• Emotions – feelings
– Types• Anger• Fear• Sadness• Grief• Happiness
– All emotions are normal – it is how you express them that makes the difference
• Hormones – powerful chemicals, produced by glands, regulate body functions
– Teen years = rapid changes in your emotions & body due to hormones
What are some healthy ways to deal with emotions?
Express yourself!
Physical Health – trouble sleeping, sleeping too much, stomachaches, headaches
Mental/Emotional – tension, trouble concentrating, anger, being disorganized
Social Health – arguments with friends or family members, sulking, violent behavior
• Abstinence - not participating in health risk behaviors
Avoiding harmful situations

• Stress - how your body responds to changes around you
examples:
forgetting a locker combo
parents divorcing
friend moving away
What do you do to relieve stress?
• Distress- Negative stress• Holds you back from getting things done.
• Eustress – Positive stress• To get things done
• Stressors - objects, people, places and events that trigger stress
– “fight-or-flight” response (page 42)• Know for test!!
• Fatigue - extreme tiredness– Too much stress
• How to fix it!–Removing the source of the stress–Increase activity level–Learn to manage stress
• How to manage stress and anxiety– Recognize stress
• Funny feeling in stomach, fast breathing, pounding heart

– Set your priorities• List what you want to accomplish • Put in order
– Redirect your energy• Use your energy to do something positive

• Relax– Take a deep breath– think positive– Listen to music
• Put things in perspective– You are not alone– Don’t make your problems bigger than they
are
