This change is actually based on the way that we used to organize carpool when we were still in portables. We hope you notice that we thoughtfully and carefully consider even basic logistical procedures at CFI. Sometimes it takes a bit longer and sometimes it involves a bit of trail and error but we feel it’s important that everything we do is reflective of the way we live and learn at CFI. Celebrations, Connections, & Challenges

by Dr. Lyn Mueller* Changes in Afternoon Back Carpool

For the past several years, we have been blessed with a new building and have slowly increasedthe numbers of students who attend CFI. Each year, we have discovered changes that we needto make in our procedures. Most importantly, you should note that three considerations guideevery procedure that we develop or revise at CFI: safety; ease and convenience; and our inquiryphilosophy. This past week we’ve experimented with some changes to our K/1 afternoon carpool

that meets in the back of the school. Although we’re still in our “couple of weeks” trial period, so far everyone

seems happy with the change. For increased ease and safety, K and 1 classes sit in the second row of cementsquares located directly across from the portable. Siblings of K/1 students sit directly behind them in the thirdrow of squares. Safety patrol students are stationed in the first row so that they can locate students more eas-ily and can load up to three cars at a time. Teachers remain with their classes for supervision but are still acces-sible to parents. In keeping with the first of our Rights and Responsibilities, “work and play in a safe and organ-ized environment,” each person has a responsibility and works together towards maintaining safety. In generalcar drivers have three responsibilities:

1. Stop at the yellow crosswalk markings by the portable.2. Do not pull around to pass a car that may not have loaded yet.3. Pull down to park by The Storybook Garden if you wish to speak with a teacher or get out of your car.

This change is actually based on the way that we used to organize carpool when we were still in portables. We

hope you notice that we thoughtfully and carefully consider even basic logistical procedures at CFI. Sometimes ittakes a bit longer and sometimes it involves a bit of trail and error but we feel it’s important that everything wedo is reflective of the way we live and learn at CFI. As always, we appreciate your patience, your flexibility, and your input.

Mark Your Calendar for CFI’s Fall Yard SaleLast spring CFI’s family yard sale was such a success that many families have asked us to hold

a fall and a spring yard sale. It’s simple. You bring your stuff and CFI supplies the tables andchairs. Reserve a table for a $20 donation to the Annual Fund and then you keep the proceeds!

The Yard Sale will take place on Sat. Nov. 13th from 7:30 AM until 11:00 AM in the parkinglot in front of the school with set-up beginning at 6:30 AM. We’ll bring out the tables at 6:30and keep the parking lot open until 7:30 so that you can pull up your car or truck near your table. You’ll have plenty of space around your table for larger items that you

wish to place directly on the ground. While you are welcome to sellbaked goods, we request that you not sell beverages. The CFI AnnualFund table will sell bottled water, coffee, and hot chocolate.

At our Yard Sale last spring, we raised $440 for our Annual Fundand everyone who purchased a table came away with a profit! We alsohad a lot of fun.
