CHBC-1314-20 INDIVISA MANENT READING— MATTHEW 4:1-11 At that time Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. He fasted for forty days and forty nights and afterwards he was hungry. The tempter said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread.” He said in reply, “It is written: One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.” REFLECTION The Spirit is a creative spirit and curiously, in today’s reading, it drives Jesus to a place that is barren and lifeless. Lent begins with this invitation to strip away what is not necessary in our lives so that we can confront and embrace again the beauty and creative power of what lies inside us. The season comes with a reminder for us to listen to God’s voice as Jesus has done– to listen as God speaks to us not only in Scripture– but more wonderfully, how God speaks to us in hearts. In this encounter, it is likely that we will need to befriend and tame and confront as well the parts of our lives that are dark. As ministers and educators, this is an essential discipline we will need to exercise. De La Salle often reminds us to keep vigilance over ourselves . In a word, to become attentive to our own inner state, our feelings and motivations and not to allow these to cloud our vision of acting only in view of God. May the time of Lent be a time for us to listen to God. May this listening lead us to a deeper knowledge and acceptance of ourselves so that we can more faithfully and creatively proclaim God’s goodness in our ministry. RESPONSE Forgiving God, Look not upon our sins but upon our desire to serve you and one another. Dispel our darkness, and help us to embrace our failings in loving union with your goodness. Heal us this day, and may we be a source of strength and courage for others. Grant this through the intercession of all those who fill up what is wanting in the sufferings of Christ. AMEN. The tempter said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread.” He said in reply, “It is written: One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.”

REFLECTIONThe Spirit is a creative spirit and curiously, in today’s reading, it drives Jesus to a place that is barren and lifeless.

In this encounter, it is likely that we will need to befriend and tame and confront as well the parts of

our lives that are dark.

RESPONSEForgiving God, Look not upon our sins but upon our desire to serve you and one another. Dispel our darkness, and help us to embrace our failings in loving union with your goodness. Heal us this day, and may we be a source of strength and courage for others. Grant this through the intercession of all those who fill up what is wanting in the sufferings of Christ. AMEN.

DLSU-D JOINS INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITIES SUSTAINABLE INITIATIVES WEBSITE

De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) is the first academic institution in the Philippines to join the International Association of Universities - Higher Education for Sustainable Development (IAU-HESD) portal, after launching its comprehensive sustainability site

outlining the DLSU-D’s efforts to equitably and ecologically manage resources and promote green initiatives in and out of campus.

The IAU-HESD was a program that started in 1993 through the IAU Declaration on Sustainable Development. For the past 20 years, the Association has initiated and joined various events to promote and facilitate the IAU’s drive for sustainability.

DLSU-D, for its part, began its campaign to promote environment conscious initiatives over a decade ago. Some of the activities include the establishment of an Environmental Resource Management Center, Materials Recovery Facility, formulation of policies for solid waste management, tree planting, carbon neutral solutions – measures that gained honors for DLSU-D from various sectors and made it a benchmark for other organizations to follow.

By qualifying in the categories specified by the IAU which includes generation and dissemination of knowledge through interdisciplinary research and teaching, policy-making, capacity-building and technology transfer, and becoming an official partner, DLSU-D has solidified its commitment to take the lead in sustainability initiatives in the country on the academic front.

The sustainability website was launched last year by DLSU-D and was recognized by the IAU in December 2013. The site www.dlsud.edu.ph/sustain, is now part of the portal http://www.iau-hesd.net/.

LSU LIVE-IN PROGRAM

Almost all of the Lasallians I know are curious about how the De La Salle Brothers live their daily lives. I also had my share in this curiosity when I joined the La Salle University (LSU) Brothers’ Community Live-In Program last 26 February to 2 March 2014. Initially, I was very nervous to join the program. Living with prominent people in the University was very intimidating but as soon as the Live-In program started, I realized that the Brothers are fun to be with. They are simple people and living with them was a great opportunity. We joined the Brothers in their morning and evening prayers at 5:15AM and 6:45PM respectively. We also joined them for meals. Every meal with them was very entertaining. We would laugh at jokes and share our experiences. Of course, the favorite “tea time” would always be present after meals. We also had different activities every evening after supper. We had dyads, film viewing, and a session on prayer. On Saturday, we had our ABCD recollection at the LSU Farm in Gala, Ozamiz. I consider the recollection as one of the highlights of the whole program. Friendship between college and high school contacts and aspirants were strengthened. We also had time to reflect on our experiences as contacts and aspirants. We ended the program on Sunday at the St. Br. Miguel Academy (SBMA). Being with the kids from SBMA was great and we had a lot of fun teaching and playing with them. It was truly an event I will never forget. Being part of the Live-In program helped me see the Brothers from a different perspective, to see what it is truly like to be a Brother. I consider them as real brothers and friends and not merely as teachers and

PHILIPPINE AIR PASSENGERS BILL OF RIGHTSAs we move forward in our goal of sustainability, more and more collaborations between the La Salle schools are bound to occur. In an archipelago like the Philippines, this entails more air travel for our Brothers and partners.

And despite planning and researching trips, things still occasionally go wrong ––from lost luggage and weather delays––the unexpected can always happen. That is why it is important to know your rights as a passenger, knowing exactly what you can expect from your airline.

Below is an excerpt of DTI’s infographic of the bill of rights:

administrators. Now, I can definitely say, “It’s really cool to be a Brother!” — By John Laurence Sareñogon, 3rd Year, BS Nursing, La Salle Universtiy

FIRST E-WASTE AWARENESS DAY HELD AT DLSU-DThe Information and Communications Technology Center (ICTC) of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) in coordination with its Environmental Resources Management Center (ERMaC) held its first E-waste Awareness Day on 7 March 2014. The event featured an E-Waste seminar, environmental film showing, and capped by a Mangrove planting activity in Batangas.

The event is part of DLSU-D’s promotion of proper electronic waste management and disposal under the ICTC’s Project ICON (ICT Creates Opportunities for Nature). DLSU-D students, faculty, and staff donated their old, broken, and obsolete electronics to the ICON booth for proper disposal, which was handled by both ICTC and ERMaC. These disposed electronics were returned to the recycling plant and the proceeds went to support the annual ICTC’s tree-planting program in line with DLSP’s One Million Trees and Beyond Project.

VOCATION NOVENA16-25 MARCHLet us pray that more young people will be inspired to commit their lives to the Lasallian Mission.

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS

Father, we’re your people, the work of your hands. So precious are we in your sight that you sent

your Son, Jesus.

Jesus calls us to heal the broken-hearted, to dry the tears of those who mourn, to give hope to those who despair, and to rejoice in your steadfast love. We, the baptized, realize our call to serve. Help us to know how.

Call forth from among us priests, sisters, brothers and lay ministers. With our hearts you continue to love your people. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.
