WELCOME TO THE VISUAL ARTS

F R E E E N T R Y T O 7 5 V E N U E S

Open Studios 2013 1

“This inspirational biennial event gives the people of Gloucestershire the rare opportunity to take a glimpse at that intriguing relationship between heart, head, hand, and eye that forms the creative process and the diverse environments in which it occurs. For so many artists to open their studios or gather together to show the fruits of their labour all at one time, is a most glorious celebration of the visual arts which we hope you will enjoy”.

PJ Crook, Patron, Cheltenham Open Studios

WELCOME to COS13, our eighth celebration of the visual arts in Cheltenham and the surrounding area. This biennial event is becoming an important part of the cultural landscape. When it started, in 2001, just 46 artists took part; in 2011, over 10,000 people visited the studios, workrooms and exhibition spaces of over 200 artists working locally. Browse through the Guide and you will see that this year’s event promises to be even more engaging.

So get up close and personal with the art: talk with the artists, watch them at work or have a go in one of a range of hands-on workshops. It is a great opportunity to get some real insight into the creative process. It is also a great way to pick up some beautiful original art at affordable prices, direct from the artist.

We hope you enjoy visiting the venues; it really is a relaxed and informal way to view art. Thank you for supporting the visual arts.

Arabella Kiszely, Chair, Cheltenham Open Studios

P.S. For an original art bargain, head to Christchurch, St. Lukes or Little Buckland Gallery and our Small Art sales. Specially commissioned from artists taking part, each 5˝ x 5˝ piece costs just £5 with all proceeds going to COS.

A word of thanks

Molly Abbott, Nicki Gwynn-Jones, Carol Kinchin, Arabella Kiszely (Chair), Sylvia Lauder (Treasurer), Nikki Seville, Annette Turner (Secretary).
