STUDENT SPOTLIGHT! Name : Mohamed Alkatheeri Hometown: The United Arab Emirates, the city of Abu dhabi

Where are you from? The United Arab Emirates, the city of Abu dhabi

How long have you been here in Tucson? I have been here for 3 months, but I lived in Boston for 1 year.

What are some cool things you did in Boston?

I went to 6 flags, also a huge aquarium. And I also visited Harvard; it is a very beautiful campus.

What are some great places to visit in your hometown?

Ferrari World, it is the biggest indoor theme park in the world, there are many roller coasters and things. Also, there are great waterparks, the largest mall, and also Burj Kalifa the tallest building in the world. So there are a lot of tourists there because there are many cool things to do in UAE.

What is one of your hobbies?

I like to practice Karate. There are two types of karate, fighting and performance. I like to do the fighting.

So do you actually fight people?

Yes, I participated in many competitions. I did a competition in Harvard and won gold and silver. I have also done competitions in my home country and the gulf area and won many awards.

What is something you would like to do in your lifetime? I would love to be a writer.

What kind of things do you want to write?

I like to read self-help books and would like to write things like that one day, I don’t know when but sometime in my life.

What is your favorite movie?

Fast and Furious. They filmed the most recent movie Fast and Furious 7 in my home town, so everybody will go watch it. It is very popular in UAE.

What are your plans for the future?

I am finished at CESL, and I got accepted into the University of Arizona to start in January. I will be studying Engineering at the UofA because I like math. So I will return home for a while next week and then come back.

Any last words to the rest of the CESL students before you leave? Keep Working Hard!

Ask CESL

Question: What is Thanksgiving?

Answer: As you know, Thanksgiving is coming up soon - but what exactly is Thanksgiving?

!Thanksgiving is an American holiday that celebrates the first meal between the Native Americans and the recent immigrants from England. The English were starving and did not have enough food to feed themselves, but they were saved by the kindness of the Native Americans who gave them food. !Today, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving by having a big dinner with their family and friends and expressing their gratitude (thanks) for the good things in their lives. Thanksgiving is celebrated every year on the 4th Thursday of November. !Traditional Thanksgiving foods include: turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberries, bread rolls, green bean casserole and pies for desert. !So what can you do here in Tucson to celebrate Thanksgiving? !On Monday 11/24 (a few days before Thanksgiving) there is a Thanksgiving dinner starting at 4 pm at the Park Student Union. It includes a Turkey dinner, Turkey & Stuffing with choice of 2 sides, dinner roll, drink, slice of pie with whipped topping, cranberry sauce for $9.25 plus tax.  It is first come, first serve so show up early to make sure you get food! !We have a 4 day weekend (11/27-11/30), so enjoy your vacation!
