What makes oceans salty?
• Rain water falling on amountain is fresh.
• As it flows downhill, it picks upsalt from the soil and rocks.
• The water flows into tributaries(small streams or rivers).

What makes oceans salty?
• Tributaries flow into a largerriver.
• The river flows into the oceanand drops off a small amount ofsalt.

• Some ocean water evaporates, changing from a liquid to a gas(water vapor).
• As the water vapor rises out of the ocean, the salt stays behind, making the remaining watersaltier.
