CELEBRATING TEN YEARS OF PASTOR DWIGHT June 2015 marks ten years of Pastor Dwight Monical being BCUMC’s
pastor. We asked members of the congregation to share their special moments
and memories with Pastor Dwight…
+ My first glimpse of Pastor Dwight was at an Ad Council meeting in May
2005, a month before he would become our pastor. My first thought was,
“he’s taller than Pastor Joe (Hornick)! And I’ve got to get a picture!”
-Nancy Schnepp
+ Congratulations To Pastor Dwight - for - 10 years of service to our Church.
–Cecil Funkhouser
+ When Pastor Dwight started as our pastor, I made for him a "seating chart"
to help him learn some names of our church members. In it, I showed him
where this certain family usually sat, and that's where another family usually
sat, and said he couldn't really count on all of these people to be there all of the
time, but it could give him a rough idea of who some of the people are. I've
enjoyed playing and singing music with him. He played for my mom's
memorial service, and accompanied me when I sang at the Mother's Day
dinner last year. And in general, he allows me to play my cello with him on the
keyboard, most every Sunday, for a long time! He has a lot of skills and
knowledge of music, besides teaching us more and more about God, Jesus, and
the Bible! He's very approachable, and is a good listener. We've been blessed
by having him as our pastor, and we're thankful! -Coley Sharp

TEN YEARS OF PASTOR DWIGHT continued + I want to thank you Pastor Dwight for
serving our Church. I remember you hadn't
been to our Church but just a few days
when you were asked to be in a play “The
Rockslinger” in which you portrayed a giant
and did such a wonderful job The twins
were also in the play. I think of it all the
time. I also want to thank you for accepting
Cecil for being in my life and us not being
married But we have both prayed about it
and feel if God didn't approve he would
have not allowed it. You have been so very
kind to him and I appreciate that so much.
We both love the hugs you give us every
Sunday. I have truly enjoyed the sermons
when you choose a book of the Bible and
take us through it. I love you playing the
key board and all that you do for our church. I want to congratulate you for
being with us for 10 years. May God Bless you and grant you many more
years to help us to grow. I love you and thanks again for everything you do
for us at Buck Creek. Love & Blessings... -Linda Austin
+ We haven't been here for all of those years. My favorite memories of Dwight
are the small events when he has so much knowledge that I sit in awe. How
can he know about car engines then explain how the computer program can
be adapted to a different format so we can read or print it. (software) Then
he explains how the hardware of the computers will dictate the newest version
of software that can be used. Put him with John Metro and Bill Miller to do the
hands-on and he knows all about the power tools and talks intelligently about
construction. And there is the craft night when he came to paint birdhouses
with us. His musical abilities are one of
God's great talents that he shares with us.
He can put life into a slow moving hymn to
make it > pop <. Watching him teach the
music at VBS is a real treat because he
shows the boys that music isn't just for
girls as some may think. Dwight is so well-
rounded that I often sit in amazement. And
the sermon in the tent.... we watched it on
youtube because we were unable to attend
that Sunday. How creative ! (Even if it
were someone else's idea, you had to be able to execute the plan.)

+ Before I became a better Christian, I was married to
another man. Pastor Dwight performed that ceremony
at Columbian Park in 1992. It has been a pleasure for
me to hear his sermons each week, and I have lots of
good memories now of him and his family.
–Lydia Mueller
+ To mark Pastor Dwight's tenth year with us, I truly know that he 'has arrived
and is one of us at Buck Creek'! He is SO much more personable, caring and
loving and he brings his messages in language I can interpret and understand.
He seems to 'feel' our hurts, sadness, concerns and joys. He and Theresa are
busy people, but they make time for us and our needs. May God continue to
bless them in their work. Thank you, -Pat Miller
+ I know Butch and I haven't been to church in a long while but we think of
the Pastor and all the members quite often. We keep saying we are going to bet
started again - Pastor Dwight is amazing and we enjoy the times we have in
church and so hopefully we will get started back. The whole church family is
amazing. -Terri and Butch Knowles

+ Pastor Dwight and Teresa truly listened the evenings prior to Dad's services.
I am so grateful. I enjoyed, teared, smiled, chuckled, and laughed as he
captured important moments for my Dad during the eulogy. Thanks for that
memory. More so, thanks to Dad for those precious priceless years.... :)

