Cherry Creek View“It’s A Grand Old Flag”

Did you notice the Flags flanking either side of the front entrance and all around the neighborhood? These were provided by the Bowie High School Band. The Bowie Band fundraiser drive is in July for flag subscriptions however you still can sign up for this great service. For a $40 donation to the band a flag is planted in your front yard at dawn and harvested at dusk. The band booster committee members will put a flag holder in your front yard then post and remove the flag on 7 holidays during the year.

Although they are not officially offering subscriptions right now you can contact a band member in the neighborhood or any band member you know that you would like to receive credit for this wonderful service. If you do not know a band member just drop a note at the front entrance and we will send you the information you need.

Box Tops for Education SAVE ME!Have you seen these in your kitchen and wondered what to do

with them? Here is the answer. Clip them off the package and put them in the dropbox at the front entrance marquee! They will then be donated to our local schools to provide much needed money. Each box top is worth ten cents to a neighborhood school. It may not sound like much but if the whole neighborhood saves them, it could add up to big money.

Here is a brief history of the Box Top$ program.•2005 - Box Tops has now helped our nation’s schools earn over

$130 million and includes over 86,000 participating schools. For the first time ever, the program expands to include brands outside of General Mills

•2006 - 10 Years. Over $175 million donations. More than 95,000 Box Tops schools. Box Tops continues its tradition of making a difference for more schools... and more kids... year after year.

Box Top$ are collected ALL YEAR LONG,

so start clipping and keep clipping!

You Make Us Look Good! A neatly landscaped and well-cared-for yard says a great deal about the homeowner and the entire neighborhood. It says we take pride in our property and in our neighborhood. Well-landscaped properties add to our home values as well. If there is a home in Cherry Creek that you would like to nominate for Yard of the Month, please email your suggestion to [email protected] or leave your written Yard of the Month address nomination in the front entrance drop box. There is no Yard of the Month during the winter months, December through March.

Austin Stage 2 Water RestrictionsYikes.. Austin is in Stage 2 Water Restrictions.

Today, Oct 6, 2011, the Austin360 posted all the particulars. In case you missed the article, here you go.

First off, these restrictions are in effect NOW.One day Watering only!

•Automatic irrigation systems before 10:00a.m. •Hose end sprinklers and soakers before 10a.m. and after 7:00p.m. •One day Watering Schedule•Res iden t i a l – odd Aus t in addre s s e s – Sa tu rday

Residential – even Austin addresses – Sunday•Commercial, Multi-Family – odd addresses – Tuesday

Commercial, Multi-Family – even addresses – Friday

The city of Austin is asking us to self police by reporting violations to 3-1-1. The following restrictions are also

included in the Stage 2 Water restrictions:•Residential car washing only on your designated day and time

according to your address. •NO charity washes. •No washing driveways, sidewalks, parking areas.. or other paved

areas unless to alleviate health or safety hazards. •Golf fairways are limited to designated days/times. •Water is not to be served at our local restaurants unless requested. •No outdoor fountains except to provide for aeration for aquatic life. •No automatic fill valves for ponds and pools.

You can get more info at WaterWiseAustin.org. In fact we strongly suggest you go to their website and read the regulations in case we reported any inaccuracies..

And by the way.. violating the Austin Water Restrictions is a class C misdemeanor that carries a fine of $475. But, hey.. how about we adhere to the rules just because we want to be good stewards of the land?

Watering Your FoundationWatering your foundation in dry months is something you should

do no matter where in the country you live. In the City of Austin we find that to be very true. The pockets of clay found around the city really do a number on foundations. Keep that clay moist will help keep your foundation exactly where it was built.

Many people don’t realize that soil expands when it gets wet. Some soils more than others, but adding water to any soil makes it expand. When the weather is dry like it is in Austin the soil tends to deflate. Allowing for homes and building to drop in elevation. This is why watering your foundation is so important.

Things to remember about watering your foundationMore is not always better. Too much water on one side of the

house could cause problems. Watering your foundation is all about equal amounts all around the house. I typically start on the side of the house that has my AC condenser. Most people don’t realize that the AC unit puts out about 5 gallons of water a day. This area is going to be well watered. That is why I start with that side. Matching the moisture level all the way around the house keeps me on the level.

Keeping Children Safe on Holiday Road TripsAs millions of families prepare for their

annual holiday road trips, Texans In Motion at Scott & White Healthcare would like to encourage parents and caregivers to keep safety in mind as they travel. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that three out of four car seats are improperly installed.

FOLLOWING ARE SOME TIPS TO ENSURE THAT YOURCHILD IS RIDING SAFE:

•ALWAYS Buckle Up no matter if the trip is long or just a quick ride into town.

•Keep your child in the back seat at least through age 12.

•The best car seat is the one that fits your child, vehicle and budget.

•Read car seat and vehicle instruction manuals to ensure proper installation.

•Safety seats should move no more than 1” from the car seat’s belt path.

•Harnesses should be snug with the retainer clip at chest level.

•Booster seats are highly recommended for fourth to seventh graders who are under 4’9 tall and may not fit the adult seat belt.

Keeping these simple tips in mind may not reduce backseat sibling squabbles, but will help increase peace of mind when it comes to your child’s safety.

Texans In Motion is an injury prevention program sponsored by the Trauma Center at Scott & White Healthcare, in cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation. The program serves 11 Central Texas counties and focuses on child passenger safety. Our mission is to increase child passenger safety restraint

use and reduce the number of deaths and injuries to children in motor vehicle crashes through educational programs, activities and check-up events. Staff is certified under part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s National Standardized Child Passenger Safety Training Program.

All services provided by Texans In Motion at Scott & White Healthcare are FREE. For more information about car seats or to find a car seat inspection event in your area, please contact Texans In Motion at Scott & White Healthcare at 512-336-3423 or 512-509-0200 or visit sw.org.
