Magnificent Churches At about 4 p.m., the busses were pressed into service for a sight seeing tour of Du- brovnik. This tour took us to the Franciscan and Dominican Monasteries and the Cathe- dral, all located within the walls of the old fort and within a radius of a half mile. The interiors of these churches are beautiful. The main and side altars are works of art. Leaving the churches we walked through narrow "uli- cas", barely 6 feet wide, to get a close view of the construc- tion of the fort and the ten- ements. Hours later a tired, hungry group returned to the hotel for a dinner of barbecued veal on small sticks. Nikolac and I were fortunate enough to get; a table with Jean and Bette, and what service that table got! Ivica, the waiter, saw to it that we had the best and the most and you can rest as- sured that such service was not because of Nick and me. Case Of A Red Face After dinner some took to the outdoor terrace and some sat on the hotel steps, which brings to mind one of my most embarrassing moments of the entire trip. I wanted to take a pic- ture of the people on the steps and as I was focusing my camera, and attaching the flashbulb unit, my cam- era case tilted and its en- tire contents dropped to the sidewalk, tissue paper and all; was my face red I I never scooped up any- thing faster in my life before, and this amid roars of laugh- ter. Later, in the evening, we encountered some difficulty in getting water to the 4th floor. I had never realized how precious water could be until I tried to take a bath without it. Our patience was finally rewarded and in no time flat we were off in dreamland. Jitterbugs Everywhere On Sunday, August 19, we were taken on an excursion by boat to the Isle of Lo- krum, a short distance from Dubrovnik. On this island, which has been converted into a public park for picnics and bath- ing, is located the palace of Maximilian of Mexico. Af- ter three hours of recon- noitring, we boarded our cruiser and returned to the city. Just about this time, those long Yugoslav siestas were becoming contagious and away I went to discover for myself what they were like. It was a warm summer night and the Boat Group was invited to see Shake- speare's "Midsummer Night's Dream" in an outdoor theatre with natural scenery and set- tings. Kathy Perman and Olga Vaskov had similar ideas, and- so the three of us had another glimpse of Yugo- slav night life. The music was American jazz with jitterbugs all over the place. Latin American tunes were also favored and again, as in Belgrade, not a tamburitza to be seen. Ah, Yugoslav Sladoled Monday, August 20, was a free day, one devoid of any social obligations and each tourist was on his own. My first item on the agenda was to visit the Putnik Agen- cy, to make reservations for 1st Class .travel on the Simp- Ion Orient Express from Za- greb to Paris, with sleeping accommodations. I was going to make sure that my ride back would be in style and comfort. I visualized myself in a sin- gle private room, reclining in a nice soft bed, thinking about the poor peasants in the tourist 2nd class com- partments. You'll learn la- ter what a surprise I got. I left Putnik and returned to the monasteries and cathe- dral for some interior snap- shots of the altars and paint- ings. Just about this time I met the CFU Plane Group, who arrived the night before and were making their tour of Dubrovnik. Leaving them, I found a pastry shoppe that sold "sla- doled" and had my first taste of Yugoslav ice cream. He Men Wear Bikinis The afternoon was spent at the beach, a short distance from the Sumatrin Hotel, where instead of the women wearing bikinis the men wore them—what a revolting de- velopment. Through the courtesy of Kathy Perman, I was clad in her father's, bathing trunks and felt over- dressed My white epidermis stood out in sharp contrast to the deep tan of the local boys. Olga Vaskov, Kathy Per- man, Katherine Lesko, Bette Jercich, Mary Herceg and Slavko, our bus driver, were also soaking up the rays of sunshine. It was a grand day for bathing. Mayor A Dapper Dan After supper the entire CFU tour group, both plane and boat, dressed