Chapter Director Thoughts

I understand we all have to work at some point in our lives. We need shelter, transportation and sub-stance. With all these it defines and shapes us in a sense. It shows who we are, how we live and share with others and where we are go-ing. Owning a Harley Davidson mo-torcycle is probably one of my de-fining moments. It shows my love for riding and my fellow members. I'm proud to ride an American icon. It shows a brotherhood of riders like no other. This feeling is why working away from home for so long is hard, especially in the sum-mer.

I can't remember the last time I was able to attend the Cattaraugus County Fair. I have missed birth-days, reunions, and many festivals. I understand it's a part of life and unfortunately my job. I just hope for a moderate give between the two. That did not happen this year as my boss was unwilling to com-promise on me having the first week in July off. This is something

Roseann and I have done for the past five years. We have decided to take more vacation time in August and a short weekend in October.

I guess in the big picture, if you don't work, then I guess you can’t enjoy extra activities. Lessons learned don’t fight the man, until you can literally say goodbye. I know I sound bitter and I don't mean to be. I am thankful for the wonderful family and friends in my life. I am so thankful for all of you.

Here it is the end of July al-ready and summer is going by fast. It’s been a very busy year for us and I’m sure all of you as well. It’s just amazing how fast the riding season goes by. We wait and wait to get the bikes out and then poof - just like that the season is half over and going quick. We’ve had several Chap-ter rides so far and a very busy August scheduled so make sure you check the list and try to make a few of these rides. The overnighter to Watkins Glen is set on Aug. 24th and 25th, with the ride leaving from HDJ on the 24th promptly at 7am. We will do a fast ride out on I-86 with a rest stop at the rest area near Friendship NY and a gas stop at the exit before we get off the Interstate to go to Matt’s place, where the ride begins. On Sunday the 25th my plan is to stop at a few things in the Scavenger Hunt Book and do a leisurely ride toward home. One stop will be in Watkins Glen, one near El-mira and one in Avoca on the way home. Be sure to bring your books with you if you plan on doing the stops. Some of you might want to just head straight for home, which is fine also.

There is a ride scheduled on the 18th of Au-gust to the Straub Brewery (also in the Scaven-ger Hunt Book) in St. Mary’s Pa. I have ar-ranged for a tour of the Brewery; however it is limited to 15 people and is already full. Not eve-ryone will be doing the tour, so I encourage you

to ride along and we will hang out at the Tap Room and visitor center while the tour is going on. There will be a lunch stop somewhere after the tour. There are also a few other places in the book in the St. Mary’s area, so if there is any interest we can stop and get them also.

The Nation of Patriot’s Flag tour is sched-uled for Aug.28th and Aug. 30th with Director Pat Dawson leading the rides on those days. On Wednesday the 28th we will ride out to meet the Arkport Riders and escort them back to James-town, where we will have a small lunch for them and then transfer the Flag. On Friday Aug. 30th we will take the Flag to Erie Harley Davidson and transfer the Flag to the Erie HOG Chapter. Details are still being worked out for these events.

I hope you can join us for some or all of these rides and there are others that are sched-uled but not mentioned in this article. Hope to see ya out riding; remember the season is go-ing by quickly.
