CG Foods is an ISO 9001:2008 certified company and formerly known as Nepal Thai Foods. It was established in 1984 in Kathmandu for manufacturing instant noodles in technical collaboration with Thai Preserved Food Factory, Thailand. It had an initial capacity of 120 packets per minute; it now has increased to a capacity of over 2,000 packets per minute, producing over 2.2 billion packs per year. There are currently seven noodle plants in Nepal, nine in India, and most recently, one in Serbia that give CG Foods a presence in over 30 countries in five continents

Globally it is growing by 12% and in India it is the fastest growing instant noodle company with more than 30% CAGR over the last seven years. Greentech Mega Food Park Pvt. Ltd. (GMFPPL) is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) that has been formed to set up the Mega Food Park in the Ajmer District of Rajasthan under the Indian Ministry of Food Processing Industries’ Mega Food Parks Scheme.

GMFPPL is based on the demand-driven hub and spoke model with provisions that create a sustainable agro horticultural value chain. It contains three vital components: the Central Processing Center (CPC), the Primary Processing Centers (PPCs) and the integrated cold chain network that connects the CPC with the PPCs.

CG Industrial Park’s (CGIP) history goes back to 1965 when CG established its first Modern Hosiery Industry in Birgunj, Nepal and later on a biscuit factory in Maida Mill in Duhabi, Nepal, one of the very first industries in the area. Realizing the region

lacked industrial infrastructure, CG decided to build CGIP in order to improve efficiency and decrease costs of its production. In 1993 a plot of land was acquired in the Nawalparassi district and production begun in 1995.

Spanning over 137 acres of land, Nepal’s first ultra-modern industrial village is strategically located in the center of the country, about 185 km by road from Kathmandu. It offers global investors and collaborators a secure and stable operating environment to set up factories, assembly units, production houses and more.

CGIP houses multiple production units manufacturing instant noodles, snack foods, beer, juices, corrugated boxes, blended spices, electronics and other ancillary units. It has a well-equipped research and development department and a state-of-the-art learning center, as well. Today it has close to 2,000 employees (90% from the local area), enhancing the economic and socio-economic prosperity of the region.

CG Food Park - Kathmandu is an integrated food production complex that started in 1984 and manufactured Nepal’s first brown noodles. The extruded snacks production unit was later incorporated. It also houses the total quality management (TQM) and research & development (R&D) centers. It is an ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System) and ISO 22000:2005 (Food Safety Management System) certified unit.

Nepal Social Businee (NSB) is a joint initiative of Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) and Chaudhary Foundation (CF) which started in July 2014, aims to address various social issues faced by Nepal through social business. With its focus on social impact and sustainability, NSB believes that through creation of social business we can accelerate the development of Nepal and mitigate our pressing social issues.NSB’s ultimate goal is to create sustainable entrepreneurship and an investment in an ethical business that runs in a socially impactful way which will eventually help reduce the poverty level of the people.

Nepal social business has already trained more than 100 entrepreneurs and has incubated 33 projects. Out of those 33 projects, 12 projects have received investments — and are in Province 5 and 6 of the current Federal structure of the country. Enterprise development, which takes place in six of Nepal’s districts, addresses relevant social issues and aims to create sustainable entrepreneurship through the advancement of social businesses within an area. The enhanced economic status of people living in those areas, as well as the employment that is consequently created by social business efforts, is vital to reach Nepal’s target of reducing poverty to below six percent by 2030. According to Professor Yunus, the Nobel laureate and the creator of social business, it is a financially sustainable organization solely to solve social problems that exist in our community and around society. Whereas, original investment may be recouped, all potential profits are reinvested to further increase the organizations social impact. Social Business is combination of NGO and Business, where it has social objective like NGO, but financially sustainable like business. Seven Principles of social business by Prof. Yunus are;

SOCIAL BUSINESS• The objective of a Social Business is to overcome poverty, or one or more problems (such as education, health, technology access, and environment) which threaten people and society. The primary objective of a Social Business is not profit maximization.

• Social Businesses must become financially sustainable in the long term and not forever dependent on grants.

• Investors get back their investment amount only. No dividend is given to investors beyond their initial capital.

• Once any investment has been paid back, the Social Business re-invest all profits back into the company for expansion and improvement of social impact.

• All Social Businesses must be environmentally conscious.

• The workforce in Social Businesses must get market wage with better working conditions.

•Social Businesses are conducted with joy, to improve people’s lives.

Three incubation batches for Nepal social business on behalf of Chaudhary Foundation have been organized since June 2014. The first batch of pilot projects started in July 2014 in Jumla, one of the remotest district and region of the country. The second started in June 2015 in Dadeldhura and Dang. Eleven projects were incubated in December 2016 during the third batch in Dolpo and six are being invested.

The national movement to address an issue of stunting has been launched on the 1st of November 2019 by The Honorable Presidentof Nepal Shree Bidhya Bhandari.In Nepal, the nutritional status of mothers and children under five is extremely poor. For children, anthropometric deficits vary with ecological zone, in that stunting and underweight are more prevalent in the Mountains and Hills and wasting in the Terai region.

Over the last 20 years, no improvement has been observed in the nutritional status of children.At present, almost half the children are stunted and 11% are wasted. Nepalese women are highly affected by malnutrition especially in non-mountainous regions. In Nepal, food shortages due to seasonality contribute to malnutrition. The project is intended to Increase effective coverage of proven nutrition intervention to avert deaths and to improve cognitive development and Develop and test new solution in interventions, implementation approaches and data measurement system to effectively tackle the unaddressed burden of undernutrition. 

