I thank all the members who have agreed and will agree
to be part of the Optimist team for the coming year. I am
always amazed at the willingness of our optimists to
support all our adventures in the club. As I see it, this is
the entire reason for our success!
I will continue the meeting schedules of our former
president, Rick Rennaker, and thank him for all his
guidance and support. Our current programs will con-
tinue and I am hoping to enrich them with more District
communication and new ideas coming from you
throughout the year.
This year will start off with our “Night at the Races”
program on October 16th chaired by me and James
Kang, and our fabulous“40th Anniversary” at the Rio
Hondo Country Club on October 30th , chaired by Jack
Evans. In November we will have the “Wine Tasting”
fundraiser, chaired by Diana Needham and the kick off
for the “Essay“ contest, chaired by James Kang and Bob
Cameron. December will be a busy month with the
“Needy Families” program, the Christmas party on the
16th at the Cerritos Library, chaired by Sophia Tse and
Ellen Latino, and the “Lights on the Boats” parade
hosted by yours truly.
I call on our long time members to closely mentor
newer members of our club so that they can decide
which parts of Optimist International they want to ex-
perience. I believe that the sooner we can assist our new
members to be a part of the fabric of our club and Opti-
mist International, the more our club will fulfill their
expectations.
I am a believer in team effort, building on the past, re-
thinking old ideas and looking at all new possibilities. I
encourage you to send any new/old program ideas you
may have to me at [email protected] .
