If you have a look in AATC (American Association of Textile Chemists and Colourists) Buyer’s guide, you can see a list of 2000 chemical ( used by global textile chemical manufacturers ) specialties categorized in over 100 headings for sale, which does not include dyes. The chemicals now produced are highly specific and the manufacturers keep “eco-friendly” in mind always.
We know chemicals are necessary to have certain properties in the final product, like PBDE’s for fire retardants, PFOA’s for stain protection, formaldehyde resins for crease resistance. But these chemicals have been proven to cause genetic mutation in mammals, thus carcinogenic. Do we have any other options? Can we have these effects in our final product without keeping our life at risk?