+ I've always appreciated Pastor Dwight (& Teresa's) musical talent and
especially getting to accompany him with my bass guitar every summer. I've
always liked his real life messages often coming from his own life

FIVE MORE QUESTIONS! In June 2010 we asked Pastor Dwight and wife Teresa, Five Questions.
This month, celebrating his ten years at BCUMC, we are asking them Five
MORE Questions!
DWIGHT
1. What is a highlight of your ten years at BCUMC?
There have been so many it is hard to choose. I guess the outpouring of love
and encouragement throughout the years to Teresa, my family, and me. The
generosity of BCUMC has been overwhelming and I don’t think I can express
how much that has meant to all of us. It is certainly true that we have received
far more than we
have given.
2. What’s the
most impressive
dish you can
cook?
I think my best
(but maybe not
that impressive)
is my chili.
Simple recipe
but I think it
tastes really
good. Just beans
(kidney or a
mixture), diced
tomatoes, ground
beef, onion,
pasta (your
choice) and
spices. I used to put a little brown sugar in, but don’t always do that anymore.
3. If you had the chance to share one of your Sunday morning messages
with the entire world, what would the title and context be?
Title: “History or His Story!” The context would be the plan of God’s
salvation from Genesis to Revelation. It would offer the world the Christ of
God; Jesus as both Lord and Savior.
4. Are you a dog or a cat person?
I am an animal person. I like pretty much all living things (including insects,
but especially butterflies and moths). But because I was raised with cats I
would probably select them first. Growing up we had two cats with unique
names: Blackie and Frosty . Guess what colors they were? My dad would
10
always say that no matter what color he wore, you could always see cat hairs
on his clothes.
5. If you could be any person in the Bible for a week, who would you
choose and why?
I would pick Daniel. The main reasons are his faithfulness and perseverance.
He had a wonderful relationship with God and would never compromise no
matter what the consequences. He not only started well and ran the race well;
he also finished well.
TERESA
1. What is a highlight of your ten years at BCUMC?
It has been a privilege to know you individually and pray with you. We have
been encouraged and strengthened in our faith as you and we have shared
together how God is working in our lives. You have given us friendship and
gifts that have been a blessing to our family.
Last October was very special to us when we received a note or gift each
day or had a meal with you. We felt much appreciated! Your generosity and
praying for us mean very much.
2. What's the farthest you've ever traveled from home?
About 3 weeks after Dwight and I were married we traveled to Seoul, South
Korea, with a music ministry team with Campus Crusade for Christ, now
called Cru. We sang in concerts to assist the Korean Cru staff tell others about
Jesus. The Korean people we met were so gracious and we heard amazing
testimonies of how God had changed their lives. We have some funny stories
from our time there also.
3. Share with us about your favorite hobby/talent.
I enjoy singing and playing the piano and sharing music in our family. I have
been blessed with some wonderful music teachers from kindergarten through
college. Before Dwight and I were married I taught in a middle school and had
some fun choir students, some of whom came to our wedding. I’ve learned a
lot about choral music accompanying the choirs at Harrison, and doing some
vocal coaching has helped me get to know some of the students better.
4. What's the best gift you've ever received?
Truly the best gift I have received is the gift of salvation through God’s grace
and His forgiveness of my sins. He has graciously given me Dwight as my
husband and our children, Joseph, Mary, Thomas, Anna, and Jonathan. My
parents, Bill and Betty Simmermon, my brother, John, and my sister, Amy, are
gifts and part of God’s plan for my life too. My extended family are a blessing
also.
I have cherished gifts and loving notes from our children. One gift that
stands out is a wonderful surprise from Dwight. He planned for us to attend a
pastors and wives conference in Orlando, Florida, and had already arranged
for three families to care for our children here. He took me out for dinner and
gave me a scroll that explained everything. A complete surprise!
11
5. If you could be any person in the Bible for a week, who would you
choose and why?
There are many women of God in the Bible I want to be like. Mary, the
mother of Jesus, comes to my mind first. A woman who loved God so much
that He chose her to be the mother of His Son. But what sacrifices she made!
Esther was very courageous and fasted and prayed and asked her people to do
the same before she came to the king. Ruth devoted herself to Naomi and her
God, and worked hard to care for Naomi and herself. What a beautiful plan
God already had designed for her life!

