Compare Scores
A score will be calculated for each possession ritual
based upon a percentage scale. Putting each metric
on a scale will allow for comparisons and easy inter‐
pretation of the data.
Using the percentage scale
on the left, assign a score to
each possession ritual and
the engagement rate. Side‐
by‐side comparison of the
possession rituals to the en‐
gagement score, may reveal
which behavior results in the
highest levels of engagement.
Possession ritual information can be used in con‐
junction with Pinterest business analytics to devel‐
op, implement, and execute Pinterest within a com‐
munication strategy.
Calculating Engagement

total number of re‐pins, likes, and comments for each

Claiming is demonstrated when individual pins on a
Pinterest account lead users to the representing or‐
ganizations’ website, blog, or other social media site.

book, Instagram, YouTube account, or blog site.
Claiming pins are identified as “Uploaded by”,
“Pinned from (and account holder’s site listed)”, or
“Pinned by Pinner.” Count the total number of claim‐
ing pins for the account.
Divide the claiming pins
by the total number of
account pins.

Storing and Hoarding Storing and hoarding pins are defined as pins that
lead to content that is not original to the account
holder. Storing and hoarding pins are often identified
in Pinterest as being “Pinned from” followed by the
website address the pin comes from. To calculate
your storing and hoarding score, count all pins that
are pinned from non‐account holder sites. Each indi‐
vidual pin from each board should be counted. After
each storing and hoarding pin is counted, divide the
storing and hoarding pin count by the total pins for
the account. Storing and hoarding pins
