations for success. Our childcare services

are designed to meet the needs of families in our

nicity and language are diverse and varied. We

believe that educating children is a team effort,

with teachers and parents working together in

partnership.

Housing & Stabilization

CSR has developed superior expertise in address-

ing the needs of individuals and families who are

homeless. To reduce homelessness and decrease

the length of stay in shelters for all participants,

9

It’s about GROWTH

CSR works because they have the experience within the community and they work with the families directly. They come into the home, and they find out what the family’s needs are and in whatever way possible, they make sure that the needs are met so that the family can have an opportunity to thrive.

Behavioral Health

CSR provides a full range of preventive and

therapeutic clinical services which are individual-

ized. Our clinical and support staff are culturally

competent and reflect the diversity of the com-

munities we serve. Our behavioral health depart-

ment embodies a comprehensive “wraparound”

model of support to families. Wraparound sets

the family at the center of the planning and

implementation process and brings together a

team that celebrates the family’s resiliency and

strengths.

11

It’s about HEALING

Life is better with CSR because our mental health is better, myself, the children. If your mind is stronger, you’re able to do more, you’re able to help yourselves.
