    1. PURPOSE- For ensuring that chemicals are not stored, handled, used or disposed in a way that will

    result in product contamination.

    - To avoid purchase of product-contact chemicals that can contaminate product.

    2. SCOPE-This procedure covers product contact and non-product contact chemicals used at

    manufacturing plant.

    4. RESPONSIBILITIESQuality Assurance Manager is responsible for:

    Circulating list of approved suppliers. Communicating any changes of approved suppliers to all users. Ensuring that associates training on proper storage of chemicals is conducted Maintaining all MSDS for all chemicals used at manufacturing plant

    Plant Chemist is responsible for:

    Maintaining incoming inspection records for product contact materials Keeping all COA

    Stores Controller is responsible for:

    Receiving all chemicals from suppliers. Proper storage of auxiliary chemicals and cleaning and sanitation chemicals.

    All HODs are responsible for:

    Ensuring that chemicals received or used in their departments are properly stored,used and disposed.

    Purchasing Officer is responsible for:

    Procuring of all chemicals. Maintaining a list of approved suppliers Ensuring purchase of all product contact chemicals from KO-approved suppliers.

    A Master Chemical List is maintained for all chemicals used and their purpose atmanufacturing plant. The MCL includes sanitation, maintenance,

    ingredients/additives, pesticides and water treatment chemicals.

    MSDS are kept on file for all the chemicals on the MCL. Emergency procedures incase of spillage will be as per instructions on chemical MSDS. Bunding is used for

    controlling chemical spillages at chemical storage areas.

    All chemical storage areas are labeled. Product containers are not allowed to be used for chemicals storage and handling. Storage areas for product contact chemicals are enclosed and lockable. Product

    contact chemicals are not mixed with any other chemicals during storage.

    Receiving and supply of chemicals (product contact and non-product contact) arecontrolled as per Supplier Control PRP, SH-HCP-PR-04. All product contact

    chemicals are accompanied by a COA which must meet KO requirements.

    5.2 Cleaning & Sanitation chemical control

    Only approved cleaning and sanitation chemicals are used for product contactprocessing lines and tanks. Refer to Doc Number approved cleaning and

    sanitation chemicals & suppliers.

    Other non-product contact cleaning chemicals are recommended by supplier assafe to use in a food manufacturing plant as evidenced by MSDS or product

    labels.

    5.3 Additives & Water Treatment chemicals control

    Only approved water treatment chemicals are used for process water treatment.Additives used will be as per Master Mixing Instructions. Refer to

    a. Doc # for approved water treatment chemicals & suppliers.b. Master Mixing Instructions for approved additives and suppliers. MSDS are

    kept on file for each additive

    The chemical dosage are monitored and the following records is kept:c. Water treatment chemicals dosage

    5.5 Pesticide Control.

    - Refer to Pest Control PRP-

    5.4 Agricultural Chemical control

    - Absence of agricultural pesticides in raw materials is controlled by purchasingfrom approved suppliers and COA. Sugar is analyzed for pesticides annually.

    - Absence of agricultural chemicals in fruit juice will be through use of batchesapproved by . and purchasing from an approved supplier.

    5.5 Maintenance Chemical control

    - Only food grade lubricants are be used in processing areas.- Artisans are trained on clean-as-you-go during maintenance. Excess lubricants

    and chemical spills are removed before equipment start-up.

    - For bottling, syrup manufacture and water treatment areas, lubricants areapplied during downtime.

    5.6 Laboratory chemical control

    - All laboratory chemicals are stored in a lockable locker and register ofchemicals used maintained.

    6. TRAININGAll personnel involved in carrying out this programme will be trained as per Training

    Program in the following areas:

    Chemical storage Clean-as-you-go Documents referenced in this programme and record keeping.

    7. CORRECTIVE ACTIONThe QAEM and HOD are responsible for taking corrective action. Corrective action will

    be taken if this programme is found to be ineffective. The corrective action may

    include:

    Retraining of associates Revising the programme

    8. RECORDSIn the course of implementing this programme, all records generated shall be maintained

    as detailed in the Record Keeping Program SH-CP-PR-06. List of the records include:

    Yearly Pesticide analysis for Sugar Purchasing records