for the cocktail reception at the Ma- yor's palace in Dubrovnik. It was a sumptuous place with large ornate rooms dec- orated with original paint- ings. The usual warm wel- come was extended to the members by the Mayor, a dapper gentleman of sartorial elegance. Michael Grasha, speak- ing in Croatian, replied in behalf of the CFTJ and thanked the officials for their many courtesies. Af- ter several cocktails the re- ception got warmer and wanner, until we were com- pelled to seek relief in a nearby Kafana. Here some of the danced and relaxed, drink- ing lemonada, coffee, sodas, and wine until midnight, just in time to board the last trol- ley to Lapad. All day Tuesday was spent loafing and relaxing, in prep- aration for the next day's trip to Split. With nothing special to do, I again fell victim to the siesta fever. In the evening a small group hired a taxi and went to the Hotel Argentina Ter- race Gardens for dancing and refreshments. The gardens were situated on the side of a cliff overlooking the calm wa- ters of the Adriatic. (To Be Continued) East Chicagoans Host Mid-West Choirs Meet EAST CHICAGO, Ind. Oak Park, Illinois AMBRIDGE, Pa. The Holy Trinity Church Tambur- itzans' Second Annual Con- cert, held Sunday, February 24, at the Ambridge High School Auditorium, proved to be a colorful musical extrava- ganza. Many people who attended the First Annual Concert were fascinated by the tam- buritza music, and this time brought along their friends to witness an enjoyable eve- ning of music. When time came for the curtain to rise, the audi- torium was filled to capa- city. Beside the many chil- dren attending, there were over one thousand adults present. This comes to prove that the people are interested in the type of music that our Tamburitzans play on their instruments. Indeed, they bring the sounds from distant lands, that sing and cry at the same time and fill the hearts of listeners with irresistable longing for love and beauty. Program A Smash Hit The program was composed of instrumental, song and dance numbers of various nationalities, performed with precision and gracefulness. The guest tamburitzans and kolo dancing group that helped to make the evening more entertaining were the McKeesport Junior Tambur- itzans, the Clairton Tambur- itzans and the Cokeburg Kolo Group. In addition, Mrs. Jennie Kolar, the wife of our one and only Duquesne Tambu- ritzans Director, rendered two musical selections with her own delightful inter- pretation. She was accom- panied by the Duquesne Combo. The audience was excep- tionally appreciative of the; entire performance and their; applause rang enthusiastical- j ly through the hall. | Gift For Organizer ' Before the Concert opened,! THE EXECUTIVE -OFFICIAL MINUTES- Jean Maletic was appointed to make the presentation. Rev. Ivo Sivric, O.F.M., our Pastor, opened the pro- gram with an Invocation. The young tamburitzans, and we, are all sincerely thankful to him for the aid he extended towards this concert and for the interest he is taking in our young- sters. Following the concert, the crowd moved to the Polish Falcons Hall, where the Du- quesne Combo played for dancing. We deem it necessary to express our deepest gratitude to the very capable teacher of tamburitza music, Mr. Walter W. Kolar, Director of the Duquesne University Tambu- ritzans. Under his guidance and co- operation with the young- sters and parents, the out- come of the concert could be nothing but a great success. We are also grateful to Mr. Donald Knezevich, Assistant to Mr. Kolar, for his efforts in teaching the children. Zajedničar Rates Orchid Thanks are in order to all our friends of Ambridge and vicinity and to the many members of St. Marys Church in Rankin who attended our concert. We are deeply indebted to the official organ of the Croatian Fraternal Union, the Zajedničar, and to its English Editor, Mr. Ste- phen Brkich, for the won- derful publicity given to us. They responded readily to every request for publicity and thus contributed a great share to the success. Again, thanks to one and WEDNESDAY, FEBRI'ARY 27, 1957 The Supreme President, bro. or two and a half cents.

