This five-acre garden was created on the UNC campus in 1903 and is now part of the North Carolina Botanical Garden. It contains more than 500 species of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants. Two prominent features are the recently renovated 300-ft. native-vine arbor and an adjacent

stone gathering circle.

In Chapel Hill’s Battle Park. Historic stone amphitheatre where outdoor drama was first performed in 1916 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. The site was chosen by William C. Coker, who also developed Coker Arboretum nearby in 1903. The theatre was rebuilt in the early 1940s.
