G reeting Gamma Chi Members;
I cannot believe that the summer is almost over; here’s
to hoping yours was a blast!!
I would personally like to take this time to thank all of you for
your time, your loaned talents
and your shared expertise that
you have so unselfishly given
to Gamma Chi Chapter. With a
Chapter as busy as Gamma Chi
in providing “Service for Hu-
manity”, we didn’t stop be-
cause it was summer. Your
active participation in the
Chapter’s programs this sum-
mer will not soon be forgotten
and was very much appreciat-
ed.
We have plenty of work to do over the next several months.
Ideas, input and enthusiasm is greatly needed from all mem-
bers as we embark on our 2016- 2017 Sorority Year. We will
need all hands on deck as we continue to plan for the upcom-
ing Southeast Regional Conference to be hosted by Gamma
Chi, our Nurse Week Scholarship Luncheon, our annual
Health Fair and all of our other programs and projects.
Special thanks for all of you that have made this journey
easy. I can’t thank you enough. Your loyalty, dedication and
commitment has not gone unnoticed.

This article on parliamentary procedure is written for publication in the National quarterly Newsletter of XYZ Society for distribution to
all (1200) members.
Protecting Basic Rights of Members of an Organization
Rules that embody fundamental principles of parliamentary law that have evolved through centuries
of experience, have been devised to help members and leaders of organizations achieve action in
meetings in a manner that is both business-like, and considerate of the rights of each member. Once
an individual has met the membership requirements and been accepted or inducted as a member of
and organization, all rights and privileges of membership must be protected and afforded the individu-
al.
Although other membership rights and
privileges may exist or be established by
an organization, the basic rights include:
(1) the right to attend organizational
meetings, (2) the right to make motions
in business meetings of the organiza-
tion, (3) the right to speak during de-
bate of a motion in a business meeting,
and (4) the right to vote when any vote
is taken in a meeting of the organiza-
tion. Organizations may establish rules placing limits on all members, however the rules of an organi-
zation can not be suspended, even by unanimous consent or vote, so as to deny any particular mem-
ber these rights.
There are Privileged, Subsidiary, and Incidental motions that impact the rights of members.
However the motions such as, The Previous Question, Limit or Extend the Limits of Debate, which
have direct impact on the rights of members, require a two-thirds vote of the assembly for such action
to be enforced. The chair of an assembly has the responsibility to see that the rights of members are
protected, and each member is treated equally during any meeting.

held on July 16, 2016, in Piedmont Park Atlan-
ta. Gamma Chi’s presence was noted through-

Sorors assisted with the Mobile Breast Clinic.
The goal of the Mobile Breast Clinic is to help
address the lack of breast cancer care available
across parts of Georgia by providing timely and
adequate diagnosis and treatment. It provides
screening, diagnostic services, treatment refer-
rals, education and access to clinical trial to
medically underserved and uninsured men and
women in rural and urban areas. It is one of
the first of its kind in Georgia, and among the
first in the nation.
Dr. Rogebert Philips-Reed, Founder, came
aboard and commented on the vision, mission,
and the services available with breast specialist
delivering and directing full-service on site. It
is estimated that a single mobile clinic will per-
form over 3,000 screening exams
each year. She was joined by Dr.
Yara Robertson.
Sorors Patricia Mc Queen and
Mary Walker guided over 100
participants through the mobile
unit. Education included the
ABC’s of Breast Health. There were 30 breast