Magnificent Churches At about 4 p.m., the busses

were pressed into service for a sight seeing tour of Dubrovnik.

    This tour took us to the Franciscan and Dominican Monasteries and the Cathedral, all located within the walls of the old fort and within a radius of a half mile. T h e i n t e r i o r s o f t h e s e

churches are beautiful. The main and side altars are works of art.

Leaving the churches we walked through narrow "uli-cas", barely 6 feet wide, to get a close view of the construction of the fort and the tenements.

Hours later a tired, hungry group returned to the hotel for a dinner of barbecued veal on small sticks. Nikolac and I were fortunate enough to get; a table with Jean and Bette, and what service that table got!

Ivica, the waiter, saw to it that we had the best and the most and you can rest assured that such service was not because of Nick and me.

Case Of A Red Face After dinner some took to

the outdoor terrace and some sat on the hotel steps, which brings to mind one of my most embarrassing moments of the entire trip.

I wanted to take a picture of the people on the steps and as I was focusing my camera, and attaching the flashbulb unit, my camera case tilted and its entire contents dropped to the sidewalk, tissue paper and all; was my face red I I never scooped up any

thing faster in my life before, and this amid roars of laughter.

Later, in the evening, we encountered some difficulty in getting water to the 4th floor. I had never realized how precious water could be until I tried to take a bath without it.

Our patience was finally rewarded and in no time flat we were off in dreamland.

Jitterbugs Everywhere On Sunday, August 19, we

were taken on an excursion by boat to the Isle of Lo-krum, a short distance from Dubrovnik.

On this island, which has been converted into a public park for picnics and bathing, is located the palace of Maximilian of Mexico. After three hours of reconnoitring, we boarded our cruiser and returned to the city. Just about this time, those

    long Yugoslav siestas were b e c o m i n g c o n t a g i o u s a n d away I went to discover for myself what they were like.

It was a warm summer night and the Boat Group was invited to see Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream" in an outdoor theatre with natural scenery and settings.

dreams and was in no mood to see any of Shakespeare's dreams, so I turned to something more palatable, such as a Kafana. Kathy Perman and Olga Vaskov had similar ideas, and- so the three of us had another glimpse of Yugoslav night life.

The music was American jazz with jitterbugs all over the place. Latin American tunes were also favored and again, as in Belgrade, not a tamburitza to be seen.

Ah, Yugoslav Sladoled Monday, August 20, was a

free day, one devoid of any social obligations and each tourist was on his own.

My first item on the agenda was to visit the Putnik Agency, to make reservations for 1st Class .travel on the Simp-Ion Orient Express from Zagreb to Paris, with sleeping accommodations.

I was going to make sure that my ride back would be in style and comfort. I visualized myself in a single private room, reclining in a nice soft bed, thinking about the poor peasants in the tourist 2nd class compartments. You'll learn later what a surprise I got. I left Putnik and returned

to the monasteries and cathedral for some interior snapshots of the altars and paintings. Just about this time I met the CFU Plane Group, who arrived the night before and were making their tour of Dubrovnik.

Leaving them, I found a pastry shoppe that sold "sladoled" and had my first taste of Yugoslav ice cream. He Men Wear Bikinis

The afternoon was spent at the beach, a short distance from the Sumatrin Hotel, where instead of the women wearing bikinis the men wore them—what a revolting development.

Through the courtesy of Kathy Perman, I was clad in her father's, bathing trunks and felt overdressed My white epidermis stood out in sharp contrast to the deep tan of the local boys. Olga Vaskov, Kathy Per

man, Katherine Lesko, Bette Jercich, Mary Herceg and Slavko, our bus driver, were also soaking up the rays of sunshine. It was a grand day for bathing.

Mayor A Dapper Dan After supper the entire

CFU tour group, both plane and boat, dressed for the cocktail reception at the Mayor's palace in Dubrovnik.

It was a sumptuous place with large ornate rooms decorated with original paintings. The usual warm welcome was extended to the members by the Mayor, a dapper gentleman of sartorial elegance.

Michael Grasha, speaking in Croatian, replied in behalf of the CFTJ and thanked the officials for their many courtesies. After several cocktails the reception got warmer and

wanner, until we were compelled to seek relief in a nearby Kafana.

