NEW DELHI: On 16th October 2012, Arvind Kejriwal questioned the transfer of a senior Haryana IAS officer alleging that he was shunted out because he ordered a probe into land deals allegedly involving Robert Vadra and realty major DLF.

A 1991-batch officer, Ashok Khemka, the Director-General of Land Consolidation and Land Records-cum-Inspector General of Registration in Haryana, was transfered out of the post within three months of assuming charge. He had ordered the probe three days back on land deals in Gurgaon, Faridabad, Palwal and Mewat since 2005.

“Haryana Chief Minister ought to answer to the country why has Khemka been transferred. What is transfer policy for IAS officers in Haryana? Under that policy,

can officer be transferred merely because he was investigating Vadra?

“Ashok Khemka transferred by Haryana Govt because he was probing Vadra’s land deals in Haryana. We strongly criticize that,” Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal alleged Khemka “upfronted a deal” that was to happen between Vadra and DLF and ordered its cancellation.

Khemka has written a letter to Haryana Chief Secretary complaining about his transfer.

However, he refused to divulge the content saying it was a represen-tation given to the Chief Secretary but added that he was “anguished” and “suffering” due to 40 transfers in 21 years of service.

“If these problems are brought in sunshine, probably my decisions would appear to be normal and correct. But what happens

is, inside, you are guided and directed to behave differently.

“If you do take an action which you call strong but I would call as correct, and then action is taken against you, it’s very demoralis-ing, dehumanising and you feel ashamed of yourself that look, there must be something wrong with you that these things are happening.

“You get words like ‘you don’t get along well with others, ‘there are shades of grey in life’ etc. These kinds of euphemism are created to deviate you from the correct path,” Khemka told a news channel.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the Chief Secretary will look into Khemka’s complaint. “As far as the Haryana government is concerned, we have not made out undue favour to anybody.

Cuba has widened its doors for travelling abroad for all its citizens more than any other time in 50 years as a result of migration reforms announced on Tuesday. According to the new government policy, most islanders will no longer require an exit visa or a letter of invitation to leave the country, raising the prospect of increased travel to the United States and elsewhere.

However, there will continue to be restrictions on certain sectors of society, including doctors, scientists and members of the military, in an effort to prevent a brain drain of personnel who have benefited most from Cuba’s highly regarded state education and health systems.

The major shift in migration policy follows economic and social reforms by the president, Raúl Castro, that loosen controls on

sales of private property, mobile phone ownership and hotel stays and aim to make the island more attractive to foreign investors.

The exit visa system dates back to 1961, when the government tightened border controls to stem a flood of migrants amid tensions with the US and unease among some sectors of society about the 1959 revolution that put Fidel Castro in power.

Its abolition – which will come into effect before 14 January – is likely to be popular because it will save

time and money for tourists and those who want to work overseas or visit relatives among the large diaspora in the US.

The change – which was promised by Raúl Castro when he became president in 2008 – was announced by the Communist party newspaper Granma.

There are thought to be more than a million Cubans in the US, which has a longstanding policy of granting citizenship to almost all migrants from the island, on which Washington has imposed an economic embargo.

Under the new system, travellers should only need a passport and a visa from the country they intend to visit. But government critics said controls on the movement of dissidents were likely to continue, through denials of passports and other restrictions.

Most of the young generation have huge spending power from Rs 150 a day to 300. This is usually spent on burgers, pastas and all kinds of junk food and mostly on things that are harmful for the health but nowadays it is a new upcoming trend. But while it used to be really cool to hang out in places like Mc Donalds and Pizza Hut, but most of the students think that they belong to high class people.

A lot has undeniably changed since the turn of the 20th century. Students no longer like hanging out in malls or discotheques. They now prefer places where they can sit with their friends and can have a fun time.

A PUC arts student of Mount Carmel College, loves hanging out at joints on M G Road and St Mark’s Road. She says that she spends an average Rs 300 a day on food at these places. She says that places like these are really cheap to hangout at and reasonable so all her friends prefer these places when compared to malls.

Students say that they prefer “reasonable joints” but when it comes to weekends or some special occasions they asks for some more money to hangout at places like ebony, couch, khansama etc. Almost all the places where they like to hangout on weekends include restaurants in brigade and M.G Road. Students say that they prefer cool joints

with great environment.

But there are some students who love to try out new places and experiment new dishes. They say that they just don’t prefer places looking at the cool factor. Students also say that these places are fabulous with awesome quality of food and easy on their pockets.

There is a place called Claytopia in Indiranagar, which is really popular among young students. The menu is pretty ordinary. But what is really special about that place is that one could paint on the clay product available.

Students say that they prefer good and hygienic food points no matter if they have to spend some extra bucks for it because road side food is cheap but can make their health deteriorate and students today are more health conscious compared to the students earlier who preferred saving money by eating road side food.

But when they really want to hit the town, how they decide? The answer is “Depending on the size of their pockets”. They prefer expensive places when they go out with their family.

A survey conducted across the city revealed that many restaurants have good lunch buffets for the population of Bangalore, be it working or younger crowd. Bangalore really knows how to spoil its population by increasing the number of eating and hanging out joints this also helps in spreading the students in more areas than before.

A PLACE FOR ALL

Does Facebook have a positive or negative effect on students? Oh, if only the issue were so clear-cut!

Most recently, OnlineEducation.net, an online database designed to inform current and prospective students about education opportu-nities in the U.S., compiled a mound of research data on college students and their use of social media.

On analyzing it, the group could only conclude that the results were inconclusive and mixed. Thus, the debate roils on.

