Children and Conference SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITY The 2016 Children and Nature Conference 2016 will be held on 28 August 2016 at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle – By Rydges. Nature Play WA will present some of the world’s pre-eminent speakers on the impact of nature on children’s health, development and education at a one-day conference in Fremantle in August 2016. The Children and Nature Conference brings together leaders in paediatric immunology, public health policy, nature-based education, and nature philanthropy and political engagement. Attendees will gain new insights into the connection between nature and positive childhood outcomes, and learn practical ways to engage the corporate and political sectors to back the global movement to re-connect children to the natural world. The conference is the first event of its kind held in Western Australia and follows from the pioneering work done by Nature Play WA that has been embraced nationally and internationally. SPEAKERS

Professor Susan Prescott Professor Prescott is internationally recognised as one of the leading researchers in the area of allergy and early immune development and the author of The Allergy Epidemic, a mystery of modern life; and, Origins, early-life solutions to the modern health crisis.Her studies on early immune development have already been translated into novel concepts and lead to a paradigm shift in the pathogenesis of allergic disease. She is also chair and co-founder of the ‘DOHaD Consortium’ (Developmental Origins of Health and Disease) in Western Australia, and is leading the establishment of a regional ‘DOHaD’ Society in Australia and New Zealand.She has held a prestigious NHMRC Practitioner Fellowship since 2008. In addition to her clinical practice in the Department of Immunology at the Children’s Hospital in Perth, and her academic role at UWA, she leads the Children’s Allergy and Immunology Research (CAIR) Group at the School of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Western Australia.

Dr Alan Logan Dr Logan is a Canadian researcher, naturopathic doctor, consulting science writer and member of the Harvard Natural Environments Initiative with a key focus on the health impacts of urbanization and bio-diversity loss. He is also the author of two pioneering books on connection between human health and the natural world, The Brain Diet (2007); and Your Brain on Nature, the science of nature’s influence on your health, happiness, and vitality (2012).Dr Logan is an independent researcher, industry-academic liaison and consulting science writer, and is among the first contemporary scientists to discuss the connection between friendly microbes and mental health. His Harvard lectures include “Vitamin G: The Medicinal Aspects of Green Space”,and “Exploration of Food and Mood in positive Psychology.”

Professor Lyn Beazley Professor Beazley has dedicated over 30 years to neuroscience, researching recovery from brain injury and changing clinical practice in the treatment of premature infants. As Western Australia’s Chief Scientist from 2006 to 2013, Lyn advised governments on science and innovation, worked closely with industry and was a science ambassador in Australia and internationally. She was also named WA Australian of the Year for 2015.Professor Beazley has been determined to demonstrate that science is not just a theoretical exercise, but a practical one too. She helped establish a nationwide ‘hotline’ for school laboratory technicians, worked for healthier waterways by establishing Dolphin Watch, spearheaded a program supplying microscopes to over 450 primary schools and introduced the international science communication competition Famelab to Australia. Professor Beazley’s goal is for every Australian child to learn and love science.

Ben Klasky Mr Klasky is an educator, a social entrepreneur, and the President and CEO of Islandwood, one of the world’s leading environmental education centres.Headquartered on Bainbridge Island near Seattle, Islandwood is an innovative US non-profit outdoor education organisation, with the core mission of creating meaningful learning experiences for urban children in nature. Established in 2002, Islandwood has won numerous national and international

awards for its programs that connect children from underserved communities around America with the outdoors. Through its Graduate Program Islandwood has also helped thousands of American teachers expand their knowledge and skills in using the environment as a context for teaching and learning.Mr Klasky speaks and writes regularly about the benefits of getting kids exploring and learning outside. He is a regular blogger for Huffington Post and in his role at Islandwood he has been instrumental in engaging an extraordinary level of philanthropic support for the movement to re-connect children to nature through private donors and the corporate sector including Boeing, Microsoft and Disney.

Martin Le Blanc The Senior Vice-President External Affairs with IslandWood, Mr Le Blanc has successfully engaged the political process, all the way to The White House, in creating new opportunities to connect children to nature. A founding Board Member of the Children in Nature Network and a former National Youth Outings Director at the Sierra Club (America’s largest and most influential environmental organisation) Mr Le Blanc is also Vice-President emeritus of the Children and Nature Network and a senior advisor to the Children and Nature Network’s ‘Natural Leaders’ initiative that combines community organising and outdoor leadership certifications that empower the next generation. In his role with the Sierra Club Mr Le Blanc introduced over 200,000 children and teenagers to the outdoors and established non-traditional alliances with military, educational, community groups, and health organisations, and in his role with Islandwood he has worked with the White House on significant programs to connect children to nature including the Every Kid in a Park and Fresh Tracks programs.

Terms and Conditions

The Organiser may postpone or adjust the time of the proposed event. If the Organiser changes the date of the event as specified by this clause, the Sponsor shall be entitled to a full refund of all monies paid to the Organiser if the proposed new date is not deemed convenient by the Sponsor. In the event of non-payment of any monies due pursuant to this agreement or in the event of the breach of any condition on the part of any Sponsor to be observed, then all monies paid will be forfeited and the Sponsor will have no right to the benefits of the package allocated and will have no claim against the Organiser. All Sponsor benefits are conditional on receiving payment, artwork, goods etc. in a timely manner.

CONFIRMATION• To confirm your acceptance, please return the

form on page 11 of this document and specify the package required. A tax invoice for will be forwarded for payment.

• On receipt of payment, a confirmation letter outlining the sponsorship agreement will be sent to you.

• Sponsorship packages are not considered confirmed until full payment of total costs is received.

• Should the payment not be received within 10 days of invoice, the package will be released for re-sale.
