CFA S OCIETY OF NEBRASKA PO Box 80685 Lincoln, NE 68501-0685 To: Local CFA Candidates From: CFA Society of Nebraska Date: December 26, 2008 Re: An invitation to attend a networking event for CFA candidates Notification of CFA prep courses offered by Creighton University and the University of Nebraska at Omaha Insights into the grading process for the CFA exam 1) The CFA Society of Nebraska would like to invite CFA candidates to attend a networking and prep course information event at the W.H. Thompson (UNO) Alumni Center located at 6705 Dodge Street, Omaha. The event will be at 5:00 PM on Thursday, January 15th. Representatives from both the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Creighton University will provide brief summaries of their respective CFA prep courses. Also, Dr. Richard DeFusco will briefly talk about graduate level courses in finance offered by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln that could be helpful in CFA exam preparations as well as providing some insights into the grading process used by the CFA Institute. We hope that all local CFA candidates will take advantage of this opportunity to network among other candidates, hear about local prep courses, learn about the grading process, and eat some hors d’oeuvres. Society board members (all CFA Charterholders) will also be present to answer questions. If you would like to attend the free event, please contact Mary Buckley by Monday, January 12th at [email protected] or (402) 796-2505. 2) The CFA Society of Nebraska would also like to make CFA candidates aware of CFA prep courses that are being offered by the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Creighton University. UNO offers a Level 1 & Level 2 course. Creighton University offers courses for all three levels. The CFA Society of Nebraska is coordinating the mailing for these courses in order to preserve the confidentiality of candidates in the society’s service area. Information on the courses is attached for your review but it is important to note that these programs are not endorsed by either the society or the CFA Institute. These courses may, however, increase your chances of success next June. If you are interested, the enclosed material will direct you regarding the registration process. We hope all candidates will attend the networking function to meet each other and possibly form independent study groups. Best of luck as you prepare for next year’s exam! President Philip S. The University of Nebraska invites all Level I and Level II candidates to participate in a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) review program beginning February 7, 2009, on the University of Nebraska Omaha campus. The Level I Review program contains 14 sessions based on the Body of KnowledgeTM as detailed in the 2009 CFA Level I Study Guide. The Level II Review program contains 8 sessions based on the Level II Study Guide. Instruction for each session will be provided by members of the CFA Society of Nebraska and University of Nebraska professors that are intimately knowledgeable about the Body of KnowledgeTM needed to pass the CFA Level I and Level II exams. To assist in your preparation for success on the Level I or Level II exam, the final session will be a mock exam given in the same room and building on the University of Nebraska Omaha’s campus that the June 6th CFA exam will be held. This will allow you to become familiar with the testing environment before the exam date, thereby, allowing you on June 6th to focus on successfully passing the Level I or Level II exam without distractions. The goal of this program at the University of Nebraska is to serve the CFA Society of Nebraska community and to help you understand the Body of Knowledge needed to pass the CFA Level I or Level II exam. Cost of the program is $595. Participants in the program will receive:

Ø 14 (Level I) or 8 (Level II) instructor lead sessions based on the CFA Institute’s Body of Knowledge

Ø Exceptional instruction by University of Nebraska professors and members of the CFA Nebraska chapter who are intimately familiar with the CFA Body of Knowledge

Ø Mock exam in the same room and building as the June 6th exam Ø A significant discount on Schweser Level I or II Study Notes (A Kaplan

Professional Company) and SchweserProTM Testing Software Ø Access to a library containing all reading material for the CFA Level I and II

exams Ø Use of the University of Nebraska’s new investment lab in the College of

Business Administration for computerized examination

Note, you may also receive University of Nebraska undergraduate or graduate credit towards your bachelor’s degree, an MBA, Masters of Accounting or Masters of Economics for participating in the review programs. In addition, a limited number of scholarships to pay part of the exam registration fee are available to applicants that are registered as University of Nebraska students. To increase your comprehension of the material needed to pass either the Level I or Level II exams, we encourage you to contact us and enroll in the CFA review program. For more information regarding the CFA Level I exam you may contact, David A. Volkman, Ph.D., CFA at 554-2642 or [email protected].
