About the Conferenceth

The Agricultural Economics Research Associa�on (India) is organizing its 27 Annual Conference on 'Changing Landscape of Rural India' during December 17-19, 2019 at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The main emphasis of this Conference is on understanding the changing landscape of rural India, the trends, impact and factors contribu�ng to the change.

About Agricultural Economics Research Associa�on (AERA)The Agricultural Economics Research Associa�on (India)- AERA (India), a registered society, came into being in 1987, and on date has around 957 life members, 110 ordinary members, 122 ins�tu�onal members and 33 honorary life members from India and abroad. The Associa�on contributes towards improving quality of research in Agricultural Economics and rural development through its highly NAAS rated journal namely Agricultural Economics Research Review. To encourage young professionals, the journal also publishes abstracts of the Masters and Doctoral disserta�ons in Agricultural Economics. Besides, the Associa�on regularly organizes annual conference on various contemporary issues and contributes to the policy discourse on agrarian issues. The Associa�on is now widely recognized for its professional contribu�ons and credibility.

Role of agriculture and agribusiness educa�on in crea�ng rural entrepreneurship to enhance rural livelihood opportuni�es.4. Exploring op�ons to improve implementa�on of agricultural and rural development programs. 5. Posi�ve and nega�ve externali�es of farm mechaniza�on in the framework of sustainable agriculture. 6. Role of markets, logis�cs, informa�on and price support programme in enhancing farmers' incomes.7. Role of agriculture and rural futures in managing price risks. 8. Use of advanced technologies like ar�ficial intelligence, block chain, etc. in addressing emerging issues in agricultural value

Pre-Conference WorkshopA pre-conference workshop on 'Impact Assessment: Methodological Issues' is being organized by the Interna�onal Food Policy Research Ins�tute (IFPRI) with Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and Agricultural Economics Research Associa�on (AERA) on

th16 December 2019 at PAU, Ludhiana. The workshop will consist of lectures on current research fron�ers and their impact assessment with an emphasis on quan�ta�ve methods. Par�cipants will have an opportunity to meet resource persons during the

th27 Annual conference of AERA to discuss their research with the experts.

About Conference OrganizersThe Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) was set up to serve the State of erstwhile Punjab; and was inaugurated by Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Prime Minister of India on July 8, 1963. The University is a pioneer State Agricultural University (SAU) of India for research, educa�on and extension in India. The PAU has played a pivotal role in making the country self-sufficient in foodgrain produc�on and is known as 'Mother of Green Revolu�on'. With merely 1.53 per cent geographical area the Punjab State contributes about 40-45 per cent of wheat and about 30 per cent of rice to the central ki�y of foodgrains. This is the result of path-breaking research at PAU backed by world-class teaching and extension services provided at the door-step of farmers. At present, about 800 faculty members are working at the main PAU campus, Regional Research Sta�ons, KVKs, etc. Dr. Baldev Singh Dhillon (Padma Shri Awardee), the Vice Chancellor is a well-known maize breeder of the world. Under his able and dynamic leadership since July 2011, the University has made rapid strides in teaching, research and extension.

Department of Economics & Sociology The Department of Economics & Sociology is one of the reputed departments in the discipline of Agricultural Economics in the country. Dr. A.S. Kahlon was the founder Head of the Department. Dr. S.S. Johl, a

well-known Agricultural Economist has also served as Head of the Department. Both also held the posi�on of Chairman, Agricultural Prices Commission (APC)/Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP). Dr. Ramesh Chand, a reputed agricultural economist and Member, NITI AAYOG is also an alumnus of this department. There are 31 faculty members serving in the area of research, teaching and extension. The Department offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes in the discipline of Agricultural Economics and Sociology. At present, Dr. Kamal Va�a is Head of the Department.

About LudhianaLudhiana is the commercial capital of Punjab and the largest city of the state having a popula�on of 16.34 lakhs. It is spread over 310 sq kms of area. The prosperity of the place can be a�ributed to spirit of enterprise and business sense displayed by the people here. Known as the Manchester of India, it is a major tex�le and light engineering centre. It has a large grain market and is famous for rural Olympics. It also happens to be an important pilgrimage centre with a number of Gurudwaras located within and around the city.

Weather in Ludhiana in DecemberThe temperature in December ranges between a Maximum of 20 degree Celsius and Minimum of 5 degree Celsius. It is advised to pack warm winter clothing to meet the December chills of the north India.

How to reach LudhianaBy Air: Ludhiana airport, also known as Sahnewal Airport is located at about 25 km via NH 5. It is easily accessible; however, it runs limited flights. The next nearest airport from Ludhiana is the Chandigarh airport, which is at a distance of about 100 km, easily reachable by road. It runs various domes�c flights which caters to many ci�es across India.

By Rail: Ludhiana has a well-maintained 'Ludhiana Junc�on railway sta�on'. There are regular trains running between New Delhi and Ludhiana. Besides, many trains have regular running from Howrah to Amritsar and Jammu via Ludhiana. It is located in about the centre of the city and is among the busiest railway sta�ons of Punjab. The railway sta�on is about 5 Kms. from Punjab Agricultural University.

By Road: Ludhiana is located on the Amritsar-Delhi sec�on of the Grand Trunk Road and has a centrally located ÍSBT 'Amar Shaheed Sukhdev Inter-State Bus Terminal'. The Bus Stand is located about 5 Km from PAU. The University campus is located on the Ferozepur road.

Par�cipants are advised to use Ola/Uber taxi services from your arrival loca�on to reach the University.

Accommoda�onPar�cipants shall have to pay for their accommoda�ons and the accommoda�on will be provided in the university guest houses on first come first serve basis. The par�cipants can also book hotels on their own. The recommended hotels are:
