Request for Applications: Centennial Park Caretaker The District of Central Saanich is seeking an independent contractor(s) to fill the Centennial Park Resident Caretaker position. The Resident Caretaker responsibilities may be filled by an individual or a couple. The role is 365 days a year and encompasses an estimated 60-90 hours of work per month.

The Caretaker will be required to enter into a Park Caretaker-Rental Agreement and the rental and position are tied to one another; if the caretaker contract ends, the tenancy will also end.

The Caretaker shall reside in Centennial Park (1785 Hovey Road) in the residence provided and agree to pay the District rent for use of the residence and agree to the terms of a Standard Residential Tenancy Agreement. Renovated in 2000, the residence is a 1,176-sq ft, 2-bedroom bungalow with a fenced yard. Features include: gas fireplace, fridge, range, dishwasher, with washer/dryer hook-ups and double garage.

Market rent for this property is in the range of $2,000/month; utilities are not included. Compensation for caretaking services is $2,500/month; the caretaker is responsible for purchasing cleaning supplies (approximately $2,500 per year).

The District will also evaluate offers on the basis of the abilities of the applicant to perform the caretaker services, including:

providing a consistently high standard of service;

maintaining a professional and congenial relationship with park users;

communicating effectively (both verbal and written);

providing effective security of park property and amenities; and

working independently;

Experience in caretaking, security, policing, property management or other related vocation would be an asset. This position reports to the Manager of Community Services.

Applications will be confidential except to the extent the District is required by law to disclose information. Interested persons should submit relevant information about their ability to perform caretaking services.

CENTENNIAL PARK FIELDHOUSE

1809 Hovey Road JANITORIAL SERVICES SPECIFICATIONS

Duties

DAILY

Presence and caretaking, Monday - Sunday (7 days per week), 365 days per year, as identified by

heavy black outline on the attached building plan 220m2 (2,357 sqft).

Open (7 am) and close (at/before dusk) washrooms and three gates at the park. Conduct two walkabouts at the park in the morning and evening (in conjunction with washroom opening and gates, typically). Collect all trash and recycled paper, remove from building and deposit in designated bins provided. Care for Fieldhouse

Clean tables

Spot clean doors, door frames, walls and light switches

Clean door handles

Spot clean glass on entry doors

Sweep and damp mop (with a cleaning solution) all floors

Vacuum entry mats

Ensure all windows and doors are securely locked and the security system is armed upon completion of work each day

Leave on only designated security lights

Report any acts of vandalism, faulty equipment or burnt out light bulbs/tubes to the Facility Manager, as soon as possible.

Maintain a clean and well-organized janitor's storeroom. Ensure wet mops are clean and hung to dry. No standing water is permitted.

Collect all trash and remove from the building.

Collect recycling (weekly or bi-weekly) and put out on curb for commercial pickup.

Custodial for washrooms

Re-stock supplies (ie/ 2-ply toilet paper, hand towels, hand soap, urinal deodorant blocks, feminine hygiene products, etc) with products acceptable to the Municipality and compatible with dispensers provided

Sweep and mop floors (using a germicidal solution)

Spot clean doors, door frames, walls, partitions, light switches, all dispensers and hand dryers Clean and disinfect all toilets and urinals

Clean sinks, back splashes, counters and door handles Clean and polish metal fixtures and

mirrors

Dust all flat surfaces

Wash down all shower walls and floors with a germicidal solution WEEKLY

Dust and/or wipe clean (as required), all window tracks, ledges, sills and other flat surfaces Wet mop all vinyl and tile floors, wax as necessary

Perform high and low dusting (baseboards, chair and table legs, window and door frames, ceilings, etc)

Wash all door frames

Wash partitions in restrooms Sanitation of telephone handset MONTHLY

Fill floor drains in restrooms, shower/changerooms and janitor's closet with water Wipe clean all chairs

SEASONALLY

Machine scrub ceramic tile floors every three (3) months Machine scrub and refinish vinyl floors every three (3) months

Clean all windows inside and out, during daylight hours, every four (3) months BIANNUALLY Fieldhouse:

Hand clean cove base every six (6) months

Steam clean entry mats once every six (6) months; spot clean mats as required (coffee spills, etc.)

Clean light lenses every six (6) months

Clean all air duct grills every six (6) months PROVISION OF CUSTODIAL EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES The Caretaker shall be responsible for providing ALL necessary tools, equipment, materials,

supplies and labour necessary to complete the work described above in a careful, workmanlike

manner. This includes all cleaning products, hand soap, toilet paper, hand towels and

"scensibles" feminine hygiene disposal bags. Note: Dyson hand-dryers are provided within both

washrooms. Paper hand towel dispensers (3) are provided in the shower/changerooms and

storeroom only. Supplies cost an estimated $2,500/year and must be approved products

through ACME; approved materials list provided upon contract award.

MISCELLANEOUS:

a) No duplicate keys will be issued to the Caretaker. If lost, keys must be reported to the

District immediately.

b) Cleaning will be scheduled so as to avoid disruption to scheduled events and activities and

public use of the Fieldhouse.

c) The Caretaker will not permit unauthorized access of persons to the Fieldhouse or other park

buildings.

d) The caretaker will be asked to occasionally support park bookings. E.g. leaving fieldhouse gate

open later for winter evening bookings.
