Residents Golf Club America , popu-larly known as RGCA, is the nation’s leading golf club comprised exclu-

sively of residents from communities of the top home builders and property manage-ment companies who are licensed by RGCA to offer golf memberships as a sales or rental incentive.

Oakwood Management Company, the largest manager of residential properties in Columbus, Ohio has been a licensed RGCA Sponsor for over six years and knows fi rst-hand the power of this rental incentive and its impact on occupancy.

As Oakwood Marketing Director, Chris-tine Canavan, is quick to point out “our decision to become an RGCA Sponsor and offer golf memberships as a rental incentive was frankly very easy. Oakwood recognized that lifestyle was becoming a major focus of today’s renter and that a program, such as RGCA, would be extremely attractive to renters seeking the greatest lifestyle value in a highly competitive rental market.”

Importance of the RGCA program on lifestyle rental decisions is best illustrated by Jeff Klein, an executive with Roxane Laboratories and resident of Asherton of Dublin Apartments. “When I transferred to

Columbus, the opportunity to play free golf as an Oakwood resident is why we rented at Asherton, an outstanding professionally managed community.”

As Oakwood indicates in its advertis-ing, the RGCA membership is totally free to a resident signing a lease at one of their participating communities. As a member of RGCA, the resident and their guests play golf with golf cart totally free at all RGCA participating golf courses, with no hidden extras. As the ad indicates, Sign a Lease and Tee-it-Up!

RGCA contracts with the top public and private golf courses in each major mar-ket area and then pays the golf course for each round of golf played by RGCA mem-bers, which includes full green fees and golf cart rental. Participating golf courses, such as Cumberland Trail, are quick to point out, “The RGCA program continues throughout the seven years of our participation to be a boon to golf like no other program we have participated in and we particularly appreci-ate the exceptional quality of players the RGCA program brings to our course”.

The best golf facilities aren’t just the ones with the toughest golf courses or largest practice areas.

They aren’t always the one with the most impressive clubhouses or acclaimed meeting spaces. No, the best golf facili-ties are the ones that combine consistent quality, fair challenge, and most of all, a staff that is committed to the type of customer service that makes every golfer feel like a member every time they visit.

It’s that combination -- that sig-nifi cant commitment -- that makes the golf experience at Pine Hill Golf Club a Central Ohio favorite for avid golf-ers. Perfectly located midway between Columbus and Lancaster, Pine Hills is a true locals’ course – a place where the staff remembers your name and respects your passion for the game. Whether your standard is course conditioning, friendly

service or a fair golf challenge, Pine Hill is the facility that delivers it all.

Indeed, at Pine Hill, the philosophy is the people make the experience, and given their track record, that is a high standard that shouldn’t be argued with. Whether just for a couple buddies or a large outing or group, the experience at Pine Hill is always the same. Players are treated as if a member for a day, which means no request goes unfulfi lled.

Given that, the experience on the golf course is always at the core of any outing and Pine Hill delivers in that re-gard. The Jack Kidwell-designed course offers a stern yet fair challenge that will prove enjoyable for players of any and all skill levels. Well known for its lavish landscaping and great attention to detail, Pine Hill is also an enjoyable test of golf.

Kidwell crafted a layout that takes

advantage of the natural terrain but also added sloping and character to the course that combines into both scenery and challenge. Stretching to just less than 6,700 yards from the back tees and a more generous 6,200 from the middle, Pine Hill can be a test for players of any skill level.

From the very start of the round, Pine Hill will challenge even the best golfer. The outward nine is a challenge beginning with the 512-yard par-5 opening hole and culminating with the shotmaker-delight 477-yard par-5 ninth hole. In between there is an engaging collec-tion of par 4s and par 3s that challenge even the best of golfers, highlighted by the 450-yard par-4 eighth hole, the toughest at Pine Hill.

Pine Hill’s inward nine is the perfect culmination to a great day of golf and leisure. Like the front side, the back is book-ended by pair of risk-reward par-5s that provide two of the best scoring opportunities on the way in. Also like the front, the result of the round will be determined in the middle of the back nine. The 375-yard par-4 12th and the 610-yard par-5 17th, one of three par 5s on the back nine, are the stiffest challenges at Pine Hill.

A popular venue for both charity and corporate outings Pine Hill offers a full program for any type of golf event. The course also plays host to both weekday and weekend

golf leagues, which are forming during the spring.

Anew golf club outside of golf-crazed Columbus is doing its part to introduce new players to the

game, as well as allow avid golfers to get in a round without having to schedule a vacation day. Little Bear Golf Village is a 10-hole track located in Lewis Center that’s affordable, family-friendly, and most important of all, fun for everyone regardless of ability.

“In Central Ohio we’re blessed with so many really outstanding private clubs,” said Bill McCorkle, the brains behind Little Bear. “We are a public facil-ity, and welcome everybody. We just ask

them to hit the ball and keep moving.”Designed by Dr. Michael Hurd-

zan, the same architect responsible for Wisconsin’s Erin Hills and Ohio’s Cooks Creek and The Golf Club of Dublin, Little Bear sits on 22 acres that used to be a fl at soybean fi eld, but now has roll-ing features, three large lakes, more than 1,000 trees, a beautiful waterfall and 22 sand traps.

The greens at Little Bear are made of synthetic grass, but golfers will see actual tiny blades on the putting surfaces that always roll smooth and quick; they’re about 12 on the Stimpmeter.

“Evey course would love to have greens that look like ours,” McCorkle quipped.

