Don & Jean Berger Optimist Award Description: This award honors an individual or couple of any age, who reside in Central Minnesota and have demonstrated the Optimist Creed (see attached) through their work and dedication to the community. Their service to youth, deeds, and unwavering commitment are visible in the lives that have been enriched and the tenets of the Creed have been shared through action and example. Nomination Process: Nominations will be accepted in a narrative of not more than two type-written, double-spaced pages using a minimum of 12-point font. Along with this narrative and not included in the two-page narrative limit, is a cover page for inclusion in the completed nomination. Please see attached Cover Page. Narrative: Understanding that the mission of the Optimist Club is service to youth, your nomination should address key points of the creed that the nominee has demonstrated and the results of his/her efforts. Selection: Nominations will be reviewed by a committee of Optimist Members who will review each nomination in its entirety and rate each on the following criteria: Has this person “lived the Optimist Creed” in their daily life? How has the nominee impacted and enriched lives in central Minnesota? How has the nominee impacted the lives of youth? What challenges (if any) has this person overcome to achieve success? Are there actions or results that specifically demonstrate tenets of the Creed? Award: Recipient(s) will receive an award representing the Optimist Creed, one year of Membership in the Optimist Club (if not currently a Member), and a contribution of $500.00 will be made in the person’s name(s) to a non-profit of their choosing. This contribution consists of $250.00 from the Optimist Club and $250.00 from the family of Don and Jean Berger. Note that the selected non-profit must meet the criteria for Optimist Club contributions. Completed nominations must be received on or before August 31 st of this year.
