Brother Knights,
We are now in the last quarter of the 2018, 2nd quarter of our fraternal year. Let us review on
what we have done as a council. We have 3 new members, almost on track we need 15 new
members. As for activities, we had our officer’s installation; the Parish Wide picnic, which was a
huge success, assisting traffic control on the Sunday masses during the renovation of the parking lot.
We now have a kiosk at the vestibule of the church which contains religious material for members
and parishioners. We completed our Parish Blood Drive.
Fr. Binh sent his big Thank You, for helping him in the parking lot traffic control during the
renovation of the parking lot. The Parish Wide Picnic as mentioned was a complete success. Around
250 guests attended, enough food and drinks, thanks to the Small Faith Community for providing the
salads. The kids enjoyed all the games and thanks to the HSA (Home School Association). The
CANVAS (Young Adult Ministry) provided extra hand during the event. This was an event where
different ministries in the church were involved as “One Faith Community”.
Please welcome our new Brother Knights, Dave Gallagher and Jason Roberts who
completed their Admission Degree at the Father Kass Council on September 17, 2018.
Due to conflict on room reservation and a guarantee that we have a big room to use for our
meeting, we moved our business meeting to 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Ed Building.
For all brother knights who have an e-mail or do not wish to receive e-mail. Please call me
or Louis Bloch (562-229-6040) our phone captain, so we can include you in the call list. And to
those who has not been receiving email from me, please send me your new e-mail address. We need
to communicate with you on upcoming events and important information that comes up.

THERE IS AN “APP” FOR THAT
When you received your smart phone you probably found out right away that there is an
“app” for everything. You can play games, plan trips, book your rooms, watch sports and news and
get up to date reports on everything. Phones aren’t just for phoning anymore.
Technology is an amazing thing but Scripture gives us “apps” as well. We have direct notes
(applications) from God telling us how to apply the truth of His Word to our life. I will list just a
few. There are literally thousands of “apps” in the Bible that will direct you in the way that you can
apply them to your life. The answers are all there.
Philippians 2: the unity “app” If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any
comfort from his love, If any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then
make my love complete by being like-minded having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.
Philippians 2:14-15 The shine as lights “app” Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that
you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved
generation in which you shine like stars in the universe.
Ephesians 5:1-2 The imitate God “app” Be imitators of God, therefore as dearly loved children, live
a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to
God.
Ephesians 5:4 The impure acts “app” Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking,
which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
Ephesians 5:5 The greed “app” For of this you can be sure. No immoral, impure or greedy person
such a man is an idolater and has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Do you want
to know more about embracing Wisdom? Proverbs has an app for that. Proverbs 1-2-3 and 4.
Do you want to know more about the warnings on Adultery? Proverbs has an app for that. Proverbs
5. Read Proverbs 6 for some interesting insight on foolishness, stupidity and craziness.
There are six things the Lord hates and seven that are detestable to him. There is an app for
that. Proverbs 6: 16-19 (1) Someone who thinks they are arrogantly superior (2) a lying tongue (3)
hands that shed innocent blood. (4) A heart that devises wicked schemes. (5) feet that are quick to
rush into evil. (6) A false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissention among
brothers.
The Old Testament and the New Testament are full of “apps” Just open the Bible and you
will find thousands of ways you can apply Gods word to your life. Does He love you? Yes there is an
“app” for that. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whosoever
believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. NSS
Brother Knights,
I’m back from a 21 day land/cruise which was fantastic, however it’s good to be
back home. For the past couple of months you have heard our Grand Knight Rolly talk about
the completely new program introduced by Supreme (Knights of Columbus headquarters)
called, “Faith in Action”. This program focuses on faith filled family programs that support
Catholic men in their mission to live their faith and build their families as “Domestic
Churches”. The categories of Faith in Action are Faith, Family, Community and Life.
May God bless the new program helping the Knights and their families in developing
the faith, continue to serve the parish, communities, youth, seniors, and the needy. For more
information please go into our website, “www.KofC8599.org” and click “Supreme Council”

FAITH IN ACTION REPORT
Our council's Faith In Action Program is alive and well. At our September Officers Meeting,
Grand Knight Rolly reviewed Knights of Columbus Faith In Action as it applies to our council.
It was evident to me that the Holy Spirit was present at the meeting. Our parish, as
administered by Father Binh, our Chaplain, is filled with the Holy Spirit in response to the needs of
all our parishioners! As Grand Knight Rolly went through the Knights of Columbus plan for Faith In
Action, volunteers stepped forward with inspired words to help out. For example, knights at the
meeting prayed for ailing brother knight Jose Perez and offered to visit him.
Also, names came to our minds of folks in the parish to contact to fulfill our goals. What the
Knights and Father Binh hope to accomplish is to have our council working together with groups
already present in Saint Irenaeus parish to make us both stronger. A good example was our first
parish picnic in August in which knights worked with other groups.
Please join us with suggestions to Grand Knight Rolly of how you can help your favorite
ministry in the parish. As Saint John said about Faith, "With man this is impossible, but with God all
things are possible."
Love and prayers,
Frank J. Faecke, Recorder

My Brother Knights,
As your Membership Chairman for our council, I hope you can help me and your Grand
Knight recruiting new members. Our Grand Knight has been busy recruiting, but he cannot do that
all by himself, he needs your help also as well as and myself. Have you asked anyone lately to join?
I want to share with you 10 Key Points to Membership Recruiting Success.
Talk about your positive experiences as a member and share your enthusiasm for your
council.
Make a good impression with the right attitude and body language. Maintain a positive
attitude, smile often, avoid being negative, always look the prospective member in the eye
when talking with him.
Talk to the prospective member and his wife if she is present about the ways membership
can benefit his family.
Show unity when conducting a charitable service program.
Ask men to join our council. Family, friends, co-workers and fellow parishioners represent
recruitment opportunities--ask if they would like to join our council.
Approach recruiting in a different way, think about what to say when the answer is "I don't
have time.
Promote our council's spirituality.
Involve young people.
Follow-up with all prospective member in a timely manner.
Remember, if you don't ask, he'll never join.
Vivat Jesus!
