  • AcknowledgementFirstly, I Would Like To Take This Opportunity To Thank My Parents For Their Kind Help And Support On This Project. I To Would Like To Thank Miss.Tan For Guiding Us Thru This Project And Teaching Us Science And Being Our Lovely Class Teacher.

  • What Is Heat?Heat is the transfer of kinetic energy from one medium or object to another, or from an energy source to a medium or object. Such energy transfer can occur in three ways: radiation, conduction, and convection.

  • Bimetallic Strip In A Fire Alarm~An Automatic Fire Alarm Uses A Bimetallic Strip Which Acts As A Thermostat~When There Is A Fire, The Heat Causes The Bimetallic Strip To Expand And Bend Towards The Contact Point~The Bending Completes The Electric Circuit And The Alarm Bell Rings

  • Mercury In A Thermometer~When The Surrounding temperature rises, the mercury in the thermometer expands and the mercury column rises.~When The Surrounding temperature falls, the mercury in the bulb contracts and the mercury column falls.

  • Gaps In The Railway Tracks.~Small Gaps Are Left Between Sections Of The Iron Rails T o Allows The Tracks To Expand In Hot Weather. This Will Prevent The Tracks From Buckling.

  • Rollers In Steel Bridges.~One End Of A Bridge Rests On Rollers To Allow The Bridge To Expand When The Weather Is Hot.

  • Application of the principle of expansion & contraction of matter in solving simple problems in our daily life

  • Opening A Tight Cap The cap can be removed easily by dipping it into hot water for a few minutes. This is because the cap expands when it is heated by the hot water and became loose.

  • Telephone and Electric CablesThe Cables Are Fixed Loosely To Prevent Them From Snapping When They Contract At Night or During Cold Weather.During Installation, Allowance has also been made so that they do not expand and sag too much during hot days.

  • Metallic Tyres The Metallic tyre of a train is made with a slightly smaller diameter than the metallic wheels. The Tyre Is heated before fitting in into the wheel. When The Metallic tyre cools down, the tyre contracts and fits tightly around the wheel.