Little Bear has a bonus hole de-signed as a replica to the famous island green No. 17 at TPC Sawgrass. Players can take aim at this special hole for free with a paid 10-hole round or pony up $1 per shot. To no surprise, the island green has become a popular spot for local fundraisers, outings and charity events.

Little Bear’s greens have the same number of blades per square inch as real greens, are disease proof and putt true

and fast. They hold high shots real well.Synthetic greens achieve two objec-

tives; they’re environmentally friendly, requiring no mowing or chemical treat-ment, and they keep maintenance costs down, which in turn keeps greens fees very affordable. With a breeze from the west, like the British Open, the greens are as fast as Augusta and the rough is tall fescue like the US Open; it’s like playing three Majors for $10 during the week.

For more information about the course, please visit www.littlebearvillage.com.

In this age of endless golf information, there are countless ways and means to learn to play the game of golf. You can follow the latest instruction article or video, take advice from the Internet or learn the old fashion way by taking advice from friends, based on the ideas they have seen, heard or read. Regardless, any or all of these approaches lead to continuous trial and error, usu-ally leaving the player more confused and discouraged than improved. Eventually, the inevitable frustration drives a player to con-sider professional help, either in the form of a single lesson, or for many, the total emersion of attending a golf school or academy. For 40 years, the United States Golf Academy has been the choice of thousands of golfers looking for the satisfaction that comes from an improved golf game and the understanding of how the improvement was achieved. This is a successful operation achieved from longevity and positive “word of mouth” recommendations from our students, rather than slick marketing and false prom-ises. The Academy’s promise is simple – a better golf game for each of our students!

The United States Golf Academy can make this promise for two reasons. First, our resident staff of PGA professionals is recognized throughout the golf industry for their knowledge and expertise is the areas of instruction and club fi tting. Not only are they the people that the golfi ng public seeks out for advice, but they are also the experts sought by their peers in the golf industry. Second, you must have the technology to provide accurate data and feedback to maximize the student’s efforts. The United States Golf Academy uses the industry’s standards in golf swing, ball fl ight and put-ting analysis. The Trackman launch monitor and PuttLab diagnostic technologies are the most accurate and informative technolo-gies available and they are used every day in the pursuit of a better golf game for our students. This combination of accurate data and human expertise allows our profes-sionals to offer a clear understanding to our guests of what can be done and the easiest way to accomplish it. Among the pantheon of golf courses emblazoned with the name of legendary architect Pete Dye, The

Fort is not the fl ashiest. It’s not the most recognizable. It’s not the newest. It is the most historically signifi cant, and a damn fi ne golf experience at that.

Dye, along with associate Tim Liddy, re-tooled The Fort in 1998 to create the wonderfully wooded layout you’ll fi nd tucked away in the shadows of downtown Indy. Designer and canvas just so happen to share a similar background.

While Mr. Dye never saw combat time during his time enlisted in the Unit-ed States Army, he was stationed at both Fort Benning (Georgia) and Fort Bragg (North Carolina). At Fort Bragg he served dutifully as greenskeeper of the base golf course, and during trips to nearby

Pinehurst, developed a relationship with Donald Ross. His love for “digging in the dirt” was born and the rest is history.

Established seven years after Fort Benjamin Harrison was offi cially decom-missioned, Dye stepped in to craft a course in the middle of a 1,700-acre state park. Opened in 1906, Fort Ben was an active military base from World War I until Operation: Desert Storm. The base housed prisoners of war during the World War II.

Currently ranked as the No. 3 place

you can play in the entire state of Indiana by Golf.com, The Fort Golf Course is a beautiful and challenging design known for its tree-lined fairways, rolling hills and undulating greens, which have Dye written all over them. The course has also received a 4.5-Star rating from Golf Digest and was rated No. 1 in Indiana by Golfweek.

“There simply is not a better piece of property in Central Indiana upon which to build a championship golf course,” said Head Golf Professional Jon Chapple. “The Fort’s unpredictable topography and Pete Dye’s visionary architecture have joined to create experience that is unparalleled in the Hoosier State. It is not surprising that time after time the golf course is a regular feature in annual golf course rankings.”

The Fort showcases the best of what Indiana golf has to offer. At 7,148 yards playing to a par 72 over nearly 240 acres, this layout meanders through trees, val-leys and wetlands in order to create an experience that allows the golfer to enjoy nature and the game all at once.

It’s an impossible chore to select just one signature hole at The Fort. Nos. 4, 5, 6, 11 and 18 are all worthy of that distinction. Each of these Dye creations shares a few common traits: thick woodlands and elevation changes, which demands a precise tee shot. Each hole then concludes on quick greens requiring a skillful sense of fi nesse.

The course has also become a popu-lar “Stay and Play” because of the variety of lodging options available.

Golf packages at The Fort include 18 holes of golf with cart, overnight lodging, unlimited range balls, complimentary bag storage and souvenir bag tag and ball. The facility has become a trusted choice for cor-porate and charity outings. Here are some facilities available for lodging and events:

The Main Lodge – A 27-room facility lo-cated just 300 yards from the golf courseThe Harrison House – A more intimate facility with suites and very comfortable overnight accommodations a mere 100 yards from the golf courseOffi cers Homes – Fully furnished 3-bed-room homes that once housed visiting dignitaries and military generalsGarrison Conference Center – The ideal space for your wedding or business con-ference, the Garrison has a dining room that offers daily lunch, weekend dinner buffets and delicious Sunday brunches.

In addition to the conference center, overnight lodging accommodations and championship 18-hole golf course, The Fort has outstanding practice grounds, private and group instruction and men’s and women’s locker rooms.