Baliyo Nepal is a movement created by Chaudhary Foundation that is solely focused on increasing the availability of safe, affordable and nutritious products, and to increase demand for healthy products in Nepal.

It is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which has issued a grant to the Chaudhary Foundation to launch, develop and scale up Baliyo Nepal. After a vigorous dialogues with stakeholders from various private organizations, intense market research, understanding nutritional behavioral habits of people from various economic backgrounds and geography along with Nutrition team of Gates Foundation, Chaudhary Foundation nominated various levels of experts and champions to lead and to create an independent entity called Baliyo Nepal.  Chaudhary Foundation is proud to support this organization and the national movement against hidden hunger.”

There are an estimated 100,000 people in Nepal living with amputated limbs due to causes ranging from motor vehicle crashes to cancer. And for the first time in years or even decades, 476 people can walk again thanks to the prosthetic limbs they received during Chaudhary Foundation’s Artificial Limb Fitment Camps in Kathmandu and Nawalparasi.

The idea was born after Chaudhary Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Government in 2017 to bring Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS or Jaipur Foot) to Nepal, which provides prosthetic limbs, calipers and other equipment to tbenificiaries free of charge.

The Foundation, in partnership with Jaipur Foot and the Embassy of India, ran the joint initiative through the name “Artificial Limb Fitment Camp” and was supported by Sahaj Community Hospital in Nawalparasi and Norvic International Hospital in Kathmandu. These services were provided by Jaipur Foot - an Indian-based organization which uses low-cost,high-speed prosthesis limb technologies that are some of the most effective in the region.

In addition, we are proud to announce that the Sahaj Community Hospital was able to receive support from Chaudhary Foundation on the establishment of a permanent center - CG Mahaveer Sabal Center on its premises and the human resources to operate the

center in order to provide sustained and much-needed permanent artificial limb services as well as post-visit services.

The benificiaries described feelings of alienation and isolation from family, friends and communities after the accident that caused them to lose their limbs. However, they said their attitudes changed duringthe camps. As part of the CG family, we should be proud to be involved with a project that will enhance the overall well-being of Nepal, because everyone has the right to good health regardless of race, religion, gender, ability, or income level.

Unnati is a skill development programme that promotes sustainable livelihoods by empowering women from socially deprived communities through income generating opportunities and market linkages. Market connectivity and awareness on demand and delivery at the market level is a key innovation Unnati is trying to inject among rural producers. Handcrafts, artifacts and traditionally used materials such as bamboo, pottery and wood craft has a real value in national market and international market. Thus, Unnati is an initiative which supports a future for women, youth, indigenous artists, urban entrepreneurs and traditional and cultural communities by providing them better income generating opportunities while safeguarding their economic standards and building up their morale, values and esteem.

Unnati Bazaar,Shashwat DhamLocated at Shashwat Dham - a popular destination for tourists & spiritual travellers alike is the Unnati Bazaar, which is where you can purchase a diverse range of traditional crafts made by traditional and indigenous artists especially women across Nepal. Unnati Bazaar is supporting dozens of entrepreneurs through market linkages that Unnati created for their products. This Bazaar has been a major attraction for people coming to Shashwat Dham and this platform is also orienting and raising awareness for people people regarding the value of local products made by Nepali artists. This platform is not just a Bazaar, but it is also the source of inspiration and information to many others to show that once skills are harness, economic prosperity is possible.

The key objectives of Unnati are as follows:

• To enrich and empower national heritage through the revival of cottage industries and indigenous livelihood practices in the field of arts, crafts, performance, agriculture, and various traditional industries.

• To preserve and promote livelihood practices that are threatened by fast urbanization and loss of identity & culture.

• To educate craft practitioners and update traditional techniques to suit modern day requirements, so that these skills find their way back into people’s lives through transformation in design and functionality.

• To create a range of products & services that cater to a wide market – from the very base of the economic pyramid to high-end consumers.

There are various components of Unnati Cultural Village:

1. Craft Training Center

A craft training center with classrooms dedicated towards training related with design and innovation. Craft center will turn richness of art and craft into an economic prosperity creating livelihood.

2. Art Guest House

A. Junkiri Villa - An elegantly engineered Tharu and Mithila styled 3 key room building defines purpose of the art guest house called Junkiri Villa signifying thousands of fireflies illuminating this block. A private space for artists, writers, poets, musicians, crafters are well portrayed along with authentic furniture and touch up provided to reflect the reflect the beauty of Nepal

B. An Art Residency - A two room block with a private studio and an outside porch stands on the lotus pond. This is an art residency where artists from anywhere in the world can come and use this space.

C. Tharu Ghar - A beautiful tharu home with5 tharu rooms are named after festivals celebrated by the tharu community Jitiya, Faguwa, Sohari, Anant and Barhana. Visiting artists or any other guests will be accommodated in the Tharu homes.

3. Art Gallery

The number of art galleries in this part of the country are limited. Since there will be lots of artists visiting at the cultural festival and using this space for their creativity, this is an exhibition space of their work. This space will create an opportunity for artists to exhibit across the country, especially promoting local artists

4. A Cultural Restaurant(Tharu Newari Thakali)

The Village also consists of a cultural restaurant representing various ethnic cuisines of Nepal. This is an initiative to develop and promote a cultural gastronomy of the country. The organic garden is one of the most important elements of the village. This garden will be growing various vegetables and will be provided in the kitchen of the cultural restaurant.
