Overview - Vision Technician
Vision Technician is an allied healthcare professional who possess comprehensive knowledge and experience in vision
management, and to assist ophthalmologist and optometrist in prevention of blindness. A vision technician supports
people affected by various refractive errors to understand and manage the condition.
A Vision Technician performs administrative and certain clinical duties. Administrative duties include scheduling
appointments and maintaining medical records. Clinical duties include taking and recording vital signs and medical
histories, preparing patients for examination, and dispensing ophthalmic prescription The focus of developing the .
curriculum is on:
· Nurturing the right professional attitude and values.
· Training on communication skills, role responsibilities and identifying work hazards.
· Administrative duties related to the role.
· Training of Clinical skills.
This course is being implemented by PSS Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE), Bhopal in collaboration with
Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital (SSEH). Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital, Bairagarh is one of the renowned Charitable Trust Hospital in
Central Indian awarded with India's Highest Eye Care Award for 2018 (Dharamsey Nansey Oman Award for outstanding
High Quality, High Volume Comprehensive Eye Care Delivery), and it is the First NABH Accredited Multispecialty Eye
Hospital in Madhya Pradesh equipped with Ultra modern facilities. Hospital provides the treatment of all eye specialties
under one roof i.e. Cornea, Glaucoma, Retina, Pediatric, Squint, Occuloplasty, Low Vision, Contact Lens, Cataract and
Vision Therapy, Artificial Eye.

Certified Vision Technician can work in various domains of healthcare like eye hospitals, ophthalmic private clinics, optical
retail shops lens manufacturing companies and various NGO’s as certified Vision Technician.
Who is it for?
The course on Vision Technician is designed for students who have completed their Class 12 and wish to become a clinical
assistant to an eye specialist at leading hospitals and clinics.
How does it help?
The Vision Technician course aims in training individuals with the required knowledge and skills to assist an eye specialist
during tests and diagnostics as well as making and restoring spectacles. The duration of the course is 06 months, which
includes a mandatory 02 months on-the-job training at a reputed hospital to get the first-hand experience.
Work Description
· Assist Optometrist during eye examinations, diagnostics and corrective procedures.
· Help and prepare patients for the vision test
· Maintain records of patients
· Prepare examination rooms an cleaning and arranging of equipment
· Explain patients about the usage and steps to caring of glasses and contact lenses
· Schedule appointments and taking care of data
Admission Requirements
Candidates desirous of seeking admission into the Certificate Course Programme are required to fill in the prescribed
application form which can be downloaded from the PSS Central Institute of Vocational Education website
(www.psscive.ac.in ) and submitted along with the DD for Rs. 500/- as application fees. The DD should be taken from a
Nationalized bank paid in favour of Joint Director, PSSCIVE, Shyamla Hills, Bhopal. The application along with DD may
also be submitted by postal mail to the Programme Coordinator, PSS Central Institute of Vocational Education
(PSSCIVE), Shyamla Hills, Bhopal-462013 .
The applications received from the applicants will be scrutinized by a selection committee for candidates.
Essential Qualification: Candidates seeking admission to the Certificate course in Vision Technician (CVT) programme
should have passed 10+2 (Science) with physics, chemistry, biology and atleast 50% marks.
Number of Seats: Total : 25 Seats
Age: To be between 18 - 35 yrs.
Admission Procedure: Screening of applications will be done according to eligibility and other criteria decided by the
screening committee. List of selected candidates will be uploaded on the Institute's website. Selected candidates would
be required to get their certificates/documents verified against the original documents at the time of admission.
Course Duration - 06 Months
There will be two phases in the programme (Exclusive of the period of admission) for classroom transaction, practicum,
field study/internship and conduct of examination. Aminimum of thirty hours in a week (Five days), during which faculty
and students concerned shall be available for the requirements of the programme, including interaction and mentoring.
Course Fee
Candidates from India: Rs. 10,000 (Rupees Ten Thousand only) exclusive of boarding and lodging.Boarding and lodging facility will be arranged on first come first served basis. Payment is to be done in advance.
Hostel Fee: Rs. 1,200 per month.
Mess Fee: Rs. 5,000 per month.
Medium of Instruction
The medium of instruction is English.
Assessment and Evaluation
The assessment and evaluation scheme of the trainees will comprise of theory examination & comprehensive-skill
evaluation. Trainees will be required to maintain logbook/portfolio of the activities that they have performed during
the course.
Examination
Examination will be conducted by the PSS Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE), Bhopal.A. The written examination in theory papers of the programme shall be held in October and January in each trimester.B. In order to be successful the examinee must obtain atleast 50% of marks in each theory paper, project and internship
and trimester-end examination.C. Successful candidates shall be placed in one of the Grades-A, B, or C in the examination taken together in accordance
with the following scale:µ Those obtaining 50% or more but less than 60% will be placed in “C” Gradeµ Those obtaining 60% or more but less than 75% will be placed in “B” Gradeµ Those obtaining above 75% will be placed in “A” Grade.
Attendance
The minimum attendance of students shall be 75% for Classroom Courses and Practicum and 90% for Field attachment.
Certification
The certificate will be awarded by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi.

About the Institute
The Pandit Sunderlal Sharma Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE) is an apex research and development
organization in the field of vocational education. It is a constituent unit of the National Council of Educational Research
and Training (NCERT), established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The
PSSCIVE is a Centre in India. The Institute advises and assists the central and state governments on UNEVOC-Network
the various aspects of planning and implementation of vocational education and training programmes. It develops
guidelines, national curricula, courseware, training modules and e-learning materials for a wide spectrum of target
groups, including children with special needs. The PSSCIVE collaborates with national and international organizations,
institutions, and agencies for organizingnational and international seminars, conferences, and workshops. The Institute
conducts capacity building programmes for the key functionaries and teacher development programmes in vocational
education.
Department of Health and Paramedical Sciences
The Department of Health & Para Medical Sciences of the Institute works as a resource centre for implementation of
Health & Para Medical Sciences Vocational Education Programmes in the Country. The department evolved from the
erstwhile Division of Health & Education which was an integral part of the Institute since its establishment at Bhopal in
1993. Health Department is engaged in multifarious activities under the categories of Research, Development, Training,
Evaluation, Consultancy and Extension. The Department of Health and Paramedical Sciences is contributing to the
development of high quality middle level skilled manpower in health sector. The department strives for innovation and
continuous improvement in the quality and relevance of the training programs and activities for the development of
curricula and teaching-learning materials in healthcare sector.
Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital
Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital is one of the biggest Charitable Trust Hospital in Central India awarded with India's Highest Eye
Care Award for 2018 (Dharamsey Nansey Oman Award for Outstanding High Quality, High Volume Comprehensive Eye
Care Service Delivery), and it is the First NABH Accredited Multispeciality Eye Hospital in Madhya Pradesh equipped with
ultra modern facilities providing excellent services in the field of Eye & Medical care since 1987. Many stalwarts from
Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai, LVPEI, Hyderabad, HV Desai Hospital, Pune, Sadguru Eye Hospital, Chitrakoot, Tejas Eye
Hospital, Mandvi etc. and INGOs like Sightsavers, CBM, ORBIS, Mission for vision, Operation Eyesight Universal etc. came
closer to SSEH with the enlightenment of new treatment methods and adopting various quality measures, this hospital
became more result oriented. Now SSEH is first and only one multi-specialty eye hospital which has been accredited by
the NABH in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The hospital started regular training sessions of the staff and enhance the
security measures on each level as well as on the front of eye care system and staff.
