Windows Live Movie Maker is an application used to create movies by combining clips from digital video cameras, digital photos, and digital music. After assembling the clips, you save your movie as a single file that can be played with digital media players. 6. Repeat the technique just practiced to add the Rapid 2 video, and then compare your screenwith Figure 1.

Clips and photos are added to the storyboard pane, and the movie is viewed in thepreview monitor.

7. In the storyboard, drag the playback indicator all the way to the left. In the playbackcontrols, click the Play button to view the video in the preview monitor.

The video plays the items in the order they are arranged in the storyboard pane. Here,the video currently contains two clips.

8. Click the Movie Maker button , and then click Save project. In the Save Project dialogbox, navigate to your Windows 7 Chapter 6 folder. In the File name box, typeLastname_Firstname_w7_06_Rapids and then click Save.

A project file stores the arrangement of the storyboard, but it does not store the mediaitself. When a project is complete, you use the project file to create a single video filethat will be viewed in other programs. If you plan to make changes to the video, youwould need to open the project file, make the desired changes, and then create a newvideo. You would also need to store the original media files that are represented in thestoryboard.

9. In the Add group, click the Add music button. In the Add Music dialog box, navigate to theRapids folder in the Videos library. Click Allegro, and then click Open. Compare yourscreen with Figure 2.

Music displays as a track in the storyboard.

10. On the Home tab, in the AutoMovie themes group, point to a thumbnail to view the LivePreview of that theme. Point to, but do not click, other themes to preview each theme.

12. In the playback controls, click the Play button to view the video.

13. Click the fourth clip—DIRECTED to select it. Press X to remove the clip. Repeat thistechnique to delete the last two clips—STARRING and FILMED. Click Save .

11. In the AutoMovie themes group, click the More button . Click the last thumbnail—Sepia. Compare your screen with Figure 3.

AutoMovie themes are used to add titles, credits, transitions, and other effects to yourmovies quickly. These are added to the storyboard, where they can be edited.

15. Press E to close the Share gallery. In the Share group, click the Save movie button arrow,and then under Common settings, click For email.

16. In the Save Movie dialog box, navigate to your Windows 7 Chapter 6 folder. Accept the Filename provided by clicking Save.

The save movie process converts the items in the storyboard into a single movie file that canbe played in a movie player such as Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center.

14. On the Home tab, in the Share group, click the More button . Compare your screenwith Figure 4.

Movie Maker can optimize and publish videos to several types of digital media, includinghigh-definition, standard-definition, DVD, portable players, or mobile phones. You can alsopublish the video to YouTube™.

17. Wait for the video to complete, and then in the message that displays, click Play. InWindows Media Player, click the Pause button , and then compare your screen withFigure 5. If necessary, move the Windows Media Player window so that the Movie Makerstoryboard is visible.

The player controls do not display when they are not used. When this happens, you candisplay the player controls by pointing to the player window.

18. Create a Full-screen Snip, click Copy , and then Close the markup window withoutsaving the changes.

19. Start WordPad, type your first and last name, and then add a new line. Type Windows 7Chapter 6 More Skills 12

20. Press J, and then in the Insert group, click Date and time, and then click OK. Press J,and then Paste the snip.

21. Save the document in your Windows 7 Chapter 6 folder asLastname_Firstname_w7_06_Rapids

22. If you are printing your work, print the WordPad document. Exit WordPad, and then Closeall open windows.

23. Delete the Rapids folder from the Videos library.

24. If you are done with your computer or this is your last project for this chapter, uninstall allWindows Live programs. Otherwise, leave the programs installed for the next project.

25. Submit the WordPad printout or the project files as directed by your instructor.
