Dear Sisters in DKG,
This afternoon, George and I walked the perim-
eter of our yard to get some fresh air and to look forsigns of spring. I was so surprised to see all of my daf-
fodils up and ready to bloom. What surprised me the
most was seeing my purple hyacinth in full bloom.
Spring is just around the corner!
Our March meeting was the Joint Meeting hosted by Gamma Xi at th
Courtyard by Marriott in Hamilton. Our Chi Chapter was represented by 2
members in attendance! It was a wonderful opportunity to meet other Butle
County teachers and to visit with those you already know. Dr. Norma Kirby
Alpha Delta State President attended the meeting. Everyone enjoyed th
speaker, Jeanne Rolfes who gave an Armchair Virtual tour of Cincinnati Land
marks. Next March, Chi will host the Joint Meeting for Gamma Xi.The 75th Anniversary of Alpha Delta State will be celebrated at th
State Convention at Hilton Columbus at Easton from April 12 14th. We hav
three members who will be going up on Friday for the weekend. Some mem
bers will be driving up in one car (maybe two) to attend the convention on Sat
urday. There is still time to get your reservations in for this special celebratio
of Alpha Delta State. I am so proud of our Chi Chapter for collecting over 40
books for the Literacy Project. Children at five Ohio Children Hospitals wi
benefit from your generosity.
We will meet April 11th at Miami University-Hamilton. Bill Deitzer wi
give a PowerPoint presentation on Why the Great Smoky Mountains Nationa
Park is Like No Other Park. This sounds like an interesting program. Pleasask any prospective members to join us for a fun evening with our Chi Sisters.
If you have any prospective members you would like to ask to join ou
Chi Chapter, you will find the application form online. See directions insid
newsletter for printing the form. Our Chi Chapter is truly a group of amazin
women. We continue to grow in membership and friendship!
Looking forward to seeing all of you at our April 11 th meeting.
Yours Truly in Delta Kappa Gamma,
Sydney

Did You Know?
Delta Kappa Gamma's World Fellowship
Program began in 1946 at the National Conven-tion in San Francisco. It was established to help
women in war torn countries. In 1948, with finan-
cial help from Delta Kappa Gamma, four German
women educators, spent eight weeks of study and
visitation in Sweden. Then in 1952, the World Fel-
lowship Program began an alliance with UNESCO
to provide special help for Korean women. From
1958 to 1960 an agreement was made with the In-
stitute of International Education or IIE. It pro-
vides dossiers where a Delta Kappa Gam-
ma committee selects its recipients for study here
in the U.S. In 1972, World Fellowship became astanding committee and in 1974 became a part
of Delta Kappa Gamma's Constitution. Today, Chi
chapter and many others continue to support these
women world wide. Now You Know!
Editors note: Marilyn McKnight will be providing
informative articles monthly under this umbrella
of topics. Thanks, Marilyn, for keeping us in-

The December meeting of Delta Kappa Gamma was held at the Hanover Community Center on Decem-
ber 4, 2012. Betty Collins gave the invocation and dinner was served. We enjoyed a meal of salads and holiday
cookies. President Sydney Baker thanked the December hostess committee which Lynda Combs chaired. Our
guests were acknowledged: Brenda Conley, Lois Cropenbaker, and Bev Dees.
The minutes from November were printed in our newsletter. Sue Samoviski made a motion to accept the

card was sent to Miriam Kramer on the birth of her granddaughter, and thinking of you notes were sent to Ka-
ren Reddin and Liz Johnston.
President Sydney Baker reported on the 75th Anniversary activities planned for Alpha Delta State Con-
vention. Books were collected at the meeting to help with the book project. The books we collect at our chapter
need to be in by March first so that they will know how many name plates to order. Books will be given by Al-
pha Delta State to five children's hospitals around Ohio. An envelope was sent around for donations so that
they can be purchased for our chapter. There is also a contest for designing the program book cover for the con-
vention. Those with artistic abilities will want to enter.
Lynda Combs read over the remainder of the revised chapter rules: Article VIII - Committees, Sections A
-C, Article IX - Meetings, Article X - Parliamentary Authority, Article XI - Amendments, and Article XII - Disso-
lution.

detergent and collected $1,248. We were encouraged to purchase laundry detergent when it is on sale to get the
most for our money.
Rita Francis reported on Ice Fest which will be January 18 and 19. The theme is Landmarks of the
World. The bricks purchased will be part of The Great Wall of Hamilton. The bricks will be $30. We will pur-
chase one for this year as we did the last Ice Fest.
Lynda Combs reported on Schools for Africa, State's International Project. Our chapter has collected
$155.82, which shows our commitment to this project. An envelope was sent around for donations.
Cindy Grantz reported that Book Club will be having their December meeting at The Wine Guy instead

BOOK CLUBBook Club continued meeting during
our chapters off months. Neither rain, snow,
sleet or good sense kept us off the roads and
away from our commitment to eat at a differ-ent restaurant each month!
On Jan. 21st we met at T-Birds in
Trenton and discussed The Language of
Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh. This took
place the day of the numerous pile-ups dur-
ing the sudden white out. The food was warm
and delicious, and we discussed how even if
we did not particularly like a character, we
could still have that feeling of not wanting to
put the book down.
On Feb. 18th we met at First Watch in
West Chester to discuss One Thousand White
Women byJim Fergus. This book was unusu-
al in that it began with a true idea from his-
tory, but then took off in the opposite direc-
tion. First Watch was lovely.
On March 18th, we met at the Coach
House at Berkley Square to discuss Angry
Housewives Eating Bon Bons, a selection by
Lorna Ladvik. This story was about a group
of women who bonded over years of meeting
monthly for a book club. Very appropriate for
our group.
Future Selections:
April: Paris Wife by Paula McClain at Kidd
Coffee in Fairfield.
May: Inn at Rose Harbor by Debbie Macomb-
er at SmoQ
June: Homefront by Kristin Hannah at Casa
Bianca
July: And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled
Hossein at Papa Luigis.
Please join us anytime!
Terri Chatfield shares dessert at Dec. meeting!