MOTHER’S DAY MORNING
It was a special morning
on May 10. Many of the
mothers wore hats to
celebrate the day. The
sanctuary flowers celebrated
the birthday of a man born
on Mother’s Day. Pat Miller
gave a special Children’s
Sermon about parents. “Our
parents teach us, we grow up
and love and follow Jesus…
if we can do that, we will
have a wonderful life, as will
our mothers.”
Pastor Dwight gave time
for the congregation to share
memories of their mothers, which were very heartfelt. After worship, the
pastor’s wife Teresa Monical handed each lady a beautiful pink tulip as they
exited the church. A gesture of thanks to mothers and all women of the
church. (Below left: Audrey Chappell receives a tulip from Teresa.)

Love rhubarb? You’ll love Molly Clark Schnepp’s recipe!
MOLLY’S RHUBARB CRISP
4-6 cups rhubarb (8 for really tart)
1 cup sugar
3 Tablespoons flour
Topping:
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup oats
1 cup flour
¾ cup butter
Mix fruit mixture and put into buttered baking dish. For tarter crisp, use 6-8
cups of rhubarb but don’t increase the sugar.
Mix topping ingredients, and distribute evenly over rhubarb mixture. Bake at
375 degrees for 40 minutes. Enjoy!

STAMP COLLECTING Marion Mission
Storehouse requests “keep
the stamps coming
trimmed to 1/4 inch
around the stamp. It helps
with the shipping costs
when they are sold to a
collector.” The Ladies
Missionary Society has a
plastic shoebox on the
table in the front entryway
of the church for your
cancelled stamps.
CAN’T SLEEP? NO SHEEP? TRY THIS… Can’t get to sleep, or you wake up early and can’t get back to sleep? After
you’ve said some prayers, why not also thank God for some things in your
life? Here’s an easy way to do that: use the
alphabet! Starting with A, tell God you’re thankful
for something in the world that He made that starts
with “A”. Dear God, I am thankful for the apples
You made. B: I am thankful for the bees that buzz
and pollinate the crops. C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J… keep
going, giving thanks in alphabetical order. K: thank
You God for my two heathy kidneys. L: Thank You
for the love you shower on us….
If you really want to challenge yourself, go backwards, starting with Z!
Thank You God for >yawn< Zzzzzzzzz…
QUOTES December 14, 2014
+ “Don’t let us come to You and take prayer for granted. It is available at all
times.” –Pastor Dwight (message)
+ “We are to be answers to prayer---guide us and direct us.” –Pastor Dwight
(prayer)
+ “Pray for the Christmas program. Pray for the children---they are a blessing
to us. Let them speak the words You have given them clearly.” –Pastor
Dwight (prayer)

DWIGHT WRITES… After reading through and studying the Book of
Acts, I have realized that the book is really
incomplete. Not incomplete in the sense that there
is something missing which God intended that was
left out, but not finished because of the challenge it
leaves with us. At the end of the book I believe
that we are left with the question, “What now?”
What are we to do because of what we have read
about the early church? If we simply put down the
Bible and say that it was a good read and do
nothing in response, we have missed out on one of the major purposes of it
having been written.
One word which should always be front and center whenever we read the
Bible, and this is especially true with Acts is “Transformation.” If we are not
being changed because of what we have read, we have not read the Bible
effectively.
Romans 12:1,2 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of
God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to
God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of
this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be
able to test and approve what God's will is —his good, pleasing and perfect
will.”
In the next month, we will be taking another side-trip as we work our way
through the book of Acts and this time we will be looking at spiritual
disciplines; those things which we do that bring us closer to God and
transform us to be more like Jesus.
This 4 week series will be entitled “Next Steps” and will include the
messages, “Training vs. Trying (Why do I need spiritual disciplines to grow in
my faith?)”, “Overcoming Spiritual A.D.D. (How do I communicate with
God?)”, “Just Try It (What else can I do to grow spiritually?)”, and “After the
Honeymoon Phase (How do I keep my walk with God fresh?)”.
Here are a few Scripture passages you can read to prepare for this series.
Hebrews 5:11-6:1; Romans 12; Mark 1:29-39; Revelation 2:1-5.
Please pray for me as I prepare for this series and for our church to draw
closer to Jesus, all to the glory of God.
-Pastor Dwight