Here some of the danced and relaxed, drinking lemonada, coffee, sodas, and wine until midnight, just in time to board the last trolley to Lapad.

All day Tuesday was spent loafing and relaxing, in preparation for the next day's trip to Split. With nothing special to do, I again fell victim to the siesta fever.

In the evening a small group hired a taxi and went to the Hotel Argentina Terrace Gardens for dancing and refreshments. The gardens were situated on the side of a cliff overlooking the calm waters of the Adriatic.

    Oak Park, Illinois

AMBRIDGE, Pa. — The Holy Trinity Church Tambur-itzans' Second Annual Concert, held Sunday, February 24, at the Ambridge High School Auditorium, proved to be a colorful musical extravaganza.

Many people who attended the First Annual Concert were fascinated by the tamburitza music, and this time brought along their friends to witness an enjoyable evening of music.

When time came for the curtain to rise, the auditorium was filled to capacity. Beside the many children attending, there were over one thousand adults present. This comes to prove that

the people are interested in the type of music that our Tamburitzans play on their instruments.

Indeed, they bring the sounds from distant lands, that sing and cry at the same time and fill the hearts of listeners with irresistable longing for love and beauty.

Program A Smash Hit The program was composed

of instrumental, song and dance numbers of various nationalities, performed with precision and gracefulness.

The guest tamburitzans and kolo dancing group that helped to make the evening more entertaining were the McKeesport Junior Tamburitzans, the Clairton Tamburitzans and the Cokeburg Kolo Group.

In addition, Mrs. Jennie Kolar, the wife of our one and only Duquesne Tamburitzans Director, rendered two musical selections with her own delightful interpretation. She was accompanied by the Duquesne Combo. The audience was excep

The newly elected officers are: Pres. — Mr. Dan Weimer of Chicago, 111.; Vice-Pres. — Mr. John Tumpich, Chicago; Sec'y. — Mrs. Edward Bab-billa, Gary, Ind.; Treas. — Mrs. John Sarich, St. Louis, Mo.

After the business meeting, an election dinner was served, with Mr. Matt Rivich, Pres. of "Sloga", presiding as host. Grace and Benediction were said by the Rev. Dragicevic, Ass't. Pastor at Sacred Heart Church of So. Chicago, 111.

The committee for the preparation and serving of the dinner, headed by Mrs. Nicholas Zafran, were the Mes-dames Louis Rozmanich, Matthew Kvenich, Pavka Gilo and Luandre Rozmanich and the Misses Mary Smokvina, Violet Kvenich and Kathy Koran.

    THE EXECUTIVE -OFFICIAL MINUTES-

Jean Maletic was appointed to make the presentation.

Rev. Ivo Sivric, O.F.M., our Pastor, opened the program with an Invocation. The young tamburitzans, and we, are all sincerely thankful to him for the aid he extended towards this concert and for the interest he is taking in our youngsters. Following the concert, the

crowd moved to the Polish Falcons Hall, where the Duquesne Combo played for dancing.

We deem it necessary to express our deepest gratitude to the very capable teacher of tamburitza music, Mr. Walter W. Kolar, Director of the Duquesne University Tamburitzans.

Under his guidance and cooperation with the youngsters and parents, the outcome of the concert could be nothing but a great success. We are also grateful to Mr. Donald Knezevich, Assistant to Mr. Kolar, for his efforts in teaching the children.

Zajedničar Rates Orchid Thanks are in order to all

our friends of Ambridge and vicinity and to the many members of St. Marys Church in Rankin who attended our concert.

We are deeply indebted to the official organ of the Croatian Fraternal Union, the Zajedničar, and to its English Editor, Mr. Stephen Brkich, for the wonderful publicity given to us. They responded readily to every request for publicity and thus contributed a great share to the success. Again, thanks to one and