None of this is earth-shattering. If a student in the throes of cramming for finals is distracted every few minutes by the urge to check Facebook status updates involving friends’ day-to-day dating sagas and roommate skirmishes, it only makes sense that the student will be less engaged in learning, absorb less knowledge and likely score lower on the big test.

Yet, the same results might be seen for students who get up every few minutes to grab a snack, watch TV

or incessantly pick up the phone to text or call friends while studying.

However, if the student is using Facebook to propel his or her knowledge, for example,

by participating in a Facebook group created by a professor for students of a particular class, than the social network may have a positive influence on education and spark the student’s interest in learning certain subject matter.

For instance, in such a space

professors and students can participate in the sharing of knowledge, by posting articles (and responses to

them), speaker events, lectures and personal experiences involving

topics related to the course. When this happens, Facebook can be a boon to education, actively engaging students in the pursuit of knowledge. Yet, as All Facebook recently reported, teachers are in-creasingly discouraged (for good reason) from accepting students’ friend requests.

An important benefit seen in the statistics above is the ability of Facebook to make college students feel socially connected, with a greater sense of community. This can be beneficial in boosting students’ self-esteem. Past studies have shown that students who are active on Facebook are more likely to participate in extra-curricular activities.

But, as we have also seen in the news, social media can also have a negative effect on emotional health when abused by cyberbullies who harass and torment peers.

Also, as AllFacebook reported, one study found that students with the most friends on Facebook feel more health-harming stress. Thus, students should be warned to not put too much stock in the social network. At the end of the day, students, as all people, of course, are more than the sum of their social network.

Ultimately, like with anything, how social media affects students may come down to how it is used and the frequency with which it is used.

KEY SURVEY FINDINGS INCLUDE:• 96 percent of college students use Facebook;

• Grades of students who checked Facebook while studying were 20% lower than grades of those who didn’t check Facebook while studying;

• 79 percent of students did not believe that multitasking in the way mentioned above negatively affected their grades;

• 20 percent of students that use social media reported feeling connected to their institution;

• 75 percent of college students reported wanting to collaborate online.

The Hindu festival of Navratri, which literally means ‘nine nights’, has marked its beginning from 16th October 2012. This festival is celebrated twice a year, in the month of March- April, which is known as Chaitra Navratri puja. The other Navratri Puja is held in October-November, which is known as Durga Puja and is regarded as the major festival of India. This festival symbolizes the triumph of peace over evil forces and Goddess Durga as the epitome of love, sacrifice and positive energy. People devote their time intensely in religious activities and worship Goddess Durga in several forms. The idea behind Navratri is the time for cleansing our own evil characteristics like hatred,

jealousy, ignorance, anger, greed, violence, etc. inside and outside of us. It is important to understand that each of the negative human qualities exists in the form of demons, externally in the invisible sphere.

The puja is the highest degree of respect bestowed to Goddess by the people. People have immense faith in Goddess Durga and involve themselves with utmost commitment to complete the puja. The procedure for the puja is indeed a complex process which requires ultimate dedication for the Goddess herself. In the West, the divine feminine is referred to as Goddess, but in East, she is referred to as Shakti, or Power. Shakti is the movable, creative aspect of the Archetypal being.

She is your own consciousness as well as the Supreme Conscious-ness.A brief procedure to do the puja and worship the Goddess is mentioned below.

The puja is carried for nine consecutive days by people in which they establish mantapas for keeping idol or picture of Goddess Durga. Various religious rituals are performed within the span of nine days where people worship nine different forms of Goddess Durga. Moreover, People abstain themselves from alcohol or any kind of non-vegetarian food items during this period, chant mantras and live their life in an ascetic way. The puja also includes fasting for nine continuous days in which people rely on fruits and juices and refrain from other edible items.

A kalash is imperatively installed along with the Goddess idol which consists of flowers, coconut and other significant things. This kalash occupies a very pious place in the whole procedure and is of substantial importance in the puja. Last day of the puja will falls on 24th October 2012. This day is marked by Ravan Vadh and is known as Vijaydashmi. The day also emphasizes the victory of truth over sinister forces and embarks a journey of peace and prosperity.

THE AUSPICIOUS NINE NIGHTS

Saif and Kareena’s marriage registered!By Navni

Bollywood star couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor tied the knot here in a quiet affair after a five-year courtship. Saif, 42, son of late Nawab of Pataudi and former Indian cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and actress Sharmila Tagore, sealed his relationship with Kareena, 32, at his residence in suburban Bandra through a registered marriage.

"It was a registered marriage with three witnesses – Kareena's father Randhir Kapoor, her mother Babita and Saif's mother Sharmila," marriage Registrar Surekha Ramesh said.

The couple had officially declared their intention to tie the knot in the beginning of 2012 after the release of their film 'Agent Vinod' in March.

Randhir and his elder daughter

Karisma later waved to the waiting fans and media from the balcony of the house.

Kareena wore a green salwar-kur-ta with a heavy embellished red dupatta wrapped around her. She teamed it up with minimal jewelry, red bangles and left her hair open.

Saif, simply dressed in a grey kurta and white pajamas, came out with his new wife to greet fans from his balcony.

There is a buzz that a reception will be held tomorrow at a city hotel. This will be followed by another reception in Delhi on October 18 and a ceremony at Saif's ancestral Pataudi Palace in Haryana.

Although Saif and Kareena had maintained silence on their much awaited wedding, it was Saif's mother Sharmila who came out with the October wedding date.
